This is a simple(ish) mod to add spawn conditions for rust beasts blown in by temporal storms.
These changes should allow for saftey indoors during temporal storms, without resorting to arcane organizations of rock piles.
Light and distance values configurable as needed.
The following checks are added for creatures spawned by temporal storms:
Minimum Distance: Prevents spawns within a given distance of any player. Default value is set to 12.
This mod only affects drifters spawned by temporal storms. For other surface drifters, check out Drifters belong underground by Sotakebk!

Nightwolf That's pretty much what I noticed too, first storm and everything was dandy, then a bowtorn spawned in front of me, inside and in the light, and I beat the living crap out of it. Only bowtorns so far though.
GayCat I can't say for @Krutchen's experience but these spawns inside only happen during a temporal storm. And for some reason, it is only bowtorns that are spawning inside where the light level is high enough to stop the spawning according to the conditions in the mod. Meanwhile, outside the house, drifters, bowtorn, and shivers are all spawning from the storm. I didn't pay attention to every bowtorn spawned, but I am pretty sure the majority of the ones spawning inside like this are corrupt/nightmare ones and not the other variants.
Krutchen, Nightwolf :
Haven't had anything like that come up in testing... are you sure these are temporal storm spawns, and is the mod enabled on the server?
Regular spawns might be an issue - we don't touch the logic for those - but this mod does still add conditions to the only path we see that temporal storms can spawn creatures through.
GayCat Could you double check that this is affecting Shivers and Bowtorns properly? I actually had the same experience as Nightwolf with a Bowtorn spawning on top of me.
I was wondering if this is supposed to work on servers and if so, does it only work to block drifters and shivers from spawning? I noticed a lot of bowtorn (specifically nightmare and corrupt) spawning inside a lit building.
oh think lordy, i my first storm was basicly me returning and regiving my self what i lost (changed from non offical to offical ownership of the game) so in creative, but i had drifters spawning RIGHT at my face even though i had a campfire goin for part of the storm and they was at face. given nowadays we have bowtorn and shivers to deal with, this mods a must. (ngl its horrifing how fast shivers are. like god dam)
NinjaKid225 thank you! updated accordingly.
our mod currently only tests block light, so sunlight shouldn't affect storm spawns at all ^×^
It seems to be working on 1.20.11, only drifter that spawned in my house was a natural one, didn't check outside to see if they spawned though, would be awkward if they didn't spawn outside cuz of the sunlight lol
NinjaKid225 yes! Tested a couple hours ago. Waiting on the 1.20.11 flatpak to verify that one as well, but breakage isn't likely.
Is this mod up to date enough for use (v1.20.10)? Just want to be sure if so or not. Thank you!
GayCat, we were at the time using:
However, it's not happened since, I'm fairly sure at this point it was just a weird fluke and an interaction with another mod or a base-game bug. It went away after a reinstall, and it hasn't cropped up since.
We've been running the mod for the last few days on our dedicated 1.20.3 server (The Long Years) and it's been solid, so thanks a lot for the great mod! We've had a few temporal storms and it worked exactly as advertised.

currently we only check block light value, not sunlight. have been considering adding another option to choose what types of light the check cares about, but haven't sat down to do it yet. honestly wasn't entirely sure sunlight was even a thing during time storms, just eye strain from the shaders.

Absolutely no idea how any code in this mod could cause anything to do with time scale to change. The only thing we can possibly think of would be config loading, but the concept that us doing something wrong loading our mod's config could change the behavior of base game configs is daunting to say the least.
Was Weather the Storm the only mod installed on your server? If not, a mod list would be dearly appreciated. Was there evidence of client/server time desyncs? Our workspace is a bit jank at the moment so it's difficult to test issues with dedicated servers, but we'll definitely try and check this out while putting together the next release.
And thank you for letting us know something is up! Even if it ends up magically being someone else's fault (🤞) it's good to know this can happen!
Does the mod still allow them to spawn in sunlight, or does it prevent all spawns during daytime?
We may have found a bug with this on our server (running 1.20.3) related to timescale. On our server we like having long days, and we use a timescale of 0.125 (about 3 IRL hours per day), set using /time calendarspeedmul 0.125
After installing this mod, we noticed time started to tick by really fast. Assuming that it just caused this scale to reset, we re-applied the command, which now converts to a few minutes URL = 1 in game day.
We had to change the timescale down to 0.006 to get it back to the "normal" scale, and uninstalling the mod didn't fix it. However, reinstalling it after setting the timescale did correct it again.
No idea what is happening under the hood, and I'm not 100% it's this mod, but it matched us installing/uninstalling/reinstalling this mod.
We'll leave it running for a while and see how the storms behave.
KINTIN3549 mod should work without changes on 1.20.3 and future versions until something is changed again with temporal storm enemy spawning. Unable to test it ourselves at this moment, but if someone can confirm it working on 1.20.3 we'll gladly add the tag!
will this mod be updated to 1.20.3?
Fantastic! I can play with temporal storms on now. Thanks for your hardwork!
apologies for the delay!
Weather the Storm seems to be working with versions after 1.20-pre7 now.
if you find any more issues, the mod's issue tracker is the best way to get our attention!
Thank you so much for working on 1.20 version
oh! of course! a bit embarassed we didn't see this until just now.
might be a little while 'till we can get to it, but it's on the to-do list now!
thanks for the heads-up! ^w^
Version 1.20.7pre made some changes to what can spawn in storms, and thus broke this mod. Any chance we could get an update for it?
Without there being ANY countermeasure to tempstorm spawns poofing into your house, this fix is just a must-have.
Either'
the devs have to make something semi-expensive and consumable to guarantee safety close to it throughout the storm, (which also adds a sense of urgency to keep preparing one for the next storm.)
or they should just change these settings for vanilla already.
It's very strange for this game to not have this by default. so thank you very much for making this mod.
Reverhaus glad to hear this's been useful to others ! enjoy :3
This is the mod I was waiting for a long time! Thx
