More Minerals Mod v1.0.2

NOTE: This mod is now obsolete and it's content has been added to the Geology Additions mod, you should download that mod instead of this one as it will be taking over from where this mod left off. More Minerals will be receiving no further updates.

This mod adds an array of new minerals to discover, unearth and exploit. This includes four copper minerals (Azurite, Chalcocite, Chalcopyrite and Tetrahedrite), one silver mineral (Freibergite), one lead mineral (Cerussite) and an iron mineral (Bog Iron). The mod also tweaks Malachite to spawn in chalk. The details on the new minerals are as follows:

  • Azurite is a strong azure blue coloured copper mineral that spawns in the same depths and rock types that Malachite would, it spawns in: Limestone, Chalk and all three Marble types.
  • Chalcocite is a pale blue coloured copper mineral that spawns in the following rock types: Limestone, Shale, Claystone, Sandstone, Chalk, Chert and Conglomerate.
  • Chalcopyrite is a strong bronze-yellow coloured copper mineral that spawns in the following rock types: Andesite, Basalt, Granite and Peridotite.
  • Tetrahedrite is a medium grey coloured copper mineral that spawns in the following rock types: Bauxite, Phyllite, Slate and all three Marble types.
  • Freibergite is a dark grey coloured silver mineral that spawns as a child deposit within Tetrahedrite deposits.
  • Cerussite is a pale cream-brown coloured lead mineral that spawns commonly in the following rock types: Claystone, Sandstone, Shale, Chalk, Chert, Conglomerate, Andesite, Granite, Basalt and Peridotite.
  • Bog Iron is a dark rusty-brown iron mineral that occurs rarely as small deposits in the muddy gravel at the bottom of ponds, swamps and lakes in varying sizes of deposit. As the Bog Iron is obscured by the muddy gravel it's deposited in it may be somewhat difficult to spot unless you have a keen eye! It spawns wherever the rainfall is 40% or over and the temperature is between 1 and 24 degrees C.

Chalcocite, Chalcopyrite and Tetrahedrite can all occur as small, shallow surface deposits similar to those of native copper which also like surface native copper deposits .

From what i have been reading and looking into it seems that the bog iron doesnt have a finished product,
what i will say is that one of the bloomeries only had 4 bog pieces and the other was full which might also have caused an issue.

If you need a list of the mods i can also share them as well.

Moon_Dew It can be used on it's own with no issues, I constructed it to stand alone from other mods but I imagine it wouldn't get in the way of other mods

Is this mod meant to be used by itself, or is it a base for other mods?

WesCookie That's not ideal and not how I intended it to function, I must not have tested it as thoroughly as I'd have liked. I've just uploaded a fix, thanks for the report.

I've noticed that bog iron has a goood chance of dropping nothing when mined. Looking at the code it would appear that this is because its drop chance averages 1 with a variability of 2. This means you can have -1, 0, 1, 2, or 3 drop from the broken deposit, though the -1 just just shows as dropping 0 in game. This means there's a 40% chance of dropping nothing, and 20% chance each of dropping 1, 2, or 3 pieces. It still averages 1 per block broken, but it doesn't feel good at all when you get none 2 out of every 5 blocks broken.

To compare, meteorite drops 4 with a variability of 2 (meaning 2-6 chunks per block) and stone drops as 2 with a variability of 0.5 (meaning 1.5-2.5 rocks per block, though I'm not sure how rounding works in VS).

I think perhaps an average of 1.5 with a variability of 0.5 would work best if you wanted to keep it bog iron a kind of weak source of iron (you still need an average of 5.33 blocks broken to make a single ingot, vs 8), or even just an average of 1 with no variability.

Any plans on adding Cummingtonite?
