Purpose

This mod was created to help people, who are experiencing discomfort while playing, after the introduction of a new first person animation system in 1.19 version of the game. While it doesnt bother most people, it is a real problem for those affected by motion sickness or hypersensitivity.

The goal is to recreate the old animations in the newly added system, making it simpler and less intense, like it used to be before the change. It also eliminates the out of sync issue with some animations, like when using shovel or axe, where the audio and visuals didnt match properly.

What it does

The mod replaces only a single json file, where our character's animations are stored. The changes were made mainly to the first person variants of animations, without making changes to third person animations - with exception of fixing an issue in some cases, where the animations were endlessly repeating for some reason.

This mod operates only as a theme mod, and should be safe to use in existing saves and also in multiplayer.

The changes were made to the specific first person animations, like: sprinting, idle, landing (creativefly), panning, holding item in one hand, holding item with both hands, using and hitting with: knife, axe, shovel, pickaxe, hoe, prospecting pick, oar, hitting with empty hands, hitting with block or item, placing a block - and also edits to specific idle and ready animations for shovel and axe

To do

While most of the intense animations received a change, there are still a few animations variants that could be improved, like: eating, aiming with spear, character emotes, and others that i may have missed.

What couldnt be fixed

Bobbing

I encountered a problem with bobbing option in the new system. It is a little bit more jumpy than it used to be in 1.18, and it also seems that it is directly linked not only to the camera bobbing, but also to the item bobbing while walking.

In 1.18, when you turned off the bobbing option, the camera will stop going up and down, but you still would experience a slight bounce animation of held item, when walking. In 1.19, when you turn off the bobbing - not only the camera bounce stops, but also the item bounce stops entirely.

Would be great to have an option to adjust it separately - and also to have control over how intense the bobbing bouncing is - but it seems like it is something that could be only changed through code.

If you are a coder and could help with this issue - your help would be appreciated, thanks!

Hands visibility

In 1.18, only the item/block visuals were rendered on screen in first person. In 1.19 it is not a case anymore, and i couldnt fix it myself - fortunately there is already a mod for disabling rendering of hands, that can be used alongside this mod, that you can find here: https://mods.vintagestory.at/nohandsfp

Closing words

I probably wont add any new changes to this mod - honestly i lost motivation for it, and just returned to playing 1.18 once again. But i wanted to release it, as promised before. Hope this mod helps a bit everyone affected by similar issues with the new animation system.

It is not perfect, but it should help with most of the animation problems that were reported. If you have some questions, you can always contact me on discord, under the same name - nheve.

Feel free to use and edit the mod as you want, just mention my name somewhere too. Thanks!

Thanks also to SalieriC for reporting the similar issue and giving the motivation in finishing the mod!

Rasvangr Thanks for reporting the problem, and for the nice words. I fixed it and uploaded a new version - it seems like the animation length had to be longer for some reason. Hope it all works now!

PlutoMaster Thank you as well! Yes, there were some issues with repeating animations in vanilla game - glad to hear this mod helped in this case too. Hope it will get fixed in the future VS updates.

Hello! It looks like this mod might be causing some sort of conflict with smithing. I was completely unable to use a hammer to smith, swinging the hammer wouldn't do anything to the voxels. Disabling this mod fixed it but I'm also running a lot of mods and it could be linked to another mod as well. Other than that the mod works great and I like it a lot! If you're interested in fixing it and need more info let me know. Thank you for your work!

Thank You! Your work is greatly appreciated!
I liked the new animations but the infinite hand waving bug was making it unplayable for me.
You Rock!
