Wilderlands Forests
A utility module within the Wilderlands ecosystem.
This mod's purpose is simple:
Not all forests should feel like walls of leaves.
This mod selectively alters certain tree types to create forests that feel more open, navigable, and visually diverse — while still preserving areas of dense wilderness.
What This Mod Does
-
Modifies specific tree sizes only
-
Creates forests that are:
-
More open
-
More spacious
-
Easier to traverse
-
More visually varied
-
You will still encounter:
-
Dense brush
-
Tight, closed-in woodland
-
Difficult-to-navigate terrain
But you will also find many more forests that feel breathable and natural.
What This Mod Does Not Do
-
It does not apply a blanket tree-size multiplier.
-
It does not increase all tree or brush sizes.
-
It does not modify trees added by other mods.
-
It does not attempt to standardize all forests.
The design goal is diversity, not uniform scaling.
Compatibility
⚠ Important Notice
This mod conflicts with early versions of:
-
Wilderlands Tweaks
Always use the most recent release versions of all Wilderlands modules.
Because this mod only alters specific vanilla tree types and does not touch trees from other mods, there are no meaningful compatibility concerns with mods that add additional tree species.
Future Plans
There are currently no plans to adjust tree sizes from other mods, though this may be revisited in the future.
For now, Wilderlands Forests focuses on improving the feel and navigability of vanilla woodland biomes while preserving wilderness variety.

this mod pretty neat
Swako No. The mod does not have any assets. All it does is make some vanilla trees spawn a bit larger. Removing it will simply result in trees in new chunks spawning at their vanilla sizes.
Would this mod cause problems if removed like other mods that modify world generation?
Dovinya Should be perfectly compatible with any worldgen mod. All this mod does is tweak the sizes of vanilla trees, nothing else.
How compatable is this mod with other worldgen mods? specifically Conquest Landform Overhaul.
Appears to work fine with 1.21.1. Tested over about 2 hours of play, and didn't notice anything abnormal.
Hello, are Wilderland mods compatible with 1.21? Thanks
Love this mod. I can actually mostly run in the woods without fear of dropping in a massive pit that was completely covered in low hanging trees. The only thing I'm kinda on the fence about ( which I would put in the discord but the links arent working for me ) is this mod seems to make only maple trees a bit... funky. I know it is this mod because it is the only mod I have that touches trees. The maples frequently have just a weird shape, usually like a cross or a plus, or just an explosion of logs in random directions. I wouldn't mind this at all but the leaves on them are real sparse and looking at them it's hard to ignore. Not really sure why it would be doing this but other then that been loving it!
RangeCreed Which trees? Because I've not seen much of that. Except on redwoods, which even vanilla redwoods have that going on to a degree.
Thalius
What I mean is some of the larger trees the leave blocks are not directly next to the log they have a 1-2 block gap in some cases and just look like they are floating in the air attached to nothing,
RangeCreed Floating leaves? I've added no new blocks of any kind with this mod. Any floating leaves that remain after a tree is cut would be a vanilla function not removing leaves as it should. Maybe those are a bit more frequent if you are cutting a lot of trees that are larger, but we've noticed no issues or any noticeable increased amount of floating leaves/branches when harvesting trees.
Love the mod however for me personally there are too many floating leaves that are especially noticeable if its windy.
I'm not sure how that works, with growing trees. I altered only worldgen settings, but I'm not sure if those adjustements transfer over.
Are planted trees having a chance to grow into those sizes / forms too, or only those created by worldgen?
YOHarbinger Should not be any conflict. I've used this along side Terra Prety without issue. The only mods this one would confilct with are other mods that modify vanilla tree worldgen values.
Is this mod compatible with Terra Prety?
_epic_fish_ You are correct, and thanks for noticing! Server side only was supposed to be selected.
Thalius Why is this mod marked as “client side”? It changes the world generation, which means that it works on the server side, not the client side.
LoneWolfAlpha42 I feel you!
Forests are pretty. We should be better able to enjoy exploring them. Always having a face full of branches is just... meh.
I also enjoy running around in the woods for reals. Love the outdoors. Mature forests really are much more open than not, although there are climates and forest types that are nearly impossible to navigate due to dense, low branches and undergrowth in tropical areas. I tried to capture more of the open nature of mature forests without removing the possibility of the denser forests as well.
Ooh! Very nice! Having so many forests where the wolves navigate so much better than me and chomp my booty as I'm crashing through the leaves sucks. Especially since I downloaded Ethology too.
It'll be nice to have some forests with room to fight or run.
Very cool. Looking forward to trying this out!
