Adds the dyeing mechanic to brigandine armor. Still a work in progress. I've set up blue, green, red, black, and purple variants and recipes to make it, but that's about it. The rest should be coming quickly as time allows, however, because the groundwork is done.
You can use dyed leathers to make tailored brigandine, similar to tailored gambeson.
How to craft:
- Dye leather
- Use dyed leather to craft a tailored leather jerkin.
- Craft enough metal plates and matching nails & strips (e.g. if making steel brigandine, you need steel nails & strips). Quantities should be in the handbook.
- Combine tailored leather jerkin with metal products to create tailored brigandine.
- (Optional) If crafting a brigandine helmet, you don't need to craft a jerkin before making the helmet.
The tailored brigandine has reduced penalties compared to standard brigandine, but is also takes nails and strips to hold the actual metal plates in place. To give it a more unique niche, it offers the lowest hunger increase of all metal armours, but also the worst protection (i.e. the normal protection for brigandine) and it is more expensive than standard brigandine. Let me know if you think that stats are unbalanced or if the crafting recipes are too expensive or something.
I hope to have variants for each leather color and the common metal types. The idea is that I wanted an armor that oozes with drip. That, and I was jealous of my clothier friend who kept making cool gambesons. This is mostly going up so barebones because I wanted my friends to have access to the new armour without me having to distribute it to them manually. Also, let me know if you want specific colors or something. Graphic design isn't my passion, so it might turn out bad, but I could give it a shot.
Thanks for checking this out and have a good one.

cyarin I'll look into using ConfigLib for something like that. No promises though sorry.
ComradeSoupBeans It's not compatible with Combat Overhaul atm. I've been (very gradually) working on releasing a patch for it. It's easy but tedious because there's so many brigandine variants
do you know if this would be compatible with Combat Overhaul, or how hard it would be to add compatability?
I was just wondering if this modded brigandine is configurable? For the server I'm on, we'd like the option to have colored brigandine without the buff to the armor- and possibly make it an option to enable it exclusive to tailors to craft?
Whoops. Missed that one, thanks for testing lol. Fixed now! Brady_The MrDoktor
Brady_The Thank you! I just made those changes to my own repair.json file and now the StoryEvent logs are back! Great stuff.
The problem MrDoktor mentions is related to an error in the "repair" recipes that results in 210 errors. To fix this, apply the changes ratwizard noted to repair.json as well, Tootlord
I'm really interested in this mod -- I love the Brigandine, I love swag, I love Brigandine swag.
I've just installed the mod -- one interesting thing I noticed right away is that this mod completely changes (namely, abbreviates) the "Story Event" logs that usually unroll at world creation and when loading into a new world. I can play with 0 or a dozen mods, and those logs always unroll the same -- but with Tailored Brigandine enabled, they get cut to just 3 or 4 lines.
You know the "Taste and smell, glimmer of soil, Invention, the center unfolding, Return again..." all that stuff just goes away with this mod enabled. The Story Event logs stop at Tase and Smell.
It's odd. On my end, totally repeatable -- I simply enable the mod on rc. 1.2.6, even on a fresh world with no other mod content, and the usual story event logs are cut short. The world still loads and seems to play normally.
@ratwizard Thanks for the heads up. I intend to get back into this mod eventually. Life/work got in the way for way too long. I'll update for v1.20 soon jic
@Bearbyte _epic_fish_Thanks a lot! :)
As of the 1.20 release candidates, leather itemcodes have been renamed. The grid recipes (repair, tailoredbrigandine, tailoredjerkin) will need to be updated from game:leather-* to game:leather-normal-*
Tootlord Pls don't stop updating this mod, I think you've hit a perfect balance for Brigadine, otherwise this armor is useless :D And the styling is perfect! It's my go to armor every run! :)
Tootlord
I made Ukrainian translation for your mod.

Thorin48 mod seems to work as of 1.19.3 :D
Are you updating to 1.19?
Could you create a mod or add the ability to dye plate and mail armor ?
Thanks for the nice comments y'all <3
Graphic design may not be your passion but this looks really good! I'm a fan of the idea of improvements to armor via putting more effort in to the fit.
I like that this also gives a reason to bother making nails and strips out of higher tier metals.
gndrneutralnoun Will do! I'll launch into green next. I'll try to make it match vanilla green unless you want a different color.
And yeah, I've pretty much just set up variants for each colour/metal + new textures. I tried to model the helmets to look like nasal helms but it came out looking like a beehive helmet lol. I've been wanting to launch into new clothes too, but my art skills are blegh so y'all get this instead
If you're taking suggestions for colors... can you do green next? It's my favorite color.
Also are you just creating new item variants with new textures, no modeling? Because this suddenly makes me want to make my own clothes and stuff for VS... Too bad I have so many ideas and not enough focus to actually do them.
Does the red variant look too much like Santa Claus or is it just me
I think it needs to be appreciated that your username is Tootlord lol
Finally! Vintage was sure missing colored leather for armors!
