Latest file for Various v1.19.x:

Terra preta is a people-made soil, this mod tweaks the game to reflect that. Terra preta consists of charcoal, bone, compost, ceramic grog, and manure.
Changes the tera preta crafting recipe.

the recipe appears but when I create it, it does not work.
Ah I see, Haha thanks!
SoupMaster That is just the real life recipe as an example, in game grog is represented by fired bricks and manure is represented by dry grass. Great username btw
Where do you get ceramic grog and manure from?
JD2 I am aware, this will remain here for archival purposes.
I think this is default 1.19 rc1 behavior, not sure if this is still needed?
RuneScholar SalieriC Since terra preta still spawns in vanilla with lore content disabled/in Homo Sapiens mode, I don't buy that excuse at all. It's clearly not man-made as presented in vanilla.
This mod is great and makes it worthwhile, IMO, to do farming early on instead of just holding off until you find enough terra preta. It also feels a lot less 'cheaty' than just using Visible Terra Preta to find every patch near you.
@RuneScholar it still makes no sense that you can manufacture high fert and not terra pretta. High fertility should be naturally found in chernozem steppes, terra pretta as single blocks around ruins (compost pile vegetable patches). Again, low, medium, high fertility should be simulated during worldgen - low fertility in mountains, deserts, leached forests etc; high fertility in lowlands, steppes; medium everywhere else.
You find tera preta in the world because this is a world previously inhabited by a late medieval society that would have had huge swaths of land for farming....
SalieriC Agreed. It would probably be better to just have Terra Preta spawn exclusively around ruins but without the guarantee. This way it's still rare, but easier to track down since you know what to look for.
I didn't even know I needed this. Thank you very much!

Interestingly Terra Preta, while being man-made, fits the lore perfectly as it is implemented now. Terra Preta was a mystery for a long time and the way you make it was only recently rediscovered. So it pretty much fits the lore. That said, I do like the approach of this mod a lot. Slowly progressing to the best soil type feels a lot more rewarding than just finding lots and lots of it and never having to bother with the man-made soil.
Oh no!! You just did the unthinkable!! but i like this. I was going to make a post about this eventually.
There is no reason to use high fertility soil once you've explored big areas. It's like waiting 20 days to get something worse than the stuff you can obtain if you know where to search.
This mod makes you work to obtain a steady supply of Terra pretta over time using rot and not simply get the highest soil after a trip to the valleys and flat lands.
