Latest release (for Vintage Story 1.20.0 and 1.20.7, outdated):
arrowheads_recovery_fork_v1_1_0.zip  1-click install

A slightly different take than OmegaHaxors's Arrow Recovery (broken arrows drop metal nuggets) and IvanZS's Arrowhead Recovery (all broken arrows drop arrowheads), this mod makes it so that broken flint/copper/bronze/silver/gold arrows behave as in vanilla, iron/meteoric iron/steel arrows behave as in Arrowhead Recovery.

This is a minor tweak that I made for myself but figured maybe other people might share the mindset and enjoy the mod as well.

The reasoning behind this mod is the following:

  • I thoroughly enjoy casting low grade metal arrows with the More Molds mod and don't mind losing the metal. It's sufficient for reloading on arrows in an under-equiped outpost far away.
  • Smithing iron or steel arrows is a large time investment and requires a proper infrastructure (windmill + helve hammer + high tier anvil) even with Knapster and should last long as a result.

Desolae Fixed :)

Desolae No, and I don't know why yet. The mod relies on giving arrows "drops" the same way creatures do, so I'm not sure why that doesn't work anymore.

does this still work in 1.20?

TanjBear Well, to give you an idea, your suggestion is worth several days of work. This mod is just a loot table change and took me around 10 minutes. The description and proper crediting of the 2 other mod authors took as much time as the mod itself. I don't do big code mods.

if you plan to add things or expand this mod i have ideas. All metal arrows can break and be refitted with a new shaft. arrow heads can can be blunted with diferent frequicy between metals. blunted heads can be heated and hit with a hamer to fix them wh no extra metal needed. hitting a rock will always blunt an arrow, dirt sand and watter never will, wood and animals have a chance to. if you miss click and imediatly fire an arrow without fully drawing the wont break or blunt. i do not mod so i have no idea how difficult these would be.

@GmanAmatin The metal should still be recoverable because the metal is still usable, unlike flint which is useless after it shatters.

Hm, while im not so sure about the other metal arrowheads being unrecoverable, they strike as being made by relatively soft metals, and their-fore recoverable, this is nonetheless a useful mod. Thx.

Thanks for this.  I have a similar mindset as yours so glad you made this option
