To offer another idea for solving the issue of 1.17 requiring a hammer for chiseling, I'd suggest perhaps altering the basegame wooden club item to function as a hammer. From a technology perspective, it makes plenty of sense. Prehistoric peoples used small logs as hammers all the time. From a gameplay perspective, it's a good way to bridge the technology gap between early stone age and pre-smithing copper age when it comes to the available toolset, similarly to the antler pickaxe in Lichen. It would also give players a reason to craft the wooden club, which otherwise I've never seen used before, since as a weapon, it's far inferior to stone spears.

Chisel requires at least copper hammer since 1.17 update, so it is no longer playable unless you add flint hammer

@Vinter_Nacht unfortunately that's not in my capabilities, but if anyone feels up to it that is definitely a cool idea.

Could you perhaps see your way to making the flint chisel only work on non-stone blocks?  Be nice for carving wood and the like, but leaving carving stone to higher tier tools.

Considering that this mod only adds in a recipie and nothing else, that seems to be a bug with chisels themselves, rather than this mod, and is best reported to the game devs. The flint chisel adds no new mechanics to the game and is using the base chisel mechanics provided.
