Mod is intended for large servers with lots of deforestation and is not at all balanced for singleplayer (though you're totally free to use it in singleplayer of course).

From my time spent playing on multiplayer servers I've noticed that over-time forests very quickly get deforested. Either due to people cutting down trees without shearing the leaves for seeds, or just not having enough seeds to reforest land. This is especially problematic when multiple people on a server want to build with hard to propagate wood such as ebony. This mod just applies a patch to increase the droprate of seeds from leaves.

You can adjust the drop rates by just changing the amounts in assets\wlts\patches. Mod is entirely server-side.
NOTE: As of the latest version there are now two versions of the mod, the rates for each can be seen below. 1.0.0 is simplier while 1.0.1 attempts to reballance the rates per tree.

VERSION 1.0.0 RATES BELOW:

Non-Branchy Leaves: 0.01 - 0.05 ⇾ 0.09

Branchy Leaves: 0.01 - 0.15 ⇾ 0.2

Narrow Leaves: 0.16 ⇾ 0.35

Bamboo: 0.08 ⇾ 0.15

VERSION 1.0.1 RATES BELOW:
Bamboo is still 0.15

Readjusted drop rates after feedback from players on my server. Individual trees now have different drop rates. Drop rates are still more than vanilla BUT they should be a bit more balanced for certain trees, some received a buff to their old drop rate and some had their drop rates lowered. Description updated to reflect this. You can still use the older version of the mod in the latest version if you prefer the old rates!

Love this mod, will wait patiently for an update

TopOnPC, Apr 27th at 8:02 PM

Is this mod being updated to 1.22? Thank you!

@TopOnPC: Is this mod being updated to 1.22? Thank you!

Yes, will be uploading a newer config with adjusted values as well that is a bit more balanced. Everytime I host a server I adjust the values a tad more from player feedback.

@Beedy: Is the mod incompatible with the current version 1.22.2?

Probably, it doesn't appear anything has really changed with the json's this patches.

I cut a few trees and I'm certain the mod isn't taking effect. Thankfully, at least it isn't crashing the game when I cut trees.

I'll take a look later today, there's a chance something broke it. Though it should be noted if you are using another mod that adds new trees or affects the old tree leaf json files then they might be overwriting my patches.

Rythillian , Dec 13th 2025 at 11:55 PM

Herbs89408 Heya currently the mod does not after wildcraft trees. I've been meaning to add it but never got around to doing it. Sorry about that! Perhaps I'll get it updated to do so though.

Rythillian , Dec 13th 2025 at 11:54 PM

Ressk I'll take a look and see if it broke on that end, strange that it isn't loading since it's just a json mod. But I'll take a look!

Herbs89408, Dec 3rd 2025 at 3:05 AM

Is this compatable with the wildcraft trees and shrubs mod? I don't seem to get much seeds from the trees on that mod.  😪 i play single player 1.21.5

Ressk, Nov 29th 2025 at 7:49 PM

Server on v1.21.5 doesn't seem to be able to load this mod, it doesn't show up outside the file list when booting.

Rythillian , Nov 22nd 2025 at 7:21 AM

Daquice It should still work!

Daquice, Nov 21st 2025 at 1:22 PM

Anyone used this mod in 1.21.5? Is it still working in other words?

Hewholurks, Sep 28th 2025 at 3:15 AM

I saw it asked but I don't think I ever saw an answer to this. How compatible is it with Wildcraft Fruit & Nuts? Since they add in trees and such?

NukoSan, Sep 14th 2025 at 9:33 AM

More seeds = more opportunities to overgrow things. This way we could have a balance :-) game's 40% success rate sounds about right 😁

Rythillian , Sep 14th 2025 at 3:32 AM

NukoSan That's a very good idea! But probably better for a seperate mod, that way it can be combined with mods like this (or not combined).

adres4t, Sep 11th 2025 at 6:49 PM

NukoSan I was thinking about similar idea some year ago while playing on a server. My father was (still is) growing trees from seeds that he found or collected himself and we planted those later on our land. I bet there is someone else who thinks this is a good idea for a mod and make it happen 😉

NukoSan, Sep 11th 2025 at 4:39 PM

not a modder so cudos to you for making the world a better place, question about the mod (added feature), how difficult would it be to make the seeds randomly (or not so randomly) fail, similar to planting fruit trees? This would balance the added seeds and create the need to have "tree nurseries" to grow trees above a certain threshold, dig them up and plant them elsewhere. Just a concept ;-)

Rythillian , Sep 1st 2025 at 6:53 AM

Yeah it should work for the considerable future unless new trees are added, which if they are I'll update the mod of course!

NylonCat, Aug 26th 2025 at 6:40 PM

Running mod version 1.0.1 (1.20.12) on the new 1.21 stable version and it seems to work fine. Tested shears on redwood & walnut, was getting far more seeds than vanilla would have given in both cases.
I have still only found a single ebony tree cluster in 300 hours of playing and its thanks to this mod i was able to farm the darn things and build a nice room out of the planks!

Rythillian , Jun 10th 2025 at 6:45 AM

Riffz Are you using sheers or invidivudally breaking leaves with an axe? If you just chop down the tree normally you won't get more seeds. We get a ton of seeds on my server and other test servers.

Riffz, Jun 7th 2025 at 8:15 PM

I was finding that it was still pretty difficult to get seeds to drop on a rather heavily modded 1.20.11 when I was originally using a different mod.  I pivoted to this mod and also had issues so I went and tweaked the hard coded settings in the config file and I'm actually netting seeds now.  Any chance that these values can be pulled from a config file rather than needing to be edited in the zipped json files?

Rythillian , May 14th 2025 at 9:38 PM
Ensorcelled, May 14th 2025 at 8:35 PM

Hey, since they nerfed the tree vine drops, could you add something into this that checks attached vines and drops them?

I just don't understand why they add all these nice vines, then nerf the auto-drop for them.  LOL

/EDIT oh? took a look, THANK YOU! missed this one somehow?

CKitt, May 8th 2025 at 6:31 PM

Still working fine on 1.20.10.

Ultor, Feb 20th 2025 at 2:01 AM

On 1.20.4, ran the mod from a fresh download, saw no change in drop rates from vanilla, ran a test by editing the rates in the mod files, set all value fields to 1.0 value broke 10 birch leaves on th eground (not a tree) with a knife and every leaf block dropped a seed. Cut down a maple tree and got about 6 seeds not sure if the tree had more than 6 leaf blocks though but the boosted rate did help

If any one having issues or the author wants to modify the download file, I think it just needs the Value figure bumping up a little to increase the drop chance. maybe make the normal leaves increase from 0.09 value to 0.2 or 0.3 if you dont want too many seeds.

Guessing in vanilla either the drop rate has been reduced or the formula for calculating drop chance has changed causing the mod to have significantly reduced drop rates as well

Rythillian , Feb 17th 2025 at 2:30 AM

I'll take a look to see if it needs to be updated Kaisel_Noir

Kaisel_Noir, Feb 6th 2025 at 4:13 AM

Catulo

How did you get it to work on 1.20.1? I installed it, and it didn't give me any errors but I don't think its working, the droprate is abysmal

Catulo, Jan 27th 2025 at 4:19 AM

Kattifnatt I got it to work on 1.20.1

Kattifnatt, Jan 22nd 2025 at 6:18 PM

Has anyone tried if this still works in 1.20?

ThornWitch, Jan 18th 2025 at 3:22 PM

Hey,  dont mean to bother. but will this be updated to 1.20? It is one of my favorite mods right now.

BebRav3, May 2nd 2024 at 4:35 PM

Rythillian

Im probably the wrong one in this scenario. Not sure how many tree seeds to expect when cutting down trees, but when cutting birch/pine/larch, I have a BARELY positive seed collection (as in i have like 1-2 seeds left over after cutting down and replanting 7 trees). and this fluctuates. 0 seeds to 3 seeds are all possible according to my flawed memory. what should I be expecting? are my expectations too high?

The mod definitely works with breaking leaf blocks

Rythillian , Apr 30th 2024 at 3:30 AM

I thought it did work with cutting down trees normally, though I think it's a reduced rate. I know for certain it works with shears or individual leaves, I'll take a look at it BebRav3

BebRav3, Apr 28th 2024 at 11:35 PM

This doesnt seem to work when you fell the entire tree. I havent seen any seed increases when i cut down rarer trees. Is that intentional? does the mod only function when breaking individual leaves? can i change that?.

NVM. packaged mod wrong.

NVM. no improvement on cutting down trees after correctly packaging mods

update 3: idk anymore.

VaelophisNyx, Feb 13th 2024 at 1:25 AM

doesn't seem to effect Wildcraft: Trees in 1.19, unfortunately.

KoboldRanger, Jan 23rd 2024 at 2:12 PM

This appears to be working fine for me in 1.19. The mod manager doesn't complain about it either

CKitt, Jan 22nd 2024 at 1:26 PM

I would also love to see this updated to 1.19, for what it's worth. It once again feels like a bug, to be simply unable to propagate many tree species.

Necromangel, Jan 19th 2024 at 11:50 AM

Bonjour, allez-vous mettre à jour ce mod vers la 1.19.3 ? Merci d'avance

Mendall, May 23rd 2023 at 6:12 PM

This is a great mod even if it is vanilla only. I have not even tried getting seeds from the wildcraft trees, so I wouldn't know the difference if it did. But as for "If it doesn't work I can update it to include those leaves!" don't bite off more than you intend, wildcraft has a LOT OF TREES.

Rythillian , May 23rd 2023 at 3:38 PM

You have to open the zip itself, you can then either just edit the patch directly or unzip and rezip it. The patches list off each tree type individually so it should be easy to read. Hope that helps! Mobius

Mobius, May 23rd 2023 at 5:57 AM

Cool! And just one more question, when I add the mod to a server, I can't find the "assets\wlts\patches" you describe... I can go to assets/survival/patches, but inside of there is no file that allows me to adjust the mod. I'm using g-portal as a host with filezilla if that helps.

Rythillian , May 23rd 2023 at 4:17 AM

I will have to check to see if this is compatible with wildcraft trees. It depends under what leaf catargory wildcraft uses. The mod does include a change to any leaves under * meaning all others, so it sholuld work but no guarntees till I check to make sure. If it doesn't work I can update it to include those leaves! Mobius Mendal

Mobius, May 22nd 2023 at 11:25 PM

How compatible is this with other mods related to trees? Like wildcraft trees? :0

Mendall, May 22nd 2023 at 11:22 PM

I do not understand nor have I ever understood how making tree seeds easy to get was a game balance issue anywhere, single player or server.

I don't want to decimate a hole beautiful forest of redwoods every time I need that wood and make my game world that much less attractive, so let me cut down one tree then grow my own. If I'm willing to wait for the trees to grow just to make a sustainable choice, why should I not be able to. I will be using this in my SP world and until someone can explain to me why it's any more game breaking for me to plant ebony than it is for me to plant pine trees. I will not except that it is in any way breaking game balance as long as I still have to make the trek to where the trees grow to collect the seeds in the first place, not a bit of game content has been lost, and a forest has been saved.

So you sir are an environmental fricken hero for single-handedly saving the forests of VS.

I do have one question though does this work with wildcraft trees as well or just vanilla
