A WIP: Panning Overhaul is being developed for use on a Wilderlands community server, and aims to balance how panning works in the game.

Panning Overhaul does the following:

  • Removes the ability to pan sand.
  • Nerfs most of the panning drops from normal gravel.
  • Adds a new resource: Rich Gravel, from which players have a decent chance to extract some basic metal nugets and minerals.

Rich gravel spawns as a surface deposit in gravel biomes. It can be a bit hard to find in some rock strata, but is designated by displaying a sprinkling of muted, colorful pixels to indicate the presence of other minerals.

Panning Overhaul does not tweak anything with regard to bony soil.

Purpose of the mod is to primarily and effectively reduce the amount of ore accessible via panning. If you take into consideration the amount of gravel and sand in the world, the amount of ore available via panning is wildy unbalanced. This mod aims to mitigate the availability of ores and minerals via panning, and make panning for ores and such more of a process that requires exploring and seeking out the right medium to pan.

For a proper challenge, I recommend using WIlderlands Panning Overhaul while also disabling all surface copper and tin deposits and using a mod such as Rare Dense Ores.

Compatible with Geology Addons.

Note: Keep in mind when considering this mod that my mod projects are intended to create immersive challenges in the game, and are not designed to make things easier or simpler. Often quite the opposite.

It spawns inside gravel block deposits. In theory, it should spawn anywhere gravel spawns.

I will be taking a look at frequency, though. Some of the other modules I've made are doing a good job reducing the amount of ore deposits in the game, while adding other methods of acquiring ore. Rich gravel could stand to be a tad more common in the world the other modules are shaping.

And keep in mind, these modules are designed with a specific server experience in view.  Still trying to make them reasonably decent on their own though.

You seriously need to make this rich gravel more common. It should be where any gravel can spawn, not just gravel biomes

Jomeaga I'll make a note about the missing rock type.  As for a config to adjust spawn rate of rich gravel, the mod does not have one. You could unzip the file and find the rich gravel JSON in the worldgen folder, then adjust the chances to make it spawn more or less frequently. Here is what that looks like:

{
"code": "richgravel",
"triesPerChunk": 40,
"generator": "disc-followsurface",

Adjust the "triesPerChunk" to get what you are looking for, then zip the folder back up and place it in your mod folder.

Hi! I noticed that with Geology Additions, there seems to be rich gravel for all rock types, however Rhyiolite seems to be missing

Also, what config do I adjust to change the spawn rate of the rich gravel?

Just how rare are they? I spent all day looking yesterday and I haven't found even one so far; I started methodically searching through any fields of gravel I came by, including mousing over the names of their blocks but so far there's nothing at all.

I'm using the river, biomes and cave overhaul mods, so maybe there's some sort of conflict? I know the mod loads properly, because I can find all the rich gravel varieties in the manual (except muddy gravel, seems like; intentional?), but something seems to be wrong.

insideandoutsideThose are referring to loose stone surface blocks, which Rich Gravel does not need. More than likely you are overlooking them. Their color is subtle, and easy to miss in a lot of gravel types until you know what to look for. I have a hard time finding them myself even That just means more careful searching and moving slower, which takes time and can be deadly as moving slow often results in being ambushed. :P

It is not supposed to be easy to find Rich Gravel. Not too hard once you know what to look for, but it does not stand out and is easy to run over and miss if you are in a hurry.

Hi! I love the idea of this, but despite moving around a ton, I've yet to see a single of the rich gravel blocks. I'm new at this game so I've no real clue, but I had a look at the files and I found:

"genSurfaceBlockChance": 0,
"surfaceBlockChance": 0,

in the richgravel.json; aren't they supposed to spawn on the surface?

On average that sounds about right. Sounds to me like some bad luck on the loot roll if you only found those three resources in those quantities. There is a decent amount more on the loot table for Rich Gravel.

Depending on Rich Gravel for your first copper tool is a chore. Doable, but you are going to have to work for it.

What would you like to see for the average copper you get per rich gravel? I searched for half an hour through multiple fields to get 14 rich gravel, from which I get 2 copper nuggets 3 zinc nuggets and 1 gold nugget.
