Tired of your food going bad before you can eat it? You need a Mastodon Trunk!

No, not the nose of an ice age elephant.

This is a trunk that is crafted with a normal trunk, glacier ice, and hay.

It may work a little too well.

I just started playing this game and got the idea when I stumbled across some glacier ice.

Thanks to a comment by Enduriel on the Deep Storage mod for some critical code for this to work properly.

Decay multiplier is 0.01 as show in the code above. If you would like to change this, it is in the file:

assets/mastodontrunk/blocktypes/mastodontrunk.json

Enjoy,

DanekJovax Adding confing or a "fueling" mechanic would require changing this simple content mod into a code mod which implements a whole new class of containers, it's possible but far beyond the scope of this mod as it is.

ph1x Fascinating mod for a badly needed chest!  I think it's a little overpowered as it is by default.  Here's a few suggestions:

1) Add options that are configurable from the Mods Settings menu:
   a - Preservation Multiplier: 0-500 (Default 100)
b - Size of Inventory: 1-27 (Default 27) *It's ok to leave the trunk that size, so no need to change.
2) Make its crafting recipe a little more expensive/harder to acquire:
a - Require specific woods that are more rare (redwood, purpleheart, etc.) and make them logs instead of just trunks.
b - Require any combination of Saw/Hammer/Chisel/Axe in the recipe - implies you have to carve the chest from hewn wood.
c - not require any glacial ice, but allow the chest to take in this material as a "fuel" (similar to medieval expansion) and have that fuel as a slot in the trunk's GUI next to its inventory.

With the above options, this chest would be very versatile, able to match just about any admin's specifications for a long-term storage solution without sacrificing the difficulty of play.

Thanks for the mod, and I look forward to seeing where this goes!

@Joblerone from I understand crock are already in a storage, so placing them in chests or storage vessel doesn't have any beneficial effect. It's a vanilla behaviour. Unless you use cellar ice from medieval expansion mod and place the crock on shelf nearby. I've yet to see a mod change this.

crocks and food in bowls seem to not have their spoilage affected correctly - a dish that had 39 days a few (in game) hours ago now only has 11 days left. i am using ACA+EF (and this is an EF dish) - strangely, my breaded food does not appear to have been affected in this manner. additionally, my chests are stored inside a cellar, as where i live is very very hot

New version released. Fixed Sounds and updated texture to be more blue.

@MRGOOSE, and @LordWolfe: I'm not sure how to make it so that the ice needs to be replenished at this point but I will keep it in mind for future.

@OMGDeadtoast, Glad you like it!

Joblerone I'm not sure they were actually reversed. I think one of them was actually not a trunk noise. I was having a hard time figuring out what sound file I used though, so I just switched it to use the game assets for sounds instead. The open close sounds are now consistent with normal trunks. The other sounds for the trunk are using rock sounds files instead.

Thanks for the feedback.

💬 Joblerone, Sep 14th at 10:01 AM

the open/close sound is reversed - plays open on close, and close on open. not a functional difference, but it reminds me each time i open it

I like this trunk! Great for my single player test kitchen world as I play around with cooking recipes. ^_^

💬 LordWolfe, Sep 8th at 4:23 PM

Ah, the old Medieval Ice chest - reminds me of the cellar ice from Medieval expansion mod, same idea glacier ice plus straw, would cool the whole cellar if placed on stone. Sadly that mod looks like its not being worked on anymore, this looks like a immersive replacment!

Also note that in that mod the ice would melt over time, had to stockpile enough for a whole summer - i think you could also harvest the lake ice.. not sure.

💬 MRGOOSE, Sep 5th at 9:50 PM

i would reccomend adding a way for these trunks to melt their ice

like maybe the sun. or if its not in a cellar

Added info to description.

💬 ph1xAuthor, Sep 5th at 11:28 AM

It is 0.01.

If you want something different, it is just one line to change in the JSON.

What's the decay multiplier? As in, how much does it slow food decay. None of the screenshots, nor the description says.
