BackpackPack is a mod intended to be a successor to "QOL Tweaks- BetterBackpacks", it is designed to fill in gaps in the backpack progression and even drastically increase the base games backpack capacity with the plus version. It replaces all of vanillas backpack recipes with improved versions and adds some early and late game backpack progression.
Heres my patreon if you'd like to support me: Patreon
This mod has two versions- "BackpackPack" and "BackpackPackPlus"
THIS IS THE STANDARD VERSION
The normal version keeps the storage capacity of vanilla backpacks and keeps the newly added backpacks in line with those numbers.
The second, or "Plus" version uses numbers similar to the original "QOL Tweaks Betterbackpacks" mod meaning backpacks give you much more storage that is about double of the base games numbers. located here: PlusVerion
Use the normal version if you like vanilla storage numbers, and use plus if you like huge inventory sizes.
Backpack Progression:
(Quantity slot amounts are shown as PLUS version, N/A to standard version)
Grass pouch:
Very early game solution, niche use when you cant find enough cattails, has recipe to reclaim ingredients.
Basket:
Slightly more expensive, has recipe to reclaim all cattails minus rope.
Hunter backpack:
Uses raw hides now, can now use 2 small raw hides as well. Easier to create now so its competitive with linen sack.
Linen sack:
Slight cost increase, can reclaim 4 twine back with recipe.
Mining bag:
Same changes as linen sack for consistency, can reclaim plates with recipe.
Backpack:
Slight increase in cost, can reclaim 8 leather used.
Reinforced Backpacks-
Bronze:
Can reclaim plates.
Iron:
Can reclaim plates.
Steel:
Can reclaim plates.
Temporal rift:
Can't upload any more images but that purple thing has a recipe and uses a temporal gear and diamond.
Storage Numbers:
Mod is usable on existing worlds, however backpacks existing before the mod was installed and across the two versions will need to be replaced (by re-crafting or spawning them in), or re-mapped if you know how to do that, to have their storage numbers be updated.
The two versions are exclusive to each other, as they have different mod id's so if you load a world that had the standard version with the plus version the other versions items will simply cease to function, but the currently loaded version will work fine, you may want to refund the cost of the items though if you make the switch intentionally. You wont loose the items from mistakenly loading the wrong mod though, just load back up the version you had when you made the items and they will function as normal and items inside the packs will return.
Character backpack graphics (as in being shown on the back) seems to be buggy for some reason, if you want your backpack to show on your back you will have to re-log ore wait a while otherwise nothing will show up on your back, seems to be some issue with the base game.

Love this mod, but find it a little frustrating to need to scroll inside the inventory to see the extra space (for the larger backpacks).
Is there a way for this mod (or a different one) to expand the actual inventory window to make space for the extra slots?
Just a balance note-- since bronze can be especially hard to find in some worldgens and is a bottleneck to progression in vanilla vintage story that can be almost entirely skipped with no problems (buy a bronze pick, find a tin ingot for an anvil, advance to iron) I would find this mod more enjoyable (and find it more balanced to vanilla) if there was a way to skip the bronze backpacks. I am going to have to destroy my bronze anvil to make enough tin for backpacks, and it feels silly, because I have lots of iron, and for anything else in vanilla, I could just skip the tin step entirely. Take it or leave it, thats my thought! Thanks for reading.
Still works for 1.19.8 with over 80 mods. I tested it thoroughly. Would be good if you'd update the "For Game version" Tab, so people can see it.
Seems to work for 1.19.7
Will you update this for 1.19? Does anyone know if the previous version works fine?
What are the backpack stats in the "standard" version?
Using mod version 1.0.3 on VS version 1.18 pre 6 seems to be working for me so far
I would love an update to this mod with more backpack tiers and stuff!
Such an amazing mod!
It doesn't seem to work on 1.17.9. Crashes the game.
Can someone confirm if this still works?
Hey. I really like the idea of this mod. Is it possible there would be a version of this that is configurable in the future?
I fear even the standard version would be a bit strong for my tastes, too strongly reducing reasons to bring any chests or do prioritization when going on longer expeditions.
I would love it if there was a configurable version or a version that only increased slot amount by 1 for each progression tier after Backpack.
Also, do you have plans for a copper reinforced backpack inbetween the Backpack And Bronze Reinforced backpack?
Any plans for tiers of mining backpacks?
Is working on 1.17. An update is planned.
pls add copper nugget pattern variant to backpack
1.0.3:
Will this be updated for 1.16? I hope so
I had the same upgrade problem. I fixed it by running these commands:
/iir remap backpackpackstandard:backpacksteel backpackpackhardcore:backpacksteel force
/iir remap backpackpackstandard:backpackiron backpackpackhardcore:backpackiron force
/iir remap backpackpackstandard:backpackbronze backpackpackhardcore:backpackbronze force
/iir remap backpackpackstandard:blackhole backpackpackhardcore:blackhole force
/iir remap backpackpackstandard:core backpackpackhardcore:core force
/iir remap backpackpackstandard:grassbasket backpackpackhardcore:grassbasket force
Mr1k3 I have reinstalled the older version, emptied my backpacks, and reinstalled the latest version with the same results. In the end, I threw the odd packs in a box and briefly entered creative mode to grab a few new backpacks. I'll check on those in the future should you update your mod while I'm still in this play-through.
Thanks for the help. Hopefully no one else is having this problem, but I suppose the simple fix is just to spawn in new ones from creative.
Abed thats really strange, I checked the other versions and I never went live with the "backpackpackhardcore" mod id, the mod db wont even let you upload diffrent mod id's under the same post. somehow that experimental version got out there. anyways to fix it you could just use the previous version you had and take all your items out of the packs before updating then you'd need to spawn the new id backpacks in, or you could go into the modinfo.json and change the line 9 "ModID" from "backpackpack" to "backpackpackhardcore" as a temporary fix, only issue is if you keep running with that version it would still be incompatable with servers/new versions, until you do the whole take items out, change version then spawn in new packs. let me know if you need any more help.
The update broke my backpacks

Thanks for the heads up, had two tabs with each version up and tried to upload the difrrent zips at the same time, it even showed up in the files so it must be a quirk with the moddb.
You, uh, appear to have not uploaded the actual file for 1.01 standard. Just as a heads up
1.0.1-
-added ability to place down bags on the ground like in vanilla (thank you Craluminum2413 for the heads up)
-removed rope requirement from baskets
-can now reclaim 2 small hides from hunter backpacks
