Also tried to add to my server just a bit ago and it was causing it to spike in RAM usage and crash due to needing more ram in spikes than beyond what i'm currently paying for via the provider. But in all fairness I also have closing in on 180 mods at the moment so might also be my fault. Unsure if something is going on with it, really interested in it tho! Might go into the config files and disable things until it works but just wanted to mention

I am encountering a little issue which according to some posts I have seen but couldn't get my hands on again was related to the sheer amount of new items your mod is adding to the game. I basically get some RAM use spikes resulting in lags I did not experience before. If I remember well, one of the posts stated there was a mod complementary to yours that would fix that issue by removing the content and replacing in some other way that wouldn't cause any RAM use spikes.
Would you happen to know which one, please? I can remember for the life of me what was the name of the said mod or which post on Reddit mentioned it.
Why does my config file (VintagestoryData\ModConfig\VanillaVariants.json) keep reverting back to its default settings every time I open my server back up? I've edited it about 3 times now and it just keeps reverting back to default no matter what I do.

I knew it wasn't as easy at it can look, but dam didn't expected this to be that long and hard :o Mb... and don't worry lol you made a FANTASTIC work because Vanilla Variant is MY favorite mod for Vintage Story, I hope one day all of this will be in Vanilla (but I am sure only few things will be, I can't imagine them adding this amount of Vanilla variants in the base game because they said it's ram consuming or something like that sadly :/)

I don't want to make whole new "Modded Variants" mod, because in https://mods.vintagestory.at/tabletopgames it was super easy to add wooden/stone variants from other mods (because I wrote a lot of code to support it very easily).
I can't use the same code here because of how it all works, I just can't. It is an absolute nightmare to add new variants as is, it takes a lot of work even for the most simple item, and this is just fior vanilla types.
If you consider Wildcraft Trees and Floral Zones compatibility, then it requires herculean work, which also takes literally weeks doing only this and nothing else.
With entirely new mod with the same goal but for modded variants, I would need to work on this mod 24/7 which would make me unhappy and eventually the mod would get abandoned in favor of much more exciting projects that are truly worth my time (like Tabletop Games).
If I don't do that and keep updating it rarely or anytime when there are critical bugs, then I can work on it as long as the game itself doesn't make it extremely hard to do so

Hi, I'm having a strange issue where some players on my server are not able to craft certain variants of items (such as a pine table being broken for them but not me, while oak works fine for both).
I've tried looking into the server's log file, but i don't see a single thing relating to recipepatcher or vanvar aside from the expected startup messages.
Do you have any idea why this may be?
It appears to be happening for (pine) shelves and (pine) buckets as well

Hi, I know you said you will never add variants for others mods, I understand this is a LOT of work... but can you create a new mod where you make only variants for others mods ? This one is "Vanilla Variants" so a second mod with only others mods variants would be cool, and you can take your time to add one mod by one mod... since I said it again, I know you said it's a lot of work you won't do (I still understand) it is possible for you do to it... ? I can even pay you if it's needed xD Because work deserve money ! :3

Calisto Floral Zones is not supported in Vanilla Variants, it would take a lot of work which I don't want to do

I know it's not optimal, but I got rid of the brake error messages by switching from "SkipVariants": ["oak"] to "AllowedVariants": ["redwood"]
You probably shouldn't change it yourself since it will make the mod require more maintenance, and the wildcraft section would be a nightmare if they added more multiblock tree types, but for anyone who wants to make the change personally, the file is:
ok i can confirm that 6.0.0 is working with all testures properly.. the break after "API Tweak: Now using recursive inheritFrom for blocks/items/entities that are made from wildcraft wood types"
apparently it looks like In the new chest.json, the base file (vanvar:blocktypes/wood/chest.json) inherits from itself ("inheritFrom": "vanvar:blocktypes/wood/chest"), creating a circular dependency.
I was able to fix Transmission, Pulverizer Frame, Clutch, Large Gear 3, Helve Hammer Base, Wooden Toggle, Wind Mill Rotor, Wooden Axle, Angled Gears by reverting to the version 5.04 of the config.
simply replace all files in VanillaVariants-v6.0.11\assets\wildcrafttree\compatibility\wildcrafttree\blocktypes\wood\mechanics with their older configs and works fine

Some wildcraft things are not working suddenly and not sure why I have tried various versions of Vanilla variants but no fix. Both chests and transmissions are broken. Fence gates are also not working but not sure if just a wildcraft issue. 3 mods only to test this version 1.20. Also when running axle in blocks with vanilla variants enabled it also breaks all the wildcraft recipes

Having an issue with metal variants for chutes, hoppers and plates. I can make for example lead plates and chute sections but the recipes for their products are missing/bugged (don't show in handbook) and don't allow me to craft placeable chutes or hoppers. I have recipe patcher installed, and stone/wood recipes have worked fine, its just been the metals causing issues so far.

second update , It is clear now that the issue happens when you try to remove any item touching an angled gear, in survival or in creative. The current issue is one of my players on my world has multple angled gears together, so now we can not remove them or the axles on either end. I get an error saying its related to vanilla variants . We tried bombs, lava, lighting them on fire.. they are industructible it seams.
also anytime I leave an area and then come back to the area my whole windmil is broken again and my sails are always gone. and entering an area I earlier repaired I get this

update, it was something to do with and angled gear, if i broke either axle touching it i crashed, then i broke the gear and was able to break the axle. Idk if any of this is useful but I figure reporting it just in case is better than not. Not sure what cased it or really what fixed it but it seams fixed for the time being.
having this issue, I added vanilla variants and im trying to remove the gerneric axles as they stopped working and I removed most of them but now I'm getting this crash when I try to remove the lst few I have left. I do have wear and tear on so i am wondering if something with that mod is interfereing so im going to report it there as well.

DanaCraluminum Black blocks and artifacts were ocurring with use of other mods too. It is an issue likely caused by outdated GPU drivers. I updated my NVIDIA ones and it helped.

Sorry - I misreported this. I tried using a vanilla (oak) barrel and it crashed as well so I investigated the cause and it seems like it was because a texture path in Lithocraft was wrong. I just manually fixed the mod myself and tested it and that fixed the issue.

i have encounterd a bug with this mod. I had the problem to get chicks for quite some time so i tested it with 5.03 and 5.04! it seems to block the starting of the incubation timer of hen boxes at the start. the hen sits on the henbox but no counter appears. after deleting the mod it works fine. I even could see in creative (and time speed up) that a timer on a box which has already started while the mod was deleted, was still counting down with the mod reactived. so it seems to be really blocking just the start of the countdown. I used the normal/oak hen boxes for the test.all in 1.19.8
In next update i will remove woodtyped trapdoors since they are now in 1.20

I was able to get it to stop crashing by deleting the BetterCrates_v1.7.1.zip\assets\bettercrates\config\recipepatches\bettercrates.json. It seems like that might be the cause? There's not really much code in the file, but I'm able to look at the Handbook entry for the Wooden Trunk without crashing now.
There is also some kind of crash bug that triggers whenever you look for a recipe involving "vanvar:chest-east*" as an ingredient. Not sure if it's some sort of mod conflict or what.

Hi, i´ve the issue with the henbox aswell and since i turned "ResolveHenboxImposter" to false it´s gone.
BUT i´ve no extrachests mod on my server. Dunno if there is some issue with another mod or the vanilla-variants henbox in general. Just wanted to share this info if someone else comes across the same issue or DanaCraluminum wants to look somewhat deeper into it.

Thank you! I'll let everyone know that their henboxes might very well turn into the regular type. It's still a better outcome than not having the ability to breed chickens.
As best I could figure out, there's some conflict between Extra Chests and Vanilla Variants and disabling that particular line was the only solution while keeping both of the mods in question enabled.

In the VanillaVariants.json, what does the line ResolveHenboxImposter refer to? Setting it to false seems to have solved a weird bug on our server, where hens were laying and brooding but the incubation time wasn't shown and chicks weren't hatching.

Wonderful mod. There is a major bug with the fruitpress, putting in dry mash allows you to duplicate said dry mash.
I used the copper redwood varient and put in dry cranberry mash once the process of juicing was complete and am able to put a dry mash in and take one out and have one more than I started with.

@DanaCraluminum There is maple firewood, pine firewood, birtch firewood, etc. But, if I try to make a firewood stack with different variants of wood it doesn't work. Can't have birch and maple in the same pile. That creates some inconvenience, besides firewood is just firewood. So, I just suggesting that firewood stay the default un varianted vanilla version for the sake of ease. 😀

junawood The mod was last updated before all these new models and textures appeared, this is why most of blocks look the same to vanilla or aged variants look like vanilla oak variants
I checked again, and the vanilla vertical racks, shelves, barrels, buckets, beds, troughs, display cases, sod roof parts don't really look like the normal oak.
Your oak version of the sod roofing looks really great, so thanks for that (and your mods in general) because the vanilla version is just weird, but the vanilla wooden path look pretty close to the normal oak while yours looks way more reddish, your aged versions of the troughs and buckets look extremely close to the vanilla ones, just without the slightly dirty bottom, the vertical racks have almost the same colour, just more texture, and something seems to be wrong with your display cases as they all look the same and like the vanilla one.
And I found quite a few more things that don't have the "Mod: Vanilla Variants" info, so people could confuse them for vanilla and you can't find them by searching for Vanilla Variants.

Using 3.3.0 and there seem to be no oak versions of maybe everything except for the wooden paths and sod roofing, and the mod troughs don't have the normal "Mod: Vanilla Variants" info.

Ladder of one wood type can't be continued with a ladder of another type, gives an error about there being no place to attach the ladder.
So, PetAI, and presumably other mods relying on containers with water that don't go out of their way to add each potential variant won't allow, say, buckets from this mod to be used for fluid ingredients to craft, in this instance, pet cookies. In the interest of saving other modders work, I might suggest a solution similar to that 'other block game' where you essentially append a variable to the vanilla items and this variable controls which wood type/skin is shown.
I'm assuming this isn't already the case due to the nature of the compatibility issue.
Also, the dev team could obviate you of doing this work by simply making it so a recipe ignored the type of container so long as the requisite quantity and type of fluid was available in the grid (made a thread in suggestions)

This isn't a big concern because I can just use oak, but while the recipe shows up suggesting it can be done, I can't make you varients buckets with rope when using this with the rope buckets mod. Any chance there is something I can change on my end to make them work or...nay? not a big issue, mind you. I just really like Ebony wood and want it for the buckets... =p

There's a bug with the sod roofing alternatives though. They still have the pre 1.19 insulation issue.

Odd. I tried renaming VintageStoryData to get a fresh and that fixed it - I don't know what that would've changed, since the only thing I can think of would be me tinkering with something in assets and that's in VintageStory, not VintageStoryData, but it's fixed now, so I'll chalk it up to computer space magic and move on, I guess.

This is completely not working for me, I can find no indication it's enabled (guidebook, creative inventory, attempt at crafting) beyond the mod list having the little square. I'm on 1.18.15 (latest stable version as of writing this) and tried with 3.2.2 and 3.2.1, the two most recent versions for 1.18.x. I checked my config file and it seems fine, I tried deleting it to go back to default, then toggling everything true, false, inverse of default... No dice. I checked my logs and it's full of a lot of "Patch file vanvar:patches/disabler/blocks_items/woodenrails.json, patch 0: Unmet IsValue condition (false!=True)" but otherwise I can't find anything out of the ordinary. I can post full logs if you need.

Texture related issue with the henbox:
There is a missing hay texture inside the base of the henbox that appears white. I delved into the files and looked into "henbox.json" located in the file path "assets > vanvar > blocktypes > wood" and found the issue within the following section of code:

Applied and tested in my own game, this above fix remedies the texture issue.
There is also an issue where the henbox's texture will revert to the base game oak texture when filled with eggs. I'm more familiar with Other Block Game's Json structure so I'm not sure what could potentially be incorrect and causing this.

Hi there,
Great mod. However, I believe the sod roof ridge blocks do not have rotation variants. When I place the oak sod roof ridge block I can only get it to point east to west.

I think Yanazake might also be referring to the system used with ruin clutter?

Didn't they make something like... I think it was with the hares/rabbits? There's only one instance in the data, but it has variations built in it, instead of hare 1, hare 2, hare 3 for every fur pattern variation?
I don't remember where it was mentioned or what it was about, but I'm sure there's something like this in the game. Maybe the shields? I seriously can't remember, but it caused SOME issues for some modders.
Is this version using the new variation method, or is it still a big list of individual items?

The error goes away if I disable it in the ModConfig with "TroughLarge": false

This mod doesn't work, it gives an error. the other, wood chest, does work well in 1.18. But this gives error.
I will remove doors completely in the next mod update
Theisgood All these mods are currently incompatible with WIldcraft Trees, sadly I can't fix it on my side without adding new recipes (that are different from vanilla)
I actually can't craft anything from your 3 mods wood barrels,wood chests and this mod.
They all show up in the handbook but are not craftable.

This does not work with 1.17.9 :( or I have a conflicting mod or something but all the mods I am using are for 1.17.
The items show up in game but I can't craft them even with the recipes turned on in the config.
Ziver I won't fix it as long as recipe can be crafted and doesn't conflict with other recipes
I'm using 1.1.3 and noticed a recipe issue with the hen box. The wood boards go in the bottom row, instead of going in the middle row like the vanilla recipe.
So something like this:
B = board
G = dry grass
X = empty
BGB
XXX
BBB
In the next 2.0.0 update I will completely remove barrels from the mod since I have a separate Wood Barrels mod

I was trying to place two aged wood doors together and it wouldn't do it correctly, they were always back to back (beam in the middle) also I feel the color doesn't seem correct.

The texture of the lid for the barrel is missing.

The texture for the barrel top on a closed barrel is missing. At least for maple wood, I haven't tried any other wood types.
