More Animals Mod v1.3.5
This mod adds new animals for you to hunt or nurture as you please, currently this mod includes:
- Ring-necked Pheasants which will spawn in temperate areas between 8 and 28 degrees C
- Wild Turkeys which also spawn in temperate areas
- Golden Pheasants that spawn in tropical areas above 24 degrees C
- Capercaillies that spawn in subarctic areas which between -26 and 10 degrees C.
All four game birds will spawn in areas that have at least 32% rainfall and at least 40% forest or shrub coverage, they both show distinct sexual dimorphism with the males having highly decorative plumage and distinct calls and the hens having much plainer plumage and vocalisations, Capercaillies display the largest difference between the body volume between the cock and hen with the hens being much smaller than the stout, wide males and the males produce more meat as a result.
Pheasants, Golden Pheasants, Capercaillies and Turkeys all provide more poultry meat and feathers than chickens (with the larger males producing more than the hens) and will eat grain from small troughs like chickens but will also eat grain dropped on the ground, you can employ this to lure wild birds into an enclosure.
This mod also adds a new nest box block which uses the recipe of the henbox, all birds can lay eggs in it and sit on it to incubate any fertile eggs held inside. The new nest box displays what species can use the nest box, what eggs are contained inside it, what species laid the eggs and whether the eggs are fertile or not when you move your mouse over the nestbox block. Any species can incubate eggs held within a nestbox as long as it's considered full (when it contains three eggs) regardless of what eggs are held within as long as at least one is fertile.
When the eggs hatch the chicks which will grow up into poults after 7 days and the poults will be fully grown adults after a further 7 days requiring a total of two in-game weeks to fully mature.
As of 29th January 2024 the mod has been updated to be compatible with the changes to animal diets and the basket animal traps implemented in 1.19.

Just wanted to let you know about something I just ran into that I think might be a bug? But I've never seen it before now and I've been using the mod for a while.
I have a coop that has a bunch of different bird types, but the only males are Pheasants, still trying to find males for the others. Well, my chicken laid 2 fertile eggs. She does not have a male chicken to breed with, so I'm assuming she some how mated with the pheasant males? It gave me a good laugh lol. Just thought i'd let ya know it happened, dunno if it was intentional with the mod or not.

I understand this is kind of a big ask, but could you please update this mod to 1.20 prerelease before thanksgiving? I want to hunt turkeys with a blunderbuss.
I THINK i got one warning message when loading up a world, but I'm not sure what it was. Need to check the nests too - but at least the mod loads on 1.20-pre6 and spawns normally some birds. I even saw a wolf pup chasing a pheasant.
I'm also having the issue where turkey cock poults are growing into pheasant cocks.

Hey, just want to second Stahl's comment from earlier. I've captured a wild turkey hen and it is utterly silent. Additionally the alerts pop up, usually during a lag spike. Looking through the code, I think what's happening is that the file path specified is `moreanimals:sounds/wildturkey`, but there is only a `moreanimals:sounds/turkey` folder. I'm probably going to axe the hen for now, but this might be worth checking what path is given for sound files.

Okay, so I've noticed something very strange in my game, which is that male turkey poults grow up into pheasant cocks, instead of turkey cocks as one would expect. So I took a look at the wildturkey-cockpoult.json and notice it says this on line 109:

They changed the way animals are assiciated with food and now the animals added by this mod no longer eat from troughs. That also pops up in the logs.

Just to keep you in the loop Catasteroid, we solved it, it was a patching issue with Biomes and the fix has been to sent to Crabb to hopefully update soonish
I cannot get my pheasants to eat from the trough or use the nest box and I am not sure what I'm doing wrong. I tried both version 1.3.3 and version 1.3.2.
I have tested two games so far, and compared them to chicken.
I'm using amaranth and spelt seed in two small troughs (the trough does not say it works with pheasants so I'm not sure if that is the issue)
I'm also using the nestbox but they haven't been using it either. I observed them for multiple days throughout which all other non-modded animals consumed the food in the trough as well as the refill.
I can't find anyone else complaining about this. Any way I can make them eat and lay eggs?

EDIT: I tried running the game with only this mod and -then- they can eat and do everything. I'll try to find if there is a mod conflict..
I love this mod, but unfortunately, I started reciving crashes recently after looking at nestbox with a chicken in it :(

I love all the new wildlife in my game. However, My game crashed when I attempted to set a wild turkey egg on the ground. Also, is it possible to boil the wild bird eggs? I tried, didn't work.

Is it missing or just complaining for the joy of it? 😅
SuaveDoggo I'll take a look, they shouldn't be attacking hares- they're not in the list of targets they'll consider for attacking last I checked
MrSprinkleTitz I've considered several like ptarmigans, prairie chickens, an assortment of pheasant species, blue or green peacocks as well as quail and partridge, making the textures is always a fairly time-consuming task to produce a result I'm happy to ship
Do you happen to have any other game birds planned? I was thinking about quail recently and I think they would be a perfect addition.
Is it possible to reduce their aggro distance ? My minimap is absolutely covered in corpse locations because they seem to have an innate desire to hunt and genocide every hare around my camp :/

Well, good to hear chickens do it... but what about these exotic birds? I'm leaning towards yes, but I have no real idea.
Thanks for the update! I can confirm that the birds all have diets visible and my capercailie hen finally laid eggs after eating enough portions. I do want to note however that common group names don't have localization, which makes mousing over troughs a bit awkward but that's just a nitpick.
l33tmaan yeah that'd be cool, when I had a smallholding I'd usually crush the shells from discarded eggs before providing it to my hens which they'd eat fairly enthusiastically, but they wouldn't wolf them down like they would with some other things I offered to them

Also, the eggshells serve as food for the pigs, but yeah, I guess it should works for the birds or at least the chickens.
Hey, in the next update of ACA I'll make it so chickens eat any leftover egg shells you might have. I think they do that IRL, right?

PetMudstone I've added the diet and trap attributes to every entity in the mod, hopefully it should lead to them eating properly and traps functioning correctly with them
Playing with this mod on 1.19.2 and 1.19.3 and for some reason my capercailie hens aren't laying eggs even though there's a capercailie cock with them and I provided grain in a small trough (which they don't seem to eat out of). Notably, the chickens I have actually laid eggs and eat out of the trough. I'm using proper nest boxes too, which explicitly say that capercailies will use them.
Edit: I checked the mod's config and none of the added birds have actual diets defined! Thus they won't eat any food, trough or dropped. I did add diets to them all (and also added additional language support so that troughs would say they supported every single variant of bird) but I'll have to wait and see if they actually lay eggs now that they eat.
Just to be sure, after a big headache, I made a temporary update to this. You still need the mod, and then you overwrite the contents with this. It's only a single entities folder with all 20 stages of these birds. Won't do anything on its own.
Either extract the mod or put this over the entities folder in the mod's zip file.

This will let you catch most, if not all of the birds with the new vanilla trap.
edit: Something is wrong with my implementation. It seems to work in offline play, but the server didn't recognize the mod when I uploaded my edited version. Hoping for an update to the translation and the addition of the new trap setting. They need a diet for it to work.
I hope this gets updated soon, maybe, just maybe, you could add the new catchable attributes and values to these birds! I know animal cages is a thing, but I'm having issues between it and another mod. Might do a temporary implementation myself, but it would be amazing if it was on the official mod!

Hen box with 3 eggs crashes client when any player looks at the nest in gm 1 or gm 2 with vanilla hens or pheasants laying eggs. this happens only on certain block locations.

The mod crashes instantly to desktop upon simply looking at nest boxes. This started recently for me, I've been using the mod for months without issue until this started last week.
Really bummed about this, it's made my 340 hour world unplayable.

In 1.18.5, when I place/use a nest box from this mod my server throws this exception repeatedly and goes into essentially a crashed state without actually crashing.

This is the ONE mod that makes raising birds worth it. Pleeease update it to 1.18, it's crashing the game even on a new world now. Can't even load in.
And I have all the new birds lay their eggs on the ground, although there are equipped places nearby for this. Regular chickens that were kept nearby laid their eggs in these boxes, and new birds on the ground.
v1.18-rc.2: Placing a nestbox caused internal server to crash, but client keeps going, reloading save loads an empty void.

This mod still works perfectly fine in 1.17.6 and doesn't throw any errors. Havn't ran into any issues with it with any other creature adding mods either :)

I found a capercaille cock and hen and caught them with the Animal Cages mod, brought them to an enclosure, and set up some food troughs and a nestbox for them. For some reason though, I come back and the birds have just vanished. No dead bodies or anything, just... gone. I thought at first it was wolves (I set up my base in a forest, haha) but I spawned in some more capercailles for myself and they vanished, too. Fence was double-height, so I highly doubt they escaped. Could you investigate this?
Also, compatibility with Farm Life would be great, but that's just an aside.
I'm using this mod in 1.16.5.
Pheasant eggs don't seem to work with Expanded Foods...

The bug only occurs when you're looking at a nest box with (presumably) both a capercaillie and pheasant egg in it right? I'll take a look and see if I can reproduce the bug, if you're willing you can help me by trying to reproduce the bug yourself in single player where the exceptions it causes won't boot you.
I seem to have a repeatable bug with a nest box that contains 2 different eggs. I have a ranch wtih both Pheasants and Capercaillies, and as soon as I look at a nest box, that I believe contains eggs from both the game crashes. I have disabled all other mods and experience the same crash. I have saved the logs from a crash with all other mods disabled I could provide if you need them and have some way for me to pass them over.
does it work on 1.16.5 stable?

golden pheasant cocks are spawning in with normal pheasant females; I haven't managed to find a single golden pheasant hen :(
(literally watched a group spawn in and all the hens were normal pheasant and so were the chicks)
I love your mod and the work you have done on the birds, they are absolutly stunning.
