Latest release (for Vintage Story 1.20.6 and 1.20.12, outdated):
Litbrig_0.7.6.zip  1-click install

Adds the dyeing mechanic to brigandine armor.  I've set up blue, green, red, black, purple, orange, and grey variants and recipes to make them. Still a work in progress.

You can use dyed leathers to make tailored brigandine, similar to tailored gambeson.

How to Craft
  1. Dye leather
  2. Use dyed leather to craft a tailored leather jerkin.
  3. Craft enough metal plates and matching nails & strips (e.g. if making steel brigandine, you need steel nails & strips). Quantities should be in the handbook.
  4. Combine tailored leather jerkin with metal products to create tailored brigandine.
  5. (Optional) If crafting a brigandine helmet, you don't need to craft a jerkin before making the helmet.

The tailored brigandine has reduced penalties compared to standard brigandine, but is also takes nails and strips to hold the actual metal plates in place. To give it a more unique niche, it offers the lowest hunger increase of all metal armours, but also the worst protection (i.e. the normal protection for brigandine) and it is more expensive than standard brigandine.

Now compatible with Combat Overhaul, but Combat Overhaul is not required.

Future Plans (no timeline)
  • Finish the last two colours
  • Combat Overhaul compatibility Done!
  • Use ConfigLib to change balancing options
Known Issues
  • The colors cannot be mixed and matched. If you try, whichever color is used for the legs will become the color for the entire outfit. Not sure how to fix this.
  • The orange color scheme kinda looks like trash. Will fix this eventually.
  • The leather jerkins cannot be repaired, nor do they have any durability value. Do not use them to fight drifters because they are but lies and will not protect you. Afaik, they work fine as an intermediate step for crafting.

Thanks for checking this out and have a wonderful day :>

0.7.3 litbrig 2356 Feb 3rd 2025 at 12:53 AM Litbrig 0.7.3.zip 1-click install
  • Accidentally packaged an old version of the recipe.json in the last release. My bad. Fixed.
  • Re-did the itemtype.json (again) so hopefully shapes and textures don't break (again).
  • First balancing pass on Combat Overhaul compatibility. I basically just halved hunger rate and movement speed. Combat Overhaul already reduces the base debuffs of brigandine, so to give tailored brig a unique niche w/ Combat Overhaul, tailored brigandine is slightly more juiced than before. Any feedback on this would be appreciated!

As always, all comments, issues, feedback is much welcome! :>

0.7.2 litbrig 770 Jan 28th 2025 at 5:54 PM Litbrig 0.7.2.zip 1-click install
  • Combat Overhaul compatibility (hopefully!) Balance is exactly the same as normal Combat Overhaul brigandine for the moment
  • Patch is untested so let me know if you find any issues
  • Added a modicon
  • If you aren't using Combat Overhaul, you can update safely but this update won't do anything for you lol
0.7.1 litbrig 674 Jan 23rd 2025 at 11:58 AM Litbrig 0.7.1.zip 1-click install
  • Added orange and grey variants to all metals
  • Fixed leather jerkins/leggings not being repairable, maybe…
  • Redid accents on belts and buckles for all variants
  • Refactored the itemtype .json for tailored brigandine so it doesn’t break from adding too many recipes. It’s actually a miracle it hasn’t fallen apart yet.
  • Refactored repair.json because I hated it
  • Formatted the .json files so if anyone wants to take a peek, it won’t look like total ass now lol
  • Does anyone even read these?
    • idc i like them

can we get an update pls?

Trungad, Aug 15th 2025 at 7:40 AM

Shame no one used BowlSoldier's very helpful insights to make a fix

BowlSoldier, Jul 10th 2025 at 3:29 PM

Tootlord / propaneko I know why the legs are overriding the other armor's textures. It's because they share the same "material" texture key for each item. When multiple items are attached to the same entity (which is how armor works, they're all attached to the player entity and rendered on that), then they share the same "texture key space", I call it. There can only be one texture code "seraph", one for "material", etc.

You could change the shapes to have unique textures codes, IE "materialbody", "materiallegs" etc. However there's no need, there's a more elegant fix.

The way the base game fixes this is by using "texturePrefixCode" attribute, which is present on the vanilla armor itemtype. In vanilla's "assets/survival/itemtypes/wearable/seraph/armor.json" file, it looks like:

attributes: {
    attachableToEntity: {
        texturePrefixCode: "armor-{bodypart}-{construction}-{material}"

What that does, is dynamically prefixes the texture code to make sure the texture codes don't collide. So instead of having three different armor pieces all using "material" texture code, instead you have "armor-head-brigandine-steel-material", "armor-body-brigandine-steel-material", and "armor-legs-brigandine-steel-material". Now they won't overlap with each other any more.

Made some similar mods myself, as well as a library for more efficiently doing shape/texture variations of armor, so would be happy to collaborate or help out further if you need!

DeanBro, Jul 2nd 2025 at 8:48 PM

Tootlord Hi, I made a translation for your mod

Flandernfield, May 13th 2025 at 7:31 PM

Hallo just saying the Orange Tailored jerkin recepie is broken for the pants so you know

Corat, Mar 30th 2025 at 4:34 AM

Hey, I'm a big fan of this mod and the serious style it adds, but it unfortunately conflicts with the bling potential that Combat Overhaul: Armory adds.

Is there any way that you could use the existing shape files for each brigandine segment, map your beautiful textures to it, and then divide it up into the individual armor sections that Armory has?

It's quite a lot, but I'm more than willing to do a good deal of it myself, I just don't know much about making itemtypes in .json. If you taught me a repeatable process I will most happily do everything myself!

SturFrye, Mar 28th 2025 at 12:36 PM

I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but if you wear a leather backpack and the tailored leather jerkins, it retextures the backpack. Nothing game altering but it messes with the fashion

Blackmare, Mar 25th 2025 at 9:08 PM

have you tried splitting the brig file into legs body and head to see what might be causing the leg reliance for colors?

Ixon, Mar 22nd 2025 at 9:13 PM

any chance this mod will be updated?

Gurglungus, Mar 16th 2025 at 9:56 PM

For anyone curious, it's easy to fix yourself, just unzip the file, go to Litbrig_0.7.5\assets\litbrig\patches\combatoverhaul, open the .json in notepad, and ctrl-f "tailoredbrigandine-legs-iron-" and change "walkspeed" from -0.9 to -0.09. Then save and rezip the file.

Gurglungus, Mar 16th 2025 at 8:26 PM

The iron leggings have -90% move speed. I'm using Combat Overhaul if that makes a difference. All other materials seem to be working fine.

Love the mod otherwise, and it would be cool to see tailored versions of the other armors.

propaneko, Mar 15th 2025 at 12:28 AM

Taeo fixed

propaneko, Mar 15th 2025 at 12:06 AM

Gonna check that soon

Taeo, Mar 14th 2025 at 11:49 PM

Do the leather jerkins still have no durability? I don't see it in the tooltip

propaneko, Mar 14th 2025 at 8:50 PM

Stride I might not do any new features there but at least can patch it if its gonna be necessary, Tootlord gave me permission to push new updates here

Stride, Mar 14th 2025 at 11:38 AM

I hope this mod can be fixed and maintained by others if that Author has to step away. I really love this mod.

propaneko, Mar 14th 2025 at 10:14 AM

Is there a chance you could add me as the maintaner/owner of this mod? W could talk specifics in discord if you want. Tootlord

propaneko, Mar 2nd 2025 at 10:45 PM

Values are wrong for the Tailored Steel brigandine with Combat Overhaul, they should have
"Resists": {"PiercingAttack": 9, "SlashingAttack": 12, "BluntAttack": 4},
"FlatReduction": {"PiercingAttack": 1, "SlashingAttack": 0, "BluntAttack": 0},

values instead of

"Resists": {
  "PiercingAttack": 6,
  "SlashingAttack": 8,
  "BluntAttack": 2
},
"FlatReduction": {},

Tootlord , Feb 19th 2025 at 10:34 AM

InertFurryThat's bizarre. Thanks for report. I probably messed something up somewhere. I'm hardcore interviewing for jobs rn so I won't be able to get to it for at least 2-4 weeks or so, sorry :/ For now, try not to use the jerkin for any actual defense lmao

InertFurry, Feb 17th 2025 at 5:48 AM

My Green Leather Jherkin can be crafted with green leather but will recover no durability.
Edit: it can't recover durability because it has no durability value. Also why it instantly explodes the moment it takes damage. Tootlord

Tootlord , Feb 8th 2025 at 6:58 AM

Tigerfang should be simple enough. They're compatible out the box but Tailored Brigandine isn't affected by Jack's Armor Tweak (compatible but not consistent). I'll whip a consistency option whenever I get configlib set up

Tigerfang, Feb 4th 2025 at 10:45 PM

I like it! But I also like Jack's Armor Tweak for my armors. Potential compatability or alternate version in the future at some point?

Tootlord , Feb 3rd 2025 at 12:57 AM

RowdyArt Uploaded a new version to hopefully fix that. Thanks for the report!

ProfCupcake Low-effort modicon is here to stay😤

Horizons Lowkey-highkey appreciate that <3

RowdyArt, Feb 2nd 2025 at 4:06 PM

it seems the textures for the grey and orange body and legs are not loading properly

ProfCupcake, Jan 29th 2025 at 8:22 AM

"If you aren't using Combat Overhaul, you can update safely but this update won't do anything for you lol"

Hey, that's not strictly true, it'd still add the modicon :]

Horizons, Jan 24th 2025 at 4:22 AM

I not oonly read your changelogs, I quote them in my announcements every time I update the mod so I force others to read them.

Tootlord , Jan 23rd 2025 at 10:33 PM

wojwojowski Cuddly_Khan

Hahaha thanks for reading my changelogs :)) It's not compatible with Combat Overhaul atm but I am working on a patch. No timeline on when it's done but hopefully no more than a month!

wojwojowski, Jan 23rd 2025 at 1:13 PM

I read changelogs :)
is the mod compatible with combat overhaull if not do you plan to make it?

Cuddly_Khan, Jan 23rd 2025 at 1:13 PM
  • I do read those
    • because i like them too
ComradeSoupBeans, Jan 23rd 2025 at 12:05 PM

Tootlord thanks so much for the update, glad to hear you're chipping away at it! Once it's updated i'm definitely going to add it to my mod list. I fully get the repeated data entry hell lol, take your time and stay sane :)

Tootlord , Jan 20th 2025 at 12:44 AM

cyarin I'll look into using ConfigLib for something like that. No promises though sorry.

ComradeSoupBeans It's not compatible with Combat Overhaul atm. I've been (very gradually) working on releasing a patch for it. It's easy but tedious because there's so many brigandine variants

ComradeSoupBeans, Jan 19th 2025 at 11:35 AM

do you know if this would be compatible with Combat Overhaul, or how hard it would be to add compatability?

Muis, Jan 14th 2025 at 11:00 AM

I was just wondering if this modded brigandine is configurable? For the server I'm on, we'd like the option to have colored brigandine without the buff to the armor- and possibly make it an option to enable it exclusive to tailors to craft?

Tootlord , Jan 3rd 2025 at 4:37 PM

Whoops. Missed that one, thanks for testing lol. Fixed now! Brady_The MrDoktor

MrDoktor, Jan 2nd 2025 at 4:54 PM

Brady_The Thank you! I just made those changes to my own repair.json file and now the StoryEvent logs are back! Great stuff.

Brady_The, Jan 2nd 2025 at 4:29 PM

The problem MrDoktor mentions is related to an error in the "repair" recipes that results in 210 errors. To fix this, apply the changes ratwizard noted to repair.json as well, Tootlord

MrDoktor, Jan 2nd 2025 at 3:24 AM

I'm really interested in this mod -- I love the Brigandine, I love swag, I love Brigandine swag.

I've just installed the mod -- one interesting thing I noticed right away is that this mod completely changes (namely, abbreviates) the "Story Event" logs that usually unroll at world creation and when loading into a new world. I can play with 0 or a dozen mods, and those logs always unroll the same -- but with Tailored Brigandine enabled, they get cut to just 3 or 4 lines.

You know the "Taste and smell, glimmer of soil, Invention, the center unfolding, Return again..." all that stuff just goes away with this mod enabled. The Story Event logs stop at Tase and Smell.

It's odd. On my end, totally repeatable -- I simply enable the mod on rc. 1.2.6, even on a fresh world with no other mod content, and the usual story event logs are cut short. The world still loads and seems to play normally.

Tootlord , Dec 30th 2024 at 3:11 PM

@ratwizard Thanks for the heads up. I intend to get back into this mod eventually. Life/work got in the way for way too long. I'll update for v1.20 soon jic

@Bearbyte _epic_fish_Thanks a lot! :)

ratwizard, Dec 27th 2024 at 10:06 PM

As of the 1.20 release candidates, leather itemcodes have been renamed. The grid recipes (repair, tailoredbrigandine, tailoredjerkin) will need to be updated from game:leather-* to game:leather-normal-*

BearByte, Nov 17th 2024 at 8:38 PM

Tootlord Pls don't stop updating this mod, I think you've hit a perfect balance for Brigadine, otherwise this armor is useless :D And the styling is perfect! It's my go to armor every run! :)

_epic_fish_, Sep 4th 2024 at 3:09 PM
Sylvo, Feb 2nd 2024 at 10:28 AM

Thorin48 mod seems to work as of 1.19.3 :D

Thorin48, Dec 25th 2023 at 11:21 AM

Are you updating to 1.19?

TheDude, Oct 26th 2023 at 8:28 PM

Could you create a mod or add the ability to dye plate and mail armor ?

Tootlord , Jun 30th 2023 at 2:12 PM

Thanks for the nice comments y'all <3

chippit, Jun 28th 2023 at 11:41 PM

Graphic design may not be your passion but this looks really good! I'm a fan of the idea of improvements to armor via putting more effort in to the fit.

I like that this also gives a reason to bother making nails and strips out of higher tier metals.

Tootlord , Jun 26th 2023 at 5:24 AM

gndrneutralnoun Will do! I'll launch into green next. I'll try to make it match vanilla green unless you want a different color.

And yeah, I've pretty much just set up variants for each colour/metal + new textures. I tried to model the helmets to look like nasal helms but it came out looking like a beehive helmet lol. I've been wanting to launch into new clothes too, but my art skills are blegh so y'all get this instead

gndrneutralnoun, Jun 25th 2023 at 3:55 PM

If you're taking suggestions for colors... can you do green next? It's my favorite color.

Also are you just creating new item variants with new textures, no modeling? Because this suddenly makes me want to make my own clothes and stuff for VS... Too bad I have so many ideas and not enough focus to actually do them.

Tootlord , Jun 24th 2023 at 2:26 PM

Does the red variant look too much like Santa Claus or is it just me

gndrneutralnoun, Jun 22nd 2023 at 10:11 PM

I think it needs to be appreciated that your username is Tootlord lol

AzuliBluespots, Jun 22nd 2023 at 5:56 PM

Finally! Vintage was sure missing colored leather for armors!
