This mod adds a stirling engine, made out of clay and a copper plate. It can convert fuel into modest amounts of mechanical power, without needing either flax or wind.

It features an animated 3D model by @corfidbizna, of a stirling engine design that (sort of) works in real life.

Zalfeon I haven't done anything with chutes myself. I assumed they'd work. Do they work with a regular cooking fire? [Edit: I just tried it, and you can refuel them with chutes. Make sure the chute leads to the firebox (bottom block) of the engine.]

For those who are specifically interested in an early game helve hammer, here are some helve hammer measurements for different fuels:

  • 1x charcoal ≈ 1/3.0 Hz
  • 2x charcoal ≈ 1 Hz
  • 3x charcoal ≈ 1 Hz (no improvement over 2x)
  • 1x firewood = no motion
  • 2x firewood ≈ 1/2.2 Hz
  • 3x firewood ≈ 1/1.3 Hz

1x was connected directly, 2x and 3x were measured with three stirling engines on a large gear. If you place two stirling engines on opposite sides of the toggle and light them both, they'll fight each other and there will be no net torque.

Bonus measurement: 12 stirling engines with a 1:5 gear ratio burning firewood ≈ 1.25 Hz.

Hi love the mod but would you make it so you can use Chutes to refuel the Stirling Engine?

seems pretty balanced, honestly. Could do with some photos or gifs, but no major complaints!

There's an error in the model. There are supposed to be supports leading up from the chamber and supporting the crankshaft. Hopefully I'll remember to fix that soon.

This sounds really cool, I'll check it out.
