Latest release (for outdated Vintage Story v1.20.3):
mechanicalwoodsplitter_1.1.2.zip
1-click install
Works just like a helve hammer except it's for the chopping block and not an anvil.
(I also removed the feature that causes all logs but the first to vanish when using a hopper for automatic input, I mean if you want this mod you're probably too lazy to manually put the logs on the chopping block anyway)
This is an addon for In Dappled Groves (which is the only mod dependency)
Compatibility:
- Wear And Tear (Adds durability to the helve axe)
- Vanilla Variants (including variants for Wildcraft: Trees and Shrubs)

For much of the same reasons your helve axe is useful: combined with the proper chute/hopper combo, this could be automated but instead of needing to split then split again for firewood, you only do it only once.
ElusiveEnigma,
I could probably modify the code to allow for it but...
TheInsanityGod, oh my bad. I must have accidentally downloaded the wrong version. Not sure how I did that when I generally use the 1-click install.
Updating just your mod to the intended 1.1.2 worked flawlessly. It seems like the texture issues were coming from upgrading In Dappled Groves. Thanks for the help!
Novantis, makes sense considering you are using a 1.19.8 version of my mod but a 1.20 version of InDappledGroves.
I don't know about upgrading InDappledGroves, but upgrading my mod to v1.1.2 should help as it is an upgrade specifically for the InDappledGroves version you are already using.
(my mod should only have texture issues when removing Vanilla Variants and/or Wildcraft)
I finally got far enough in my playthrough with MechanicalWoodSplitter_1.0.1 and InDappledGroves-1.20-v2.0.2 to realize that your mod has been throwing errors since the beginning and while the Helvehammer is craftable and powerable it doesn't do anything.
I'm getting this error:
24.2.2025 10:22:16 [Error] [mechanicalwoodsplitter] An exception was thrown when trying to start the mod:

I also tried making a separate save and upgrading both mods to see if that fixed things but it just caused issues with texture mapping, so I'm not sure how I should be upgrading if even possible?
Hey, TheInsanityGod. Is there a means to have this be compatible with the log splitters as well? Using their functions the same as they do with In Dappled Groves, cross blades etc. Feel no need to embark upon this journey yourself. If this is not an interest to you at this time, I am an amateur modder and I am curious if the means that you achieved this mod would also work for that application.

Possible? Yes.
Do I have any intention to do this? No.
is it possible to make this mod a standalone mod?
VaelophisNyx The problem with Linear Power is that it was not updated to 1.19.8 and it's bugged out graphically. It will work but you can't see the saws. I also think that you have to place the block and can't hopper. I does look correct. Might be worth while to see if it can be taken over and added to make a dappled grove automated.
Edit: I just installed and tested and it doesn't work with Dappled Grove installed either. you can't place the block in their sawmill since the recipe is changed by the mod.
This is a feature I requested for IDG in the past. I'm glad someone actually made it!
Now... if only we can find a way to mechanize debarking, so that making lots of support beams isn't as painful as it normally is.
TheInsanityGod - Hit me up on Discord. Glad you put this together. :) And it not working with chutes isn't a bug, it's a feature. I preferred that it worked that way so when I got the bug report I never fixed it.
Linear Motion actually has a mechanical saw!
wojtek16, the only other mod you need is In Dappled Groves.
The blocks aren't actually being placed down, they are being input into a 'chopping block' (from 'In Dappled Groves'). The hopper/chute is just there to showcase that it works with hoppers, since In Dappled Groves has a bug where hoppers/chutes don't play nicely with the chopping block.
Love the mod idea, just wanted to make sure, do we need to install your other mod with the chutes for this to work? it looks like the blocks are dropped automatically no? If not thank you for the mod, is sick!
Hm, well mechanically spealing you'd probably get similar action from the pulverizer frame if you made the actual pounder arms into saws. 🙃
Honestly if you just took and removed the upper frame for the Pulverizer, kept the same latch mechanism and animations and just made the arms into saws you'd have a pretty decent sawmill! We'll ignore how the saws are drawn back down
I've been thinking about it, but it's probably going to take a while before I figure out a good way to do it. This one was quite simple since it's just a copy of the helve hammer remodeld to look like an axe (with a fake anvil interface for the chopping block)
Praise Armok! New mechanical devices?! Holy crap that's awesome!
Is there any plans for a Mechanical Saw as well? 😮
