This is a complete rewrite of the shearing behavior. Instead on relying on Hide & Fabric being present, Wool & More require now ShearLib to be installed. This also allows shearing to yield two different items at the same time, so f.i. Valais goats now drop f.i. black and white fleece together.

Great mod and I enjoy much of the features. However, ever since I started using it, Locust Nests no longer drop Jonas Parts, only colors of wool twine. Its kind of annoying, can you add a config option to fix it?
I'm on the latest version and I crafted a honey-sulfer poultice with wool. When I tried to apply it it made the wrapping noise and changed the cursor appropriately, but when the bar filled up it just looped again.
Restarting the game after clearing the cache fixed it.
Trying to open the recipie in the handbook for "feathermeal" is crashing the client. Each of our players on the server tried and could confirm. Maybe you want to have a look after that?
Question and potential issue with the handbook entries for this mod. Can animals be sheared at gen 1+ or 3+? The handbook says "must be at least of generation 3" but mod page here says "generation 1+" at time of writing. I've yet to get any animals to test with yet on my world but just noticed the inconsistency and was curious.
The handbook is outdated - the shearing is now at generation 1. Thanx for the report, I'll fix it. Just look at the tooltip of the animals you want to shear.
Hello! sorry for the disturbance, but i cant seem to craft the any wool twine from it's associated fibers. Is it because i'm not a tailor or is this an error with my mods?
If you use the spindle, then yes, you need to be a tailor.
If you are using the "four fibers = 1 twine" recipe, you need to have the right combination. Light brown fibers need to be combined with black to make "brown wool tine", and the reddish brown fibers can be made directly into "brown wool twine".
mrAcerax No, sorry, this is not yet possible. There are also multiple settings (how much units of fleece per hour, how much reduction per generation etc.) so it's not as simple as tweaking a single value.
Tels Ok I have tested it! Made a new creative mode, spawned in all creatures that can be sheared, sheared them with shears. ONLY the bighorn sheep are dropping flax instead of wool. Odd, but now we know.
I was getting wool from killing mouflons, so I knew that it wasn't that the wool itself was registering in as flax, but when I sheared my sheep, I was getting flax-- and I didn't have goats or anything else, so I didn't have that cross-comparison. Looks like it's just the sheep.

Beans ah, I think I see the issue, flaxtwine is the default drop in shearlib when it can't find the item: drop = new AssetLocation(attributes["drop"].AsString("game:flaxtwine"));
Clearly the bighorn patch is doing something wrong, strangely enough it didn't happen in my tests. I'l investigate and fix this. How embarrasing.

Beans Mouflons are not shearable (yet), so this is normal. As for dropping flax - uff, I've never encountered that :-( Does it happen with all animals or just bighorns? Could you maybe test it in creative?

Hi! I've been getting a very strange error where when I shear my sheep(bighorns, the mouflons aren't even showing the UI for me, I don't know if that's normal or just another bug) they drop flax. I'm not too fussed about it, it's a bit of a bummer, I tried reinstalling the mod and also updating vintage story and it didn't fix it. I thought I'd let you know, since those basic things didn't do anything.

Relatively minor bug, but the wool twine recipe for Primitive Survival's trussed fish no longer works and generates an error on load as that mod removed its own fish fillet in favor of using the new vanilla fish.
Madalovin It might have been that VS needed a full restart - I've had similiar problems where just updating the mods and reloading the world did not fix it. But glad it's working now.
Tels After updating Shear to pre.2 it does not seem like I can shear any sheep/goats at all in singleplayer. The prompt does not even show them having fleece.

I'm crashing out of the server causing a client exception when attempting to shear Mouflan ram, Generation 1, with used Tin bronze shears.
Error occurs with a knife aswell.
In single player creative world I tried to shear gen 1 Bighorn and Mouflan, it did not crash me but it did not shear them, no fleece obtained, poor babies are still growing their coats out.
Tegotia Thanx for the report! I've already fixed this issue, it is just minor. The shearing should work with the newest pre-release of shearlib - I have to check if maybe it was broken again. Thank you for letting me know.
Probably to be expected but figured I'd report it anyway, mod is not currently working on 1.22.0-rc.7, I see the below error on launch and am not able to shear the sheep. At least some information is still displayed though, like amount of fleece to be received from shearing.

Alphalight This was an issue in previous version in 1.21, but it should have seen been fixed. Have you upgraded to the latest VS and Wool & More version?
The way that the wool sweaters display is weird on my end. In the character sheet, they appear worn on top of clothes worn in the Upper Body slot; but in-world, they appear below clothes in the Upper Body slot. For example, in-world the sweaters appear under the Hunter Shirt. Is this intended behavior?

I know that's very fussy, and I'm sure you have other priorities, which is why I also asked about making my own stripped-down fork (or maybe a patch?). If you did have the time and inclination to add that kind of fine control yourself, it'd be much appreciated; I have very little game mod coding experience, and so far in VS specifically I've only done baby practice mods with json files that add items, blocks, and recipes. (Would be an interesting learning experience though!)
snailchimera You can already disable shearing on animal groups like GOAT, SHEEP, GAZELLE, DEER and MOOSE. Install configlib and imgui, and then you can press ESC and use "Mod Settings". Or do you want more finer control than that?
Would you be willing to add a config file for disabling shearing on some animals? Alternatively, would you be okay with someone making a stripped-down version of your mod, or a new mod that uses ShearLib, with only a few shearable animals (angora, musk ox, probably bighorn sheep since they're the only sheep in vanilla)?

Saint_Marcos What little time is left for modding I spent fixing bugs and tracking things broken by constant changes to either VS or other mods - so there is really not enough time left to even play the game for me. I'd rather spend this time designing new clothes or finaly starting my long-planne new things than adding compatibility to a mod that I don't use and have no experience with. Sorry for that! I you or somebody else could prepare the patches, I could easily integrate them, but I don't have the resources to research this issue now.

EldritchElli No, my mods aim to be semi-realistic in crafting, following the real life. So this is not what I have in mind. "Bleaching" the wool fibers is alrady unrealistic and was only added because ppl complained they have to many "unusable" fiber colors. I'm still regret adding it :)
You need to find the right kind of animal to grow the fleece color you need and then turn it into fibers.
Edit: Now, bleaching dyed cloth is a thing IRL, but brown wool twine f.i. is dyed, it's natural brown. Red wool twine is dyed, tho. So, I'll think about adding it, maybe only for some colors? And make it configurable. (It would then require making it possible to bleach linen cloth, too. It never ends...)

I saw you replied to someone previously saying that its out of scope, so i just wanted to point out that they state this on their modpage: Easy Integration: Adding compatibility for new clothing, food, and drinks is straightforward with the included custom JSON patching method. All vanilla items have been patched using this method, and examples can be found in the config folder. Simply include a json in the modconfig folder with either the name name.AddHydration.json or name.AddCooling.json. And my patcher will detect it and patch the item accordingly. The priorty level goes from 1-5 with 1 being top priority for the purpose of overwriting other patches.

Hey! I might be doing something wrong, but how do you wash fleece? I have a barrel of limewater and regular water, but adding any type fleece doesn't do anything and I'm unable to seal the barrel.
MiraLeaps It is safe to add and you should also be able to safely remove it. There might be a few unknown items or blocks but you can simply discard them.
Makzin The patch for the domesticated animal trader needs updating. There error just means you won't get it to sell some TD stuff, nothing big is lost.

Having the same error with Patch 0 and 1 if that makes a difference. Game loads fine but I'm not sure if it'll cause issues at some point.

LadyKianna I don't know, think this is a local client setting. Every release the VS teams say they have fixed that and it seems to break every now and then. There is a mod out there to automatically resize the texture atlas, I belive. This bug never manifested for me.
JustaKobold This is a VS recipe, I didn't change it. Flax twine is also much stronger than wool twine, that is why I didn't make a second recipe with "1 linen + 1 wool twine". I could see if I can add a "1 linen + 2 wool twine" - but then, you could also make just a woolen sack, right?
The bags, so say i got 1 linen but no flax twine but i do have some wool twine i would love to use that to make a sack i guess its probably only an issue when using tailors delight cause it makes the recipes a bit more complicated

looking into the DAT's files, there's an attribute "tradePropsFile" that points to a different file config/tradelists/trader-domesticanimal where the .json with the selling list is located
it's been a very long time since i've dared to touch any code, but i think changing the path and file entries in your patch file might work? (or at least, i've tried a test fix and it's not throwing the error anymore)
LadyKianna Never heard of this specific issue before, but sometimes textures are the "white + red question" mark when the texture atlas is too small. This should no longer happen in VS but it still can happen with heavily modded plays. Increasing the texture atlas size could help. Hope you can fix it and enjoy our mods :)
Anyone else having issues with Wool & More items not showing textures? It's only wool/fleece based items, and its just showing white with red instead of textures? Works fine in singleplayer but not in a multiplayer server. Yes we do have Shearlib and we also have Tailor's Delights. Havent tried to craft anything yet because we just started over recently, but handbook does seem to show the recipies working fine, so I think it's just a texture issue.

when Rabbits are skinned with the butchery mod they drop only charcoal instead of fleece and raw hide. dont know if its your mod or butchery. just letting you both know.
the wool sweaters appear to be invisible on our server (1.20 for now), we're using beasts of men which i assume might be why? any chance there could be compatibility in the future?
flakeinator Shearing only works on live animals, so it should not be affected by Butchering. The Critters Mod only adds yaks, and theys should be shearable (although I haven't tested it lately, fell free to ping me if its not working).
Dead sheep/goats etc. drop sometimes fleece and last I tested it, this was compatible with Butchering, if you butcher them, you should get the same drops.

Lord_Mulch This is because the sweaters are 2D textures made before VS switched to 3D clothings. I need to redo them but did not yet have the time. Hopefully one day - because we all love the sweaters! :)
Lord_Mulch Did you disable some drops via the config? I see that some of my patches are missing the "enabled: true", which means they don't get disabled (and then fail when the other patches preluding them are not executed). I'll fix it in the next release, thanx for the report!
Able There is just the slight problem that there is only the VS cowl, regardless how you craft it. To fix this, I'd need to add a second "wool cowl", and then add patches to make you cool down. This however, needs need items, clothing models+textures and a bunch of translation work. I'm sorry, but this is out of scope for this mod.

Tels wool is actually quite breathable! it keeps the sun off and still lets sweat evaporate, though when layered too much it will indeed overinsulate, but the cowl would for sure cool you down

Tels HoD has a system for cooling from clothing similar to warmth in basegame.
I think it would be of similar difficulty to add as the values for warmth, but I am no modder
FamiliarFeline wool is heavier and less durable than linen, so I think using wool for the fabric portion would defeat the idea of having woven linen as armor. I had the idea to make a "less good" version as in H&F but haven't gotten around to it - it would need probably new textures, bloat the handbook etc. The windmills suffer btw from the same problem but I caved in to pressure from ppl who just want some way to avoid flax farming...
Is there any chance we eventually get the ability to craft tailored Gambesons with wool, or at least with wool assisting us? I feel like similar to the windmill sails, it could be able to be used for the "Fabric" portion of the craft while flax twine is used for the thread portion.

Ah I remember now, it conflicted with the mod "Truth and Beauty: Detailed Animals" - they make gazelle bread, too. I'm not sure I can make this compatible.
Tels Looking at the base game files, I can't find any sign they can multiply like other domesticable animals, and the wiki says they can't be domesticated.
Entity You can configure Wool & More by installing configlib and imgui and then going to the Mod Settings from the main menu and disable the drifter drops plus much more.
Does this mod make gazelles domesticable? I noticed that they're shearable, but couldn't find anything in the mods files to indicate that they can be domesticated.
I'd certainly love to see compatability with https://mods.vintagestory.at/show/mod/22373 so I could use blue wool to make the armors. given in that one's case the blue flax fabric is purely decorative but mandatory to craft the peice.
Michael00181 My mods are based on VS' realism, and turning wool into flax would be quite absurd... And for "realism" some things simply require EITHER wool or linen but not both.
That bein said, what mods are you using and what would you like to craft with wool? We can certainly add more compatibility, even tho it's impossible to cover everything. You can also ping me on Discord for easier communication.
A lot of mods that add recepies involving flax products can't bee made with wool. I know trying to patch fro them would be absurd so I'm wodnering if we coudl get some feature to just turn wool cloth into flax cloth for the purposes of being able to make things from other mods via our wool production.
Scorives Mods usually don't have to do anything special to work with Better Crates - my mods never did. So it must be a bug on the Better Crate end, and I can't fix it. Sorry.
Edit: Also, in our play testing, Wool & More just works fine with Better Crates, so not sure what your issue is.

Mollycoddle There is no config setting for panning drops yet, I can add one. The panning drops should be in addition to the normal drops, so you can just throw them away. Put a reed basket next to you and just shove it in :)
How would I go about removing the drops from panning results? Panning large amounts of bony soil is basically impossible with the sheer number of wool/fleece/etc colour variants that get shoved into my inventory.

LadyCassandra The recipes for the brownish fibers are a bit different - reddish brown needs to be combined with light brown. The recipes switching makes it hard to follow, I'll show the side by side in the next version. Once you use reddish brown + 2 light brown (left/right) it will work.
Wonderful mod. I had a question, though. I am trying to use the spindle to make twine from the wool fibers introduced in this mod via the spindle from your Tailor's Delight mod, although that doesn't seem to be working? I do have the clothier trait and the recipe says it should work. Are you aware of this? I am trying it with `Reddish brown wool fibers`
HaraiseTenshi "Gathering flleece from dead animals" should work with Butchering, the last time I tested it, it worked, thanx to the author of Butchering even fixing some things. Please do report if it doesn't work. The sheering always works on live animals.
Reading through the code you have on the Shears + Wool cloth (not the one with the stick in it or the ), it says you're supposed to get 3 twine back instead of 4 to simulate losses with cutting, but the ingame only shows 1 twine you get back. I was trying to make a little patch for a server and found that out.
This also includes the Wool Bag + Shears, you get only 2 wool back instead of 4 (cut from 5 for losses)
theoretically speaking Tels cause the modder knows atm that both your mods edit the same files so he will do a seperate comptach for his mod! Alas only thing you should do once it's out to add a little remark that there is a compatch there! Taska
had to do a easy compatch for ancient tools otherwise all vanilla creatures wont have that loottable of the ancient tools mod which would be the brain drops you get.
Are you planning on allowing for diluted borax to be used in place of limewater for washing fleece? I'm unsure if it's different from leather in that respect for a reason but I find myself with far more borax than lime due to strata generation. The mod otherwise is great and I appreciate the warmer clothing options it provides.
Yoshio No, its a bug brought by the clothing changes in 1.20. I'm aware of it but had no time to fix it because it measn I need to remake the models and textures, or at least use VS models and remake the textures. There are only so many hours in a day to play catch up to the ever changing VS...
Even though the sweaters go on the coat slot, whenever I use a shirt the sweater doesn't show on my model, but it shows whatever I have equiped as a shirt. Is this the intended behaviour?
The dependencies in VS are minimum requirements, so it should work with both shearlib 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 - and I've used it successfully with 1.1.2 - what exactly is your error messages?
Well now I'm wondering if I wasn't just incredibly unlucky. Because I got drops with the same mods I have in my survival game in creative, then realized maybe being the Rust Wizard class from Rustbound Magic could mess with it. That did seem to decrease the rate of drops, but I still got them. Sometimes a run of 10 or so drifters with nothing. So maybe I just had a really long 20+ drifter set of bad luck. I also noticed sometimes it seems the drops take a brief moment to show up in the "content" panel after harvesting, possible I clicked away in that split second (If I was looting with other monsters around that could happen). So I went back to my survival game and the first surface drifter gave me a flax fiber. So either some other mod updating fixed it, or I was just unlucky or clicking away too fast.

Tels I did get this error while loading game while upgrading to latest version. [Error] Grid Recipe 'wool:recipes/grid/sewingkit.json': Output Block code game:sewingkit cannot be resolved. Haven't run into any actual issues in gameplay yet.
Tels I honestly didn't think of using creative mode, silly of me. Done and with just Shearlib and Wool & Stuff there are drops, so this isn't due to this mod, or at least this mod alone. I'm sorry for posting before I tested it individually. Now to start activating all my mods gradually and see if I can get the same bug.
RemyDuron I'll have a look at the error when drops are disabled. I think it is harmless, but make sure it won't happen.
Surface drifters drop loot more often (like 50% instead of 25% of the time in VS) but they still might not drop anything. Could you please do me a favor, go into creative mode, press E to go into the menu, spawn yourself and admin blade and some drifters, kill them and try to harvest them. Does it still not drop loot at all, even for say, double headed drifters?
I'm having some issues with drifters never dropping ANY loot of any kind. I know they don't drop a lot, but I'm talking nothing from a couple dozen. I haven't taken the step of isolating mods and making new worlds to test yet (hoping to avoid it), as far as I can tell the only mod I'm using that modified drifter drops is this one and I get this error when loading the game.

I have only encountered surface drifters, and there is no error about them. I tried disabling changing drifter loot in the config but that did not make a difference. I'll try doing isolated tests sometime soon, laziness/ADHD permitting. I'll post again if I manage to track down the problem or show it is definitely this mod.
Edit: That error does not occur if I set "enable_drifter_drops: true" in the config. Still no drops.
Thranos What I meant to say was, that the new 1.5.4 release was tested in both 1.20.4 and 1.20.3 and should be working all the way down to 1.20.0. But I only tested 1.20.3 and 1.20.4 and only some things, not everything. This is why 1.5.4 is tagged as "working" form 1.20.0 on, but I'd advise you to upgrade to 1.20.4.
The 1.5.2 release was broken by 1.20.4 (it worked in 1.20.3), and the 1.5.3 release was supposed to fix that but was broken by me. 1.5.4 now fixes it all, hopefully 😅
wojtek16 Uploaded 1.5.4 - this should fix the error, sorry for the inconvience. I can only do cursory testing with older VS versions, it seems to work on 1.20.3 but no guarantees for older versions. When in doubt, please update VS :)
It looks like I'm getting a dependency error for 1.20.3 loading the newest version 1.5.3 of this mod, with the new version of tailor's delight I don't get this issue, do you think this could be fixed? I appreciate your guys' work!!! :)))

LumpyAcidFish Catasteroid has asked me to take Hide & Fabric over. It is, however, as one can see from the many many patches in TD, kinda half-broken. So I've decided to replacing Hide & Fabric with a new mods that implement the different parts (wool, cotton and hides).
Wool & More is quite done (except some clothing items like mittens and armor), including the whole animal shearing - which is now much improved and less buggy :) Cotton is not yet released, and I have not started working on the Hide part. So currently TD and W&M are in a sort of-half-backed state and I'm sorry for that. More will come once 1.20 is out. Once the new H&F modules are released, I'll slowly remove the compatibility in TD for it.
In the meantime, I don't want to add patches for Hide & Fabric into Wool & More as that would encourage ppl to use H&F more, which will then make upgrading to the new mods quite complicated. It's also more work for me and would slow down the progress of re-implementing H&F.
You can convert H&F wool into W&M wool and then use it for the other crafting recipes. I'll also add a few more patches into that direction, but as I said, only in a mild form. Please stay tuned and thank you for using our mods 🧡
Note: We do use H&F on our server and I enjoy many things from it, so don't fear, the bear armor cap and hare boots etc. will also come along :D
could you please make your mod compatible with hide and fabric to only use one wool twine
the mod tailors delight updated itself to fix hide and fabrics issue of domestic sheep not eating from a trough so im sure you can do something like make both mods use a single wool twine
ZenithEevee Thanx for the report, it is currently impossible to make a mod that works both on 1.19.8 and 1.20 due to the VS code changes. I've currently added the recipes twice, which basically means 1.19 complains about the 1.20 version and vice versa. This will be fixed once we move development fully to 1.20.
Just for the record, the link below is a bug report and it does not contain a proper solution. Using "allowedVariants" is just a work-around and not a fully replacement. Because it means on every recipe I would need to add all variants and every variant added would mean I (or another mod author) would need to patch hundreds of recipes. This issue can only proper be fixed in the VS engine.

gndrneutralnoun Wool & More is exclusively for wool and fleece. Other fabric types like cotton or silk will be in different mods. And since there is already a working silk mod, I would not create one myself. (Cotton might come as an extra mod just to replace more of Hide & Fabric but even that is low-priority, so much else to do :)
Have you guys considered adding silk like in this mod? There needs to be a use for spiderwebs IMO, and integrating silk into this and/or Tailor's Delight would be awesome.
wojtek16 The mods are there to enhance the Tailor class, so, it doesn't make much sense to disable this. There is currently no config option for that and it would be quite some work to develop one. In the meantime, you can only disable "Class based recipes" so everyone can craft everything. I'll think about adding a config option, but it might take quite a while if it is possible at all.
is there a way to disable the need for the tailor trait on your guys' mods? I've been wanting to set all 3, the wool one, tailor's delight, and dressmaker but am not sure how to disable the feature and if it's possible through config. If so do you guys have anywhere to point me or how to do it? If there isn't a way, maybe do you guys know if there's a way to stack traits?

ElSublimePeluca Wool adds a few Tailor specific recipes, so if a mod removes the tailor class, this might or might not work. You would need to either test it yourself or ask the author of MoreClassesFix to deal with this.
The_Dude As Flint_N_Steel said, for shearing you need "Hide & Fabric". At the moment, only sheep and goat can be sheared. Elk, deer and mouse will be shearable in the next release. Also please be aware, if you use "Entities Interact", some patches fail to apply, so Drifters dropping fleece and sheep dropping fleece might not work. I'm working on a fix. Thank you for using our mods :)
TheDude Butchering compatibility should work, it seems it works not if it is outdated. Please try again with Butchering v1.6.7 that should drop some fleece **on the butchering table**. You might need to have to break your hooks and butchering table and set them down again after the update, but fleece should definitely drop.
The next release of Butchering should drop the fleece when you skin the animal instead on the table.

jayu The character is supposed to be an ampersand, aka &. ModDB has some troubles displaying ampersands so I got fancy and selected the italic ampersand - the last one from here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ampersand - if that character does not display correctly for you, then maybe your system is missing a font? You could try installing Google Noto, or even perhaps a free font like GNU Unifont - both are free for use. I'm curious on what operating system are you?
A question, is the name supposed to have an "&" as in "Wool & More"? Or is it some other character? Because both on here and on discord it appears as a glitched unicode ? to me.

Can wool be used to make a sailboat?
Great mod and I enjoy much of the features. However, ever since I started using it, Locust Nests no longer drop Jonas Parts, only colors of wool twine. Its kind of annoying, can you add a config option to fix it?
This shouldn't be the case, W&M only adds to the drop list. I'll investigate and see what's up and this can be fixed.

I'm on the latest version and I crafted a honey-sulfer poultice with wool. When I tried to apply it it made the wrapping noise and changed the cursor appropriately, but when the bar filled up it just looped again.
Restarting the game after clearing the cache fixed it.
Trying to open the recipie in the handbook for "feathermeal" is crashing the client. Each of our players on the server tried and could confirm. Maybe you want to have a look after that?
I tested this in my game and the game didn't crash. Did you install Tailor's Delight? Because this mod and this recipe depend on it.

Is it just my luck being horrendous or do temporal gears not drop from mobs with this mod installed, has anyone felt the same?
I've never had this issue, we use Wool & More all the time and still get plenty of temporal gears from drifters etc.
Question and potential issue with the handbook entries for this mod. Can animals be sheared at gen 1+ or 3+? The handbook says "must be at least of generation 3" but mod page here says "generation 1+" at time of writing. I've yet to get any animals to test with yet on my world but just noticed the inconsistency and was curious.
The handbook is outdated - the shearing is now at generation 1. Thanx for the report, I'll fix it. Just look at the tooltip of the animals you want to shear.
Hello! sorry for the disturbance, but i cant seem to craft the any wool twine from it's associated fibers. Is it because i'm not a tailor or is this an error with my mods?

If you use the spindle, then yes, you need to be a tailor.
If you are using the "four fibers = 1 twine" recipe, you need to have the right combination. Light brown fibers need to be combined with black to make "brown wool tine", and the reddish brown fibers can be made directly into "brown wool twine".

mrAcerax No, sorry, this is not yet possible. There are also multiple settings (how much units of fleece per hour, how much reduction per generation etc.) so it's not as simple as tweaking a single value.

Tels Ok I have tested it! Made a new creative mode, spawned in all creatures that can be sheared, sheared them with shears. ONLY the bighorn sheep are dropping flax instead of wool. Odd, but now we know.
I was getting wool from killing mouflons, so I knew that it wasn't that the wool itself was registering in as flax, but when I sheared my sheep, I was getting flax-- and I didn't have goats or anything else, so I didn't have that cross-comparison. Looks like it's just the sheep.

Clearly the bighorn patch is doing something wrong, strangely enough it didn't happen in my tests. I'l investigate and fix this. How embarrasing.

Beans Mouflons are not shearable (yet), so this is normal. As for dropping flax - uff, I've never encountered that :-( Does it happen with all animals or just bighorns? Could you maybe test it in creative?
Hi! I've been getting a very strange error where when I shear my sheep(bighorns, the mouflons aren't even showing the UI for me, I don't know if that's normal or just another bug) they drop flax. I'm not too fussed about it, it's a bit of a bummer, I tried reinstalling the mod and also updating vintage story and it didn't fix it. I thought I'd let you know, since those basic things didn't do anything.

Relatively minor bug, but the wool twine recipe for Primitive Survival's trussed fish no longer works and generates an error on load as that mod removed its own fish fillet in favor of using the new vanilla fish.

Madalovin It might have been that VS needed a full restart - I've had similiar problems where just updating the mods and reloading the world did not fix it. But glad it's working now.

I'm crashing out of the server causing a client exception when attempting to shear Mouflan ram, Generation 1, with used Tin bronze shears.
Error occurs with a knife aswell.
In single player creative world I tried to shear gen 1 Bighorn and Mouflan, it did not crash me but it did not shear them, no fleece obtained, poor babies are still growing their coats out.
Getting this error on 1.22.0-rc.8 with both mods updated to latest.
Caused by use of bronze shears on a recently grown first gen Mouflon Ewe that according to display info is ready to be sheared.
(unrelated: mouflons are such horrible animals to domesticate, my god)

Probably to be expected but figured I'd report it anyway, mod is not currently working on 1.22.0-rc.7, I see the below error on launch and am not able to shear the sheep. At least some information is still displayed though, like amount of fleece to be received from shearing.

The way that the wool sweaters display is weird on my end. In the character sheet, they appear worn on top of clothes worn in the Upper Body slot; but in-world, they appear below clothes in the Upper Body slot. For example, in-world the sweaters appear under the Hunter Shirt. Is this intended behavior?

I know that's very fussy, and I'm sure you have other priorities, which is why I also asked about making my own stripped-down fork (or maybe a patch?). If you did have the time and inclination to add that kind of fine control yourself, it'd be much appreciated; I have very little game mod coding experience, and so far in VS specifically I've only done baby practice mods with json files that add items, blocks, and recipes. (Would be an interesting learning experience though!)

Would you be willing to add a config file for disabling shearing on some animals? Alternatively, would you be okay with someone making a stripped-down version of your mod, or a new mod that uses ShearLib, with only a few shearable animals (angora, musk ox, probably bighorn sheep since they're the only sheep in vanilla)?

Nyklone They require the specific colors in the recipe. Why would think you can craft a white sweater with green wool? So, yes, build youself a dying workshop, and an animal pen and get cracking! You will be proud of your first sweater :)

Saint_Marcos What little time is left for modding I spent fixing bugs and tracking things broken by constant changes to either VS or other mods - so there is really not enough time left to even play the game for me. I'd rather spend this time designing new clothes or finaly starting my long-planne new things than adding compatibility to a mod that I don't use and have no experience with. Sorry for that! I you or somebody else could prepare the patches, I could easily integrate them, but I don't have the resources to research this issue now.
EldritchElli No, my mods aim to be semi-realistic in crafting, following the real life. So this is not what I have in mind. "Bleaching" the wool fibers is alrady unrealistic and was only added because ppl complained they have to many "unusable" fiber colors. I'm still regret adding it :)
You need to find the right kind of animal to grow the fleece color you need and then turn it into fibers.
Edit: Now, bleaching dyed cloth is a thing IRL, but brown wool twine f.i. is dyed, it's natural brown. Red wool twine is dyed, tho. So, I'll think about adding it, maybe only for some colors? And make it configurable. (It would then require making it possible to bleach linen cloth, too. It never ends...)
Tels It's still not orking for me. I have tried adding 1 to 50 fleece and still get nothing. Is there a minimum/maximum amount I can add? (Sorry for the slow response, had work.)
Edit: I have also tried the same amounts with diluted borax, limewater, and diluted kernite with no response.

All vanilla items have been patched using this method, and examples can be found in the config folder. Simply include a json in the modconfig folder with either the name name.AddHydration.json or name.AddCooling.json. And my patcher will detect it and patch the item accordingly. The priorty level goes from 1-5 with 1 being top priority for the purpose of overwriting other patches.

Hey! I might be doing something wrong, but how do you wash fleece? I have a barrel of limewater and regular water, but adding any type fleece doesn't do anything and I'm unable to seal the barrel.

MiraLeaps It is safe to add and you should also be able to safely remove it. There might be a few unknown items or blocks but you can simply discard them.

LadyKianna I don't know, think this is a local client setting. Every release the VS teams say they have fixed that and it seems to break every now and then. There is a mod out there to automatically resize the texture atlas, I belive. This bug never manifested for me.
JustaKobold This is a VS recipe, I didn't change it. Flax twine is also much stronger than wool twine, that is why I didn't make a second recipe with "1 linen + 1 wool twine". I could see if I can add a "1 linen + 2 wool twine" - but then, you could also make just a woolen sack, right?
The bags, so say i got 1 linen but no flax twine but i do have some wool twine i would love to use that to make a sack i guess its probably only an issue when using tailors delight cause it makes the recipes a bit more complicated

looking into the DAT's files, there's an attribute "tradePropsFile" that points to a different file config/tradelists/trader-domesticanimal where the .json with the selling list is located

LadyKianna Never heard of this specific issue before, but sometimes textures are the "white + red question" mark when the texture atlas is too small. This should no longer happen in VS but it still can happen with heavily modded plays. Increasing the texture atlas size could help. Hope you can fix it and enjoy our mods :)
Anyone else having issues with Wool & More items not showing textures? It's only wool/fleece based items, and its just showing white with red instead of textures? Works fine in singleplayer but not in a multiplayer server.
Yes we do have Shearlib and we also have Tailor's Delights. Havent tried to craft anything yet because we just started over recently, but handbook does seem to show the recipies working fine, so I think it's just a texture issue.

the wool sweaters appear to be invisible on our server (1.20 for now), we're using beasts of men which i assume might be why? any chance there could be compatibility in the future?
flakeinator Shearing only works on live animals, so it should not be affected by Butchering. The Critters Mod only adds yaks, and theys should be shearable (although I haven't tested it lately, fell free to ping me if its not working).
Dead sheep/goats etc. drop sometimes fleece and last I tested it, this was compatible with Butchering, if you butcher them, you should get the same drops.

Lord_Mulch This is because the sweaters are 2D textures made before VS switched to 3D clothings. I need to redo them but did not yet have the time. Hopefully one day - because we all love the sweaters! :)

Lord_Mulch Did you disable some drops via the config? I see that some of my patches are missing the "enabled: true", which means they don't get disabled (and then fail when the other patches preluding them are not executed). I'll fix it in the next release, thanx for the report!
Able There is just the slight problem that there is only the VS cowl, regardless how you craft it. To fix this, I'd need to add a second "wool cowl", and then add patches to make you cool down. This however, needs need items, clothing models+textures and a bunch of translation work. I'm sorry, but this is out of scope for this mod.

Tels wool is actually quite breathable! it keeps the sun off and still lets sweat evaporate, though when layered too much it will indeed overinsulate, but the cowl would for sure cool you down

FamiliarFeline wool is heavier and less durable than linen, so I think using wool for the fabric portion would defeat the idea of having woven linen as armor. I had the idea to make a "less good" version as in H&F but haven't gotten around to it - it would need probably new textures, bloat the handbook etc.
The windmills suffer btw from the same problem but I caved in to pressure from ppl who just want some way to avoid flax farming...

Michael00181 My mods are based on VS' realism, and turning wool into flax would be quite absurd... And for "realism" some things simply require EITHER wool or linen but not both.
That bein said, what mods are you using and what would you like to craft with wool? We can certainly add more compatibility, even tho it's impossible to cover everything. You can also ping me on Discord for easier communication.
A lot of mods that add recepies involving flax products can't bee made with wool. I know trying to patch fro them would be absurd so I'm wodnering if we coudl get some feature to just turn wool cloth into flax cloth for the purposes of being able to make things from other mods via our wool production.

Scorives Mods usually don't have to do anything special to work with Better Crates - my mods never did. So it must be a bug on the Better Crate end, and I can't fix it. Sorry.
Edit: Also, in our play testing, Wool & More just works fine with Better Crates, so not sure what your issue is.

Mollycoddle There is no config setting for panning drops yet, I can add one. The panning drops should be in addition to the normal drops, so you can just throw them away. Put a reed basket next to you and just shove it in :)
How would I go about removing the drops from panning results? Panning large amounts of bony soil is basically impossible with the sheer number of wool/fleece/etc colour variants that get shoved into my inventory.

LadyCassandra The recipes for the brownish fibers are a bit different - reddish brown needs to be combined with light brown. The recipes switching makes it hard to follow, I'll show the side by side in the next version. Once you use reddish brown + 2 light brown (left/right) it will work.

HaraiseTenshi "Gathering flleece from dead animals" should work with Butchering, the last time I tested it, it worked, thanx to the author of Butchering even fixing some things. Please do report if it doesn't work. The sheering always works on live animals.

Reading through the code you have on the Shears + Wool cloth (not the one with the stick in it or the ), it says you're supposed to get 3 twine back instead of 4 to simulate losses with cutting, but the ingame only shows 1 twine you get back. I was trying to make a little patch for a server and found that out.
This also includes the Wool Bag + Shears, you get only 2 wool back instead of 4 (cut from 5 for losses)
theoretically speaking Tels cause the modder knows atm that both your mods edit the same files so he will do a seperate comptach for his mod! Alas only thing you should do once it's out to add a little remark that there is a compatch there! Taska

Are you planning on allowing for diluted borax to be used in place of limewater for washing fleece? I'm unsure if it's different from leather in that respect for a reason but I find myself with far more borax than lime due to strata generation. The mod otherwise is great and I appreciate the warmer clothing options it provides.
Yoshio No, its a bug brought by the clothing changes in 1.20. I'm aware of it but had no time to fix it because it measn I need to remake the models and textures, or at least use VS models and remake the textures. There are only so many hours in a day to play catch up to the ever changing VS...
Even though the sweaters go on the coat slot, whenever I use a shirt the sweater doesn't show on my model, but it shows whatever I have equiped as a shirt. Is this the intended behaviour?

The dependencies in VS are minimum requirements, so it should work with both shearlib 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 - and I've used it successfully with 1.1.2 - what exactly is your error messages?
version 1.6.0 is saying dependency is on shearlib 1.1.1 instead of 1.1.2 and wont load

Well now I'm wondering if I wasn't just incredibly unlucky. Because I got drops with the same mods I have in my survival game in creative, then realized maybe being the Rust Wizard class from Rustbound Magic could mess with it. That did seem to decrease the rate of drops, but I still got them. Sometimes a run of 10 or so drifters with nothing. So maybe I just had a really long 20+ drifter set of bad luck. I also noticed sometimes it seems the drops take a brief moment to show up in the "content" panel after harvesting, possible I clicked away in that split second (If I was looting with other monsters around that could happen). So I went back to my survival game and the first surface drifter gave me a flax fiber. So either some other mod updating fixed it, or I was just unlucky or clicking away too fast.

Tels I honestly didn't think of using creative mode, silly of me. Done and with just Shearlib and Wool & Stuff there are drops, so this isn't due to this mod, or at least this mod alone. I'm sorry for posting before I tested it individually. Now to start activating all my mods gradually and see if I can get the same bug.
RemyDuron I'll have a look at the error when drops are disabled. I think it is harmless, but make sure it won't happen.
Surface drifters drop loot more often (like 50% instead of 25% of the time in VS) but they still might not drop anything. Could you please do me a favor, go into creative mode, press E to go into the menu, spawn yourself and admin blade and some drifters, kill them and try to harvest them. Does it still not drop loot at all, even for say, double headed drifters?
I'm having some issues with drifters never dropping ANY loot of any kind. I know they don't drop a lot, but I'm talking nothing from a couple dozen. I haven't taken the step of isolating mods and making new worlds to test yet (hoping to avoid it), as far as I can tell the only mod I'm using that modified drifter drops is this one and I get this error when loading the game.

I have only encountered surface drifters, and there is no error about them. I tried disabling changing drifter loot in the config but that did not make a difference. I'll try doing isolated tests sometime soon, laziness/ADHD permitting. I'll post again if I manage to track down the problem or show it is definitely this mod.
Edit: That error does not occur if I set "enable_drifter_drops: true" in the config. Still no drops.

Thranos What I meant to say was, that the new 1.5.4 release was tested in both 1.20.4 and 1.20.3 and should be working all the way down to 1.20.0. But I only tested 1.20.3 and 1.20.4 and only some things, not everything. This is why 1.5.4 is tagged as "working" form 1.20.0 on, but I'd advise you to upgrade to 1.20.4.
The 1.5.2 release was broken by 1.20.4 (it worked in 1.20.3), and the 1.5.3 release was supposed to fix that but was broken by me. 1.5.4 now fixes it all, hopefully 😅
... But 1.20.4 is newer than 1.20.3...

Thats good. Just the issue we have been running into is already made wool twine not being able to used to craft scarves.
LumpyAcidFish Catasteroid has asked me to take Hide & Fabric over. It is, however, as one can see from the many many patches in TD, kinda half-broken.
So I've decided to replacing Hide & Fabric with a new mods that implement the different parts (wool, cotton and hides).
Wool & More is quite done (except some clothing items like mittens and armor), including the whole animal shearing - which is now much improved and less buggy :) Cotton is not yet released, and I have not started working on the Hide part. So currently TD and W&M are in a sort of-half-backed state and I'm sorry for that. More will come once 1.20 is out. Once the new H&F modules are released, I'll slowly remove the compatibility in TD for it.
In the meantime, I don't want to add patches for Hide & Fabric into Wool & More as that would encourage ppl to use H&F more, which will then make upgrading to the new mods quite complicated. It's also more work for me and would slow down the progress of re-implementing H&F.
You can convert H&F wool into W&M wool and then use it for the other crafting recipes. I'll also add a few more patches into that direction, but as I said, only in a mild form. Please stay tuned and thank you for using our mods 🧡
Note: We do use H&F on our server and I enjoy many things from it, so don't fear, the bear armor cap and hare boots etc. will also come along :D
could you please make your mod compatible with hide and fabric to only use one wool twine
the mod tailors delight updated itself to fix hide and fabrics issue of domestic sheep not eating from a trough so im sure you can do something like make both mods use a single wool twine
ZenithEevee Thanx for the report, it is currently impossible to make a mod that works both on 1.19.8 and 1.20 due to the VS code changes. I've currently added the recipes twice, which basically means 1.19 complains about the 1.20 version and vice versa. This will be fixed once we move development fully to 1.20.

Just for the record, the link below is a bug report and it does not contain a proper solution. Using "allowedVariants" is just a work-around and not a fully replacement. Because it means on every recipe I would need to add all variants and every variant added would mean I (or another mod author) would need to patch hundreds of recipes. This issue can only proper be fixed in the VS engine.

gndrneutralnoun Wool & More is exclusively for wool and fleece. Other fabric types like cotton or silk will be in different mods. And since there is already a working silk mod, I would not create one myself. (Cotton might come as an extra mod just to replace more of Hide & Fabric but even that is low-priority, so much else to do :)
Have you guys considered adding silk like in this mod? There needs to be a use for spiderwebs IMO, and integrating silk into this and/or Tailor's Delight would be awesome.
wojtek16 The mods are there to enhance the Tailor class, so, it doesn't make much sense to disable this. There is currently no config option for that and it would be quite some work to develop one. In the meantime, you can only disable "Class based recipes" so everyone can craft everything. I'll think about adding a config option, but it might take quite a while if it is possible at all.
is there a way to disable the need for the tailor trait on your guys' mods? I've been wanting to set all 3, the wool one, tailor's delight, and dressmaker but am not sure how to disable the feature and if it's possible through config. If so do you guys have anywhere to point me or how to do it? If there isn't a way, maybe do you guys know if there's a way to stack traits?

ElSublimePeluca Wool adds a few Tailor specific recipes, so if a mod removes the tailor class, this might or might not work. You would need to either test it yourself or ask the author of MoreClassesFix to deal with this.

Tels Can you check whether fleece-deer-lightbrown is washable with limewater? I seem to be unable to do it, other fleece types seem to work fine.
The_Dude As Flint_N_Steel said, for shearing you need "Hide & Fabric". At the moment, only sheep and goat can be sheared. Elk, deer and mouse will be shearable in the next release. Also please be aware, if you use "Entities Interact", some patches fail to apply, so Drifters dropping fleece and sheep dropping fleece might not work. I'm working on a fix. TheDude Butchering compatibility should work, it seems it works not if it is outdated. Please try again with Butchering v1.6.7 that should drop some fleece **on the butchering table**. You might need to have to break your hooks and butchering table and set them down again after the update, but fleece should definitely drop.
The next release of Butchering should drop the fleece when you skin the animal instead on the table.

Tels I'll see. I have a Mac, but I also encounter the same problem on my iPhone. Kind of weird because I don't recall ever finding an unrecognised unicode character

jayu The character is supposed to be an ampersand, aka &. ModDB has some troubles displaying ampersands so I got fancy and selected the italic ampersand - the last one from here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ampersand - if that character does not display correctly for you, then maybe your system is missing a font? You could try installing Google Noto, or even perhaps a free font like GNU Unifont - both are free for use. I'm curious on what operating system are you?
And do others experience the same?
A question, is the name supposed to have an "&" as in "Wool & More"? Or is it some other character? Because both on here and on discord it appears as a glitched unicode ? to me.
Very cool! Thank you Tels and Phiwa! If I made mod files for felt would you consider adding it? Good for clothes like capes, hats, as well as blankets.
Later, I have dreams of Mongolian Gers/Kazakh Yurts for v1.20, to live as a horse nomad. Ger/Yurt would be separate mod, just would be awesome to include felt in your mod). If you're not interested, that's completely fine, I can issue on my own.
