ryanberry Unfortunately that didn't fix it in 2.1.7, i don't use the features in the updates after 2.1.5 anyway so i'll keep running it. I am also having issue with the latest Extra Info and simple clock hud mods not showing up either, i go back one version and all is happy.

Mors Try increasing your texture atlas size to 8192 or 16384. It's in clientsettings.json, and also there's a mod called "Bigger Texture Atlas" that does it without editing configs. This fixed all manners of invisible things for me.

This mod does not work along "Immersive Wood Chopping" mod and it conflicts making it unable to place down a wood log to chop. I had to disable this mod in order to continue chopping wood... Hopefully there is a compatibility fix soon but for the meantime, I'll be keeping this mod off...

DanaCraluminum I'm not sure how to get the screenshot and get it uploaded but it thinks there's flax fibers on that block and whenever I place anything else on that spot, it turns into the texture of the flax fibers

DanaCraluminum for whatever reason, it isn't doing it anymore. Hindsight it was only happening on a block that I had previously placed flax string or whatever it's called. I'm a noob, idk things. Whatever I would place in that spot (candles and books were the only things I tried, I think) took on the texture of stacked flax twine or string... the base flax mat. If it happens again, I'll be sure to grab a ss.

I'm having an issue where everything I place tends to turn into a large rope looking entity in a sort of figure 8 shape. I also have the place every item mod installed. Maybe the two are clashing, but I'm not sure. I'll test tomorrow. Just wanted to mention it since I still had the tab open here.

we had a bug, one of our friends kept crashing instantly when he tried to log in :( It turned out his character was located inside a structure from the 'Better Ruins' mod.

We were trying to figure it out, and the author of Better Ruins actually told us to remove your mod specifically. So we did, and it worked! As soon as we removed MorePiles, the crashing stopped and he could log in again :)

It was a bit confusing, because if the issue is a vanilla one then there's not much that can be done of course :( Maybe it'll get patched soon though.

But anyway, thanks a lot for the effort you put into your mods, we enjoy them much! :D

Title: [BUG CONFIRMED & REPRODUCIBLE] MorePiles causes crash at BlockGroundStorage.cs:line 388

Hello,

Following up on my previous report, we have found the definitive cause and a 100% reproducible method for this crash.

The culprit is the MorePiles mod.

The crash is not caused by a corrupted save file. It is an active code bug within MorePiles when it tries to handle specific loot piles generated by the Better Ruins mod.

How to Reproduce the Bug:

  1. Install MorePiles and Better Ruins.
  2. Locate a "Better Ruins" structure (in our case, it was the type with glass domes).
  3. Approach the loot piles placed inside the ruin by the mod.
  4. Result: The game client instantly crashes with a NullReferenceException at BlockGroundStorage.cs:line 388.
  5. Confirmation: Close the game, deactivate only the MorePiles mod, and reload the world.
  6. Result: You can now approach the exact same loot pile without any issues. The crash is completely gone.

This confirms that MorePiles has a compatibility issue or a bug in how it handles the specific BlockGroundStorage entities created by Better Ruins.

We were able to fully resolve the issue by disabling MorePiles. No save file editing was necessary.

Title: [BUG REPORT] Cross-Mod Crash: NullReferenceException at BlockGroundStorage.cs:line 388

The Issue: We are experiencing a persistent, game-breaking crash. Approaching a specific location (a "Better Ruins" structure in our case) causes an instant client-side crash for all players on the server. This creates a permanent "no-go zone" in the world.

The Cause & Evidence: The crash is always a NullReferenceException at Vintagestory.GameContent.BlockGroundStorage.GetPlacedBlockInteractionHelp on line 388.

This is not an isolated issue. We have found multiple, identical crash logs from different players with different mod lists. The pattern is always the same, pointing to that exact line. The issue seems to be triggered by mods that interact with ground piles, such as Better RuinsMore Piles, and DanaTweaks.

Our conclusion is that a mod is creating a corrupted BlockGroundStorage entity (a "poison" pile) in the world save. When the game tries to read this corrupted pile to display its interaction help, it crashes.

The Workaround: The only way we could fix our save was to manually delete the region file containing the corrupted pile from the save folder. This forced the game to regenerate the chunk, which removed the issue.

We hope this information helps in tracking down the interaction that leads to this block corruption.

Hey I'm unsure and am gonna test more, but for me there's something wrong with charcoal and not being able to stack it normally into cubes. It seems with this mod it only lays down as 4 on the ground and doesn't turn into the classic cube. going to test it a bit and let you know more

I tried to disable the stacking behaviour of sticks (because I think it caused weird behaviour when combined with In-world Thatching? could be something else too) but whenever I change the config "stick": { "Enabled": true, to false, it automatically reverts back to 'true' on a server restart. Other configs don't do this which leads me to believe it's specific to this mod. Do you know what could be causing this, or how I could fix it?

this was working on my 1.20.7 server and then all of a sudden stopped for everyone playing, piles are invisible and my bug net that is sitting on the ground is half invisible. is there a way to fix this?

DanaCraluminum It may be an issue with the vanilla game engine, but the piles of items that cause game crashes are 100% exclusively piles of items that can only be piled up when using this mod; they do not pile in vanilla without the mod installed, and do not cause this crash in vanilla.

I was playing a multiplayer game today (April 10, 2025) where all 5 players in the server crashed as soon as they touched the block a pile of Bones was located on. None of us could rejoin the game, even after restarting the server, it would crash us instantly with the same UI draw call error previously mentioned in the comments. Removing the More Piles mod instantly solved the issue and we were able to continue playing without problem.

The alternative solution is to disable the UI tooltips for block interaction (Ctrl + B & Ctrl + N), but this is only temporary.

My game keeps crashing when i set piles of items (sticks, dirt, bones) on the ground. The crashes occur when i go away enough to not render the piles and when i try to come closer so i get them in my view distance i get crash:

Hm okay, I think the issue I have is with the loot spawns from the Primitive Survival furrows. Just had some sticks from that and it turned into my bowl of food, which would play the eating animation but not actually eat. Throwing it on the ground made it vanish. I guess trying to make a pile out of those ghost items ends up making an empty one.

Adding this mod to an existing save, I had a bone already placed on the floor. I went to pick it up after loading this mod, and my game crashed.

I'm also encountering this "invisible pile" issue. Specifically with fired refactory bricks. The brick pile is visible when not fired, but after firing, they go invisible. I am still able to pick them up, but its weird.

I often get empty piles when trying to place down dry grass which I then have to "break" by hand.

Edit: Picked up more grass and the old one vanished. So it causes ghost items and I guess eats the real ones.

I'm running into the same error as AphoticAri did in the danatweaks comments where some piles placed the vanilla way turn invisible and can cause a crash when More Piles is installed and tooltips is on. However the piles I had an issue with are in new chucks with BetterRuins and More Piles installed, some of the ruins generate with these invisible vanilla piles that can crash the game. Exploring these certain ruins has become a bit of a minefield of potential crashes. Disabling More Piles reveals these vanilla piles (which in my case were sticks) and no crash occurs when looked at with tooltips. Disabling tooltips prevents the crashes but this does mean that there is seems to be minor incompatability between More Piles and Better Ruins at the moment.

I was confusing this with other,. now outdated pile mods that piled clay like coal. I think that would be neat to be incorporated into this mod, but I think an easier way to do it would just be to have a recipe to reverse clay bricks back into clay. So you could stockpile clay into raw bricks, and then recycle the bricks as needed.

I'm also running into the bone problem. I sorted out the FixPlacement key, as well as setting CtrlKey to true - this ends up returning a "placefailure-" message when attempting to place via ctrl+shift right click. Knapping via shift right click still works though.

yea im using butchering too and cant pile bones. its normal : butchering makes u able to knap bones for pickaxe, needle and arrow : unfortunatly it overides the more piles functionnality :(

Regarding the bone knapping from Butchering... Is it possible to still have bone piles by ctrl+shift+right clicking, without affecting the knapping with shift+rightclick? At the moment it seems impossible to store bones on the ground.

After two years away from the game, your mods were the very first I wanted to install—this one most of all.

I can’t thank you enough for bringing it back to life. It’s modders like you who keep Vintage Story fresh and exciting, and I honestly wish the developers did more to recognize that. The ability to stack sticks seems to be broken in v1.19.8. I tested this by creating a creative world with only this mod installed.

On one hand, i understand it is your mod and you have final say..... that being said, i feel like removing stackable sticks and bones from your mod because vanilla added in the ability to place 4 tiny sticks in a hole is absolute the wrong decision. stacks of sticks are easier to use then having 4 tiny sticks take up an entire block space. i say give the best of both worlds and have version with and one without the sticks.

DanaCraluminum I run six servers- universally the players in each all rely on this mod for stacking sticks and bones. While you may no longer support it (this is your mod, that is your choice, it is valid, and I won't criticize you for it), this mod is specifically used for stacking sticks, bones, twine, and flax. I don't host 1.19.x servers due to server crashes and bugs, but once the servers becomes stable we'll have to use my fork for it in the long run.

It seems this mod causes some interactivity issues in 1.19.x variants. If there's anything I can do to assist with debugging, let me know.

So the Butchering mod uses LShift + RMouse for Bone Knapping while placing bones in this also uses it. Could you change it to LCtrl + LShift +RMouse by defaul please. Thanks in advance!

Really really sad you stopped with the Sticks. This saved a lot of space in my chests and looked very good. I would love if you bring back the stack of sticks. Please consider doing it. I was really loveing it.

1.19-rc6 seems to have broken part of this mod. Previously we had big stacks of sticks and bones on my server, but when we logged in after updating from rc5 to rc6, suddenly they were just single placed sticks/bones, no more piles. We can no longer place them in piles. I poked at a vanilla copy of rc6 and it looks like we can now place sticks and bones on the ground as part of the vanilla game, and presumably this is overriding the piles. Not sure if there's any way you can fix that. I much prefer being able to stack them - placing them takes up so much space! (Thanks for the great mods by the way. I think we really should be able to place and pile everything in the game. It's perfectly realistic, after all!)

I believe Aksyl is referring to the Butchery mod, as it adds bone "knapping" (or "carving" as the author puts it) to craft rudimentary pickaxes and bone arrows.

For what it's worth, More Piles has a config file you can edit to disable the pile placement for bone, which should allow it to be placed for knapping/carving again. :) Hope it helps!

I've noticed an issue between this and primitive survival (I have yet to diagnose another mod having some effect in the combo)

Primitive Survival allows knapping with bone, and this should allow stacking, but I think they both are cancelling the other's actions out.

Now, I don't need to knap bone in most of my games, so really I'm only being prevented from stacking bone, but still. I don't see anyone else experiencing this issue, however which may indicate another culprit.

ladders place invisible, whether used with vanilla ladders, or with vanilla variants installed. Can no see ladder piles, so I lost 'em after leaving a pitfall. :/ Ah well.

Edit: Went into testing. Chute sections also invisible. Using the 1.18 verion.

This mod is the greatest. Personally, i think the game should have chests and baskets set to 1 slot by default. 

What I would love to see is more piles for all the varieties of nuggets(copper, bismuth, etc.) and chunks(coal, lignite,borax, etc.) that cant be piled right now.

Unfortunately, I think I've found a new bug now. After placing something down into a pile, now I'm unable to add to that pile with just the Shift + Rightclick. If you use Ctrl + Shift + Rightclick though it works fine.

Hey! I just wanted to report that it seems after downloading this and starting a new world, I am unable to knap granite stones - and I'm not sure if it's exclusive to just Granite. I can knap Flint fine, though, but Granite if I scoop up a bunch of rocks, I find I am unable to actually place one down again to knap it. Instead it just adds it to a pile instead, and builds that up. Thanks for your work on this though!

This either doesn't work well with 1.18 (Rc-6 currently), or there's a few visual glitches with the pack that I'd like to fix.

The stacking doesn't really work the same way that vanilla stacking of logs does. For example, if I stack cloth with this mod, it'll visually stack 12 consecutive cloths, but the count will continue to be 12. When you stack logs in-game, the stack visually increments when you add 2 logs, so in total you'll visually have 16 logs only when you have 32 logs in the stack. Changing the ModConfig also doesn't help. If I change stack count to 2 for example it simply adds 2 cloths and will reach the max visual stack at 12 still. Changing the Stack Size also has some glitchy behavior. I'm on the VS discord if you want me to try to update this for you: Axel#8407

Also, I can't seem to be able to stack blocks such as fences, ladders, gates, etc.
