Early Chiseling is a very simple mod that adds a wooden hammer and a flint chisel with which you can chisel before reaching the copper age or higher.
With those two you can only chisel but not craft anything or break chunks to get nuggets!
The idea is of FinkThinker with Wooden Mallet and Lich with Flint Chisel - Stone Age Microblocks! - VS 1.16+ but this time both items are in the same mod, they are a bit more balanced and it comes with language support!
Available languages:
- English | en
- Spanish | es-es
If you translate the mod to another language just send me the .json and language key to add it ^^
Item Stats:
- Wooden Hammer
- Tier: 1
- Durability: 50
- Atack power: 1
- Flint Chisel
- Durability: 100
Q. How can I support the developement of this mod?
A. You can give this mod repository a star(Source Code button at the top of this page, is free) or support me in the links below ^^

Will lead to crashes after the current 1.20 rc.4 patch
gg
Thanks for the quick reply !
AntisocialCat Hihi, is not a mod issue, that's an already reported bug on the game a few versions ago. I'm using the base game chisel class so it has to be reported to devs.
Hello, there appears to be a bug where it doesnt actually destroy the flint chisel but instead it makes it invisible... it will still occupy the player slot and break after breaking 1 or 2 voxels. This can repeat a few times before being fully destroyed.
I've changed my local version of the mod so that it yields only 1 chisel with twice the durability. It's what happened to knapped knive blades in vanilla too. Sure, it doesn't feel as neat while knapping because you visually feel like you waste flint, but it's just neater to produce a single item.
Not a bad idea, I'll change it once I've some free time ^^
Have you thought about renaming the wooden hammer to mallet?
Thx to you for the great idea 😍
And if you want to continue with the developement of your mod you can use this code as it was your idea
Lith
thanks for continuing this :)
I could add an obsidian chisel, but it's what Sachmo and you said, obsidian it's very sharp, and for tools like spears, knifes or arrows it was a very good choice, but it's like cristal as you've said, it breaks when hitting something solid so... if you want I can make it, but it'll have less durability that the flint one to keep it a bit realistic ^^ (and obsidian it's hard to find but flint's appears everywhere)

Fun fact: the people of Rapa Nui, AKA "Easter Island", used basalt chisels to sculpt the famous Moai heads. It was possible to use basalt tools because they were sculpting tuff, which is a very soft rock composed of compressed volcanic ash. They had access to obsidian, but obsidian would just shatter against the tuff, so they didn't really use it for stone carving tools :)
That's fair. I like it as is, then. Perhaps maybe as a recipe for obsidian chisels would make sense. Obsidian is pretty sharp and glass like though, so I doubt it could realistically work as a chisel except for like, only wood/weak materials. Which I imagine is outside of the scope of this mod.
It's possible but I did it this way to balance it.
100 durability x 3 = 300 durability. A copper chissel has 600 durability and you need to find copper, mine it, melt it and then smith the chisel. With the flint ones you just pick a flint off the ground and punch it a few times so, to make the process of copper processing(and other metals too) have its advantages I decided to reduce the total durability of this ones.
Another option could be 70 durability each and 3 chisels for each flint, but you'll need 3 slots to store those chisels instead of 2.

Neat mod, but why not invert the chisel recipe to be able to make 3 chisels at once? Seems possible.
