Better Balance has been discontinued due to it basically being reuploaded code.
That one change you all downloaded the mod for can be found here as a standalone patch.
Better Drifters is a great mod, but a few really bad design choices ruin an otherwise great experience
Here is a custom build of Better Drifters with a few key changes that fix these flaws:
Removed nightmare blade drop. It was overpowered and broke some loot tables
Reinstated the temporal gear drop from Double-Headed Drifters
Low tier drifters have their old "nnn" sound effects reinstated
Higher tier drifters will now use the "ghrough" sound effects
Removed the "ghrough but with reverb" sound effects
Drifters no longer drop excessive amounts of twine
Like seriously, what were they thinking??
What is anyone going to do with that much twine!?
This mod was originally only designed for my single player world but I heard a lot of people on discord complaining about the same few problems expressing them as dealbreakers, so figured I would post it here for people to use on their servers. This version will be removed when the balance issues are addressed in the main mod.
NOTE: Ownership of this mod belongs to Mr1k3 the only reason i'm uploading this as its own mod and not a patch because you can't patch other people's patches nor can you patch over their files after they have already been patched. I don't like uploading other people's work but sadly this is the only way to make it happen. This is a temporary solution.
EDIT: I recognize the irony of this 'temporary solution' still being up and functional two years after its posting. Im as surprised as you are it's still going strong.

Still working great as of 1.19.7
Appears to be working for 1.18.15 with many other mods!
I guess that doesn't matter if it works on 1.18.8. I'll test a little this weekend and hope for the best.

Shouldn't be too hard to port the changes over on your own fork, most of the changes I did was in the JSON level.
Bro I downloaded this mod because of the drifters expansion, the lack of rock throwing was just a bonus. :(
concrete_car
The mod is discontinued and will not be updated to later versions.
It has been simplified into a short patch which you can download here:
https://mods.vintagestory.at/bds
Anyone know if this works in 1.18.8?
OmegaHaxors What you did is no different than when people in ages past took an idea and improved upon it. Like the lightbulb.
@OmegaHaxors Definitely not poor taste, we all support you and this mod. Hope you continue to work on it and update!
OmegaHaxors it wasn't created in poor taste my dude.
you fixed the flaws of what was otherwise a good mod... you realized its potential. i really do hope you reconsider.
if it makes you feel any better about it, the original modder has basically abandoned it.
OmegaHaxors
Poor taste? How so?
ChadStevens
This fork is not compatible with later versions, please use the official branch.
I will no longer maintain this because i'm realizing that it was created in poor taste.
It's broken in 1.18 Drifters spawn excessively and then all disappear after 15 seconds or so
Does this still work with 1.18?
I love this mod! I think it overwrites the "Temporal Fragment" drops from Ruststones mod. I can add them myself using creative mode, I guess. Would've been great if it was compatible, though.

I don't know anything about the discrepency between singleplayer and multiplayer.
In theory the two should work exactly the same, but clearly something's not quite working properly.
All of the code is copied directly from Better Drifters, and modified to work as a standalone. It's possible this is a Better Drifters bug??
It functions flawlessly in a single player world using the exact same list of mods that the server is running, is the thing.
I'm really not sure what might be going on here, but I don't think it's a mod conflict. Probably.
Is there anything to setting it up server-side beyond putting the .zip in the mods folder that might affect the model change?
Thranos
It's possible you have a mod conflict. Better Drifters (and by extension, this mod) uses this following patch to redirect the shapes from the vanilla ones to the new ones
{"op": "replace",
"path": "/client/shapeByType/*-tainted/base",
"value": "betterbalance:entity/land/drifter/spiked1",
"file": "entities/land/drifter.json"},
so anything that changes those values will potentially cause it to not function.
I have it installed clientside and on the server I'm running, but the models don't seem to be appearing despite this OmegaHaxors
Even locally added it to the "mods by server" folder on my side.
Thranos
Make sure everyone has the mod installed. Model change is a client side thing.
The model changes don't seem to be working in multiplayer, everything else is, though.
Yanazake I might bring the blade back in a future update, but it will be far rarer and with worse stats.
But honestly it's such a poorly designed item that i'm not exactly in a hurry to bring it back any time soon.
The lack of blade drop is the ONLY downside tho. This is clearly a better option
Yanazake Download the original if you want to see the blade. This is just a fork for people who don't want the OP stuff.
XammeR2277 It adds no worldgen so it's safe to add to or remove from an existing world.
So this makes them spawn less, but with more danger added to the mix and better drops as well as more variety?
NOW I'M CURIOUS. I kinda would like the op weapon tho.
Can this mod be added to already generated world, or you need to generate new one?
I mistook the twine, for the fibers and reversed the roles, I was literally thinking; "This man removed a key ingredient and a key item drop from Drifters, what a mad man"
*Then it clicked when I joined my game. I'm glad I can break my legs again.
Nice, really missed this mod in my current playthrough
Oh, okay. As long as I'm getting some flax every now and again I'm happy.
LadyBlakeHammer
It does.
l33tmaan
I removed the flax twine drop completely, but it still drops the fibers at a boosted rate.
Do they still drop SOME twine?
A reply to your comment on the Better Drifters mod;
Does this include the textures of the drifters, I'll gladly use this if my legs get broken, and they look the part doing so. <3
