This is an updated variant of the Optimized Leather mod made by Ethonodon.
Check out Optimized Preservation to decrease the time it takes to create foods in a barrel.
Here's a table showing the various times to process hides into leather, in vanilla and this mod:

All of my changes in this mod are public domain. I'd release it fully in public domain, but the original mod is not public domain. The changes are simple enough, so I doubt it'd ever be an issue.

This would be really good with a config file or in-game setting in which you can alter the values yourself. 204h is a lot for my taste, but 34h is too fast.
