- Better Ruins
- Book Trader
- Hide & Fabric
- Scrolled
- Tailor's Delight
- Wildcraft: Trees and Shrubs
- Wildcraft: Fruit and Nuts
Tweaks To VS
- Book crafting is now a three-step process:
- Craft Signatures from any parchment and tools like a knife
- Craft a Plain Book from signatures and twine
- Craft leather bound books from plain book and colored leather and tools
- With Tailor's Delight, book crafting also requires awls, needles and leather strips.

- Ink & Quill crafting now requires quartz crystals plus hammer and chisel
Items and Tools
Craft new book binder tools and items like:
- Bone or bamboo folders
- Papyrus strips in wet and dry variants
- Rough and smooth papyrus sheets
- Vellum
- Signatures (folded and perforated sheets)
- Plain books
Decorative Items and Blocks
- New Ink & Quill variants - made from colored quartz and precious metals
- New book colors in exquisite designs: White, black, dark blue and dark red
- New blocks like lecterns, book stands etc. - Comming soon!™
New Creative Tab
- A new Library (usable by all mods) groups books and book related content

I am getting an error loading that says powdered gold is needed and not found. Is there another mod I need for that?
The error should only apear if you use Tailor's Delight and not have Expanded Matter - it wasn't supposed to be this way, I'll see that I can fix it in the next release. Sorry!
In the meantime, Expanded Matter should help.
Is there a reason the seashell is consumable? If it is just for smoothing it should last a very long time. Is there a way I can change the setting for this from within the game? I was excited to get into making paper for books with papyrus, but I've only found seven shells after more than 100 hours of playing.
Yeah, I guess it would be fair for the sheel to be returned. I can't really add durability to it (then shells would no longer stack), but maybe I could create a "smothing shell" tool that you craft from anyone shell. Let me think about it and I'll come up with something for the next release.
Thank you for your interest in my work :)
Thank you so much! Bookbinding is one of my hobbies. So far I have no made paper in real life, but I have started growing papyrus and look forward to the process.
Would love to see some sort of compatability with Wanderer's Sketchbook and Collodion where you could insert sketches and/or photos into a publishable book. Wanderer's already has most of the funtionality itself, but it's restrained to being the sketchbook item and obviously no crossover with Collodion. Just the idea of player-made guides and history books makes me excited! Thank you for the amazing mod, as always I enjoy your entire suite ๐
These are all good ideas, I'm not sure Bookbinders being a content-only mod can do this, tho. I'll try to remember this and see what can be done. Thank you for the kind words!
Thinking about it more, I think I'd have to make a compatablitiy/content patch similiarly to how Immersive Fibercraft is related to Tailor's Delight/Wool & More to make it work I think. Been brainstorming today while daydreaming at work lol
Just so you're aware, when we moved to 1.22, better ruins changed their scroll recipes to implement the new mechanics for the consume flag in recipes. This is because the noconsume flag is now considered depreciated. I put a patch for this in my mod (Scrolled), but wanted to let you know here so you know what to fix. It's just a simple consume:false flag on the recipe entries for copying the schematics :). (Love this mod, btw. :) )
Thank you for the headsup! I'm preparing another small release and will include this fix. ๐ฏ
No problem :). Excellent. I'll drop that fix from my update once it has been changed over.
I'm a bit curious as to why the "consume" flag is needed. It seems to work without it? Or is this an optional setting that can be turned on/off?
I've added it nevertheless.
Btw, I've linked your mod from this page - Scrolled is something I've always wanted :)
Oh, consume:false keeps the item from being eaten. The noconsumeoncraft flag that was originally on items is depreciated. It's still on the core schematic, but the dev team told me it was a depreciated flag and we should be using consume:false in recipes rather than making an item noconsume. Better Ruins moved to that in 1.22. And thanks! I'm glad to hear it :). I love all the book mods and your mod is part of my core suite. Glad to hear you like it :)
Thank you for the explanation, I've learned something today :)
I completely understand! This is a pretty great Mod, so I figured it never hurts to ask.
Drahkar It's on my TODO list. Too many things and not enough time :)
I am begging you please, please updated your mod. Our server uses it, and we have over 3000+ pages of player written lore we archived from our old 1.21 world. We are unable to use it, and will lose it if this isn't updated. I know you do a ton for the community, I see you in gamedev doing the lords work. But I implore you to prioritize this, please!
Ouch, wow ๐ฏ I'll output a mod, it will take a few days - there is a heatwave here ๐ค
Just checking on if there are any plans for this being formed to work with 1.22.0? I haven't seen any isues in my testing, but never hurts to check. :)
Neitronus Because vellum and parchment are different things and this mod is about deepening the bookbinding process. I'm sorry if you are just looking for "more easy game content", then my mods are probably not for you.
Anyway, it should be easy to add patches for any mods that use parchment to also allow vellum. Do you have any examples of this?
I'm not sure that this mod is compatible with any cartography mods out there since they are using parchment as an ingredient, and this mod replaces it with vellum. (Why though? It provides no gameplay value, just a rename in fact, while ruining all this neat compatibility.)
captanredbeard graccianno Here is the update, sorry for the long delay!
captanredbeard I'm working on it, sorry for the delay!
Tels any chance on an update for the 1.21 version? I've still got invalid recipes for bowls due to 1.21 changing the bowl itemcode
How are the papyrus sheets used in game? Can you make books with them like parchment?
graccianno Hah, yeah, I should update it. Sorry for the delay! :)
guys, great mod. any chance we get it updated to 1.21?
Artronia This is a very nice idea, but I'mnot sure this could be achieved with a content-only mod.
Quick question/suggestion. Could you make the quills of Rose quartz and Olivine write in different colors? Or atleast fonts? Right now they are fancy for no good reason
(Definitely not complaining because im a bookseller on a server and am having a hard time selling them)
Lumvik The seashell is to smooth and polish the surface, not to add lime to the surface. Powdered lime wouldn't really work for that smoothing :)
Hi, I'd like to know โ is papyrus really supposed to be made with seashells?
Shouldn't it just be lime?
Marlim Not yet, but I have some ideas how to make this possible. Will look at it after I've completed the new Bricklayers release.
Does this mod allow you to use lecterns to position books like Minecraft? It would be useful for servers or villages as a rulebook.
Tels
Ragolution Nice idea, but I don't think this is possible with a content mod like mine.
Kind of a big request, but would there be any way to allow people to transcribe entire books?
Right now you copy one page, which isn't so bad, but if you make a rulebook for a game, or a novel, or something, it can be really challenging to distribute copies.
My thought was to, maybe, allow binding all the pages of a book together as a volume, but I have no idea how difficult something like that would be.
Ragolution Not yet, they are planned for larger books in the future.
Are large signatures used for anything, at this time?
Sorry, release archive got broken and I can't even delete it. 1.3.1 will be released soon.
I just went to see if this mod has any essentials because it's writing an error. And I see that a guy here below me has also mentioned it... ๐
I had an error.
[Error] [bookbinders] File 'ja.json.1' is not in the mod's root folder. Won't load this mod. If you need to ship unmanaged dlls, put them in the native/ folder.
Kasyu52 I'm working on a 1.20 compatible release, hope to publish it soon.
it seems like the folder recipe is broken currently?
Maestro Such an overhaul would require writing code and this is not my area of expertise, sorry. (Also, overhauling GUIs is rather complicated, so double no)
Thranos Vellum is it's own item, so any recipe that accepts parchment would still work (with parchment from linen or bought), but you cannot use vellum in these. If you encounter any mod that has recipes expecting parchment and should also accept vellum, I can easily add compatibility recipes. Please send me the names of such mods in Discord. Thank you!
Will this cause any issues with recipes that expect Parchment, due to the whole Vellum thing?
Is an overhaul of the actual book GUI possible?
