"Entangled In Nature"

is a mod designed to immerse players in a more interactive and dynamic natural environment. It enhances the world of Vintage Story by introducing mechanics that allow the player to experience nature in a more tactile way, encouraging both exploration and interaction with the flora around them.

Has Config lib support. Install it to configure the mod.

Key Features:

Environmental Impact:

The mod introduces a new gameplay mechanic where entities are influenced by their environment, adding realism and immersion. Key features include:

  1. Snow and Terrain Effects:

    • Snow Slowdown: Movement through snow can be configured with a slowdown multiplier. Snow effects can also be toggled off entirely.
    • Block Types: Specific blocks, such as muddy gravel or raw clay,  gravel, sand, can impede movement. The soil slowdown multiplier is fully configurable.
    • Ice Breaking:
      • Walking, running, jumping, or falling on ice surfaces has a configurable chance to break the block beneath the entity.
      • Players can configure the probability of ice breaking through the BreakingIceChance setting.
      • The feature can be disabled entirely by setting the break chance to 0.0.
      • Ice breaking also affects nearby blocks, creating a chain reaction effect in some cases.

  2. Foliage Drag:

    • Movement through dense foliage, such as leaves, slows entities, with configurable multipliers for drag.
    • Plants and Leaves: Separate multipliers let you customize friction for moving through plants and leaves. These can be disabled by setting their values to 0.

  3. Customizable Gear Interaction:

    • Boots for Snow: Players can configure specific items (e.g., boots) to improve movement through snow.
    • Gliders Affected by Leaves: Gliders can be configured to interact with foliage, potentially causing players to fall when gliding through leaves.

  4. Entity Customization:

    • Blacklist Entities: Configure which entities are excluded from environmental effects, such as butterflies or other specific entities.

  5. Complete Configurability:

    • Every mechanic is fully configurable, allowing you to adjust slowdown multipliers for snow, sand, gravel, soil, leaves, and plants.
    • Ranges and default values are customizable to match your gameplay preferences.

Config Feature:

  • Blacklist Entities: You can configure which entities are affected by Entangled In Nature. - (Default - "@.*(butterfly).*")

Glad to see your response to Cuddly Khan. Seeing folks jump around all over the place to get around this mod's mechanics on our server is nausiating to watch.

On another note- Any plays to add compatibility for mods like the Floral Zones and Wildcraft mods?

And thanks for your work on this project. It is quite satisfying.

💬 nedwobsamoht, Mar 17th at 10:35 AM

loved this idea and I typically play on either near treeless worlds for ultimate early game grind or worlds absolutely loaded with flora and this mod innitially slowed me down while wading through thick bushland and I loved it - for the realism. but then I played a desert savana type world which just had a lot of low cut grass everywhere and this mod just became annoying, it would temporarly slow me down for 1/2 a second at every tussock and then release me for another 1/2 second resulting in a constant quick slow quick slow pattern. Turned that off pretty quickly. Maybe think about turning this off in the default values as in RL most of us can run full gas over patchy grass.

I'm looking forward to the update for that then (as well as the fix for glacier ice breaking too often)! :D Would be cool if it also made it so that falling into bushes and trees softened your fall a bit too like water (but you still take some damage).

💬 misterandydandy , Feb 22nd at 6:42 PM

I can Cuddly_khan

And I'll be getting around to see what I can change tonight SageOceiro.

💬 Cuddly_Khan, Feb 22nd at 5:02 AM

I love what this mod does. Awesome stuff. Only issue I have with it is that it can almost entirely be mitigated by holding space. Is there any way to make it so that jumping while in grass, or bushes makes it like when you jump in water? I'm in a server that uses this mod, and it's so weird to see everyone just hopping everywhere like kangaroos when travelling.

💬 SageOceiros, Feb 14th at 7:07 AM

Hello! I have also noticed the grass causing slow down. I don't want to reduce the slowdown for all plants, however the variation in grass heights causes speed to change rapidly when moving across relatively clear terrain. Perhaps you might consider a seperate speed config for grass, or reducing the scale of effect between the various heights? It's strangely uncomfortable, even if it's more subtle than other interactions, perhaps because I don't usually pay attention to grass unless I'm looking for it.

💬 misterandydandy , Feb 4th at 2:01 PM

Can do.

💬 Cuddly_Khan, Feb 3rd at 11:54 PM

Could you make it so that glacier ice is much rarer to break than lake ice, and packed glacier ice even rarer than that? I went to a mountain and found myself in a 20 block hole from falling through glacier ice over and over again. It feels way too fragile!

💬 misterandydandy , Jan 30th at 10:37 PM

It tells you that it won't take a effort until you reload the world and the values that 1.000 is a float that's normal. I can't tell you why it goes of being a 1 to 1.000 you best ask the modder who made it to see if it is a bug.

💬 DecaByte, Jan 30th at 8:42 AM

Screwby If you change the 'Foliage (Plants) setting to 0 it will disable it.

💬 DecaByte, Jan 30th at 8:32 AM

Noticed that the numbers & slider used in Config Lib to change the setting changes. Clicking the default button in Config Lib in the setting for your mod sets it to whole numbers & the slider only move whole numbers 1, 2, 3 & such. But after reloading it changes to 1.000, 2.000, 3.000 & so on.

💬 DecaByte, Jan 30th at 8:01 AM

I also notice that changing the config settings in the Config Lib mod don't take effect till reloading the game.

💬 DecaByte, Jan 30th at 7:38 AM

The mod that is causing the issue to happen is Natural Trail Mod - CUPdated

💬 misterandydandy , Jan 29th at 10:15 PM

Screwby Short grass will slow you but shouldn't be that much? unless you have a mod that is using the wrong blockmaterial? Also you can change the value on PlantSlowdownMultiplier lower value.

💬 Screwby, Jan 29th at 10:02 PM

I'm having a slight issue where your mod seems to be treating short grass as foliage, leading to some intrusive movement slowing at all times. Was curious if this was intentional, or if I've messed something up?

💬 misterandydandy , Jan 28th at 6:42 PM

Thank you ❤️ and yes it is I could do it but I wanted to spend time on coding part but I will happily use the one you made for me.

💬 ParallaxError, Jan 28th at 5:51 PM

Hi, Cool mod. However I see your icon is clearly AI generated (notice pixels that aren't quite square). I designed a new one if you'd like. Hope i'm not intruding or anything, just a vintarian that wants to help 😁

Nice that was quick to fix! Thanks SalmonGod & misterandydandy !

💬 misterandydandy , Jan 28th at 12:48 PM

SalmonGod It shouldn't have a confict with Brain Freeze mod but just be careful to not stay on the ice.. haha I could add some footwear what could help the player?

💬 misterandydandy , Jan 27th at 11:33 PM

Fixed it SalmonGod HunterAFO298 namG1998

💬 misterandydandy , Jan 27th at 11:29 PM

LOL I found the issue my bad..

💬 SalmonGod, Jan 27th at 9:56 PM

Checking the comments because I'm having the same issue as namG.  Whenever I step on dirt blocks, I fall in one block deep.  I don't think it's only dirt blocks with grass growing on them.  I think I will occassionally fall through bare ones.  But the ones with grass growing on them will happen every time.

I was playing lastnight without issue.  Today the issue began immediately.  I updated Entangled in Nature, Stone Bake Oven, Art of Growing, and Salty's Manual Ore Crush before loading up the game a few minutes ago.

Of those 4, this mod seems like it would be the most likely to cause this sort of issue.  I deleted my Entangled in Nature config before I began.  I deleted my config again and reverted to Entangled in Nature 1.0.4 and it resolved the issue.  Am on game version 1.20.3.

Also, falling through ice is a cool feature.  Do you expect that feature will conflict with the Brain Freeze mod?

💬 HunterAFO298, Jan 27th at 9:48 PM

I am also getting the falling through the floor bug. Just walking up a hill into a fern on the step above and jumping onto it somehow pushes me into the floor lol.

EDIT: just jumping on ferns/grass (possibly other vegetation too) causes this issue regardless of climbing up hills. Jumping on them in general pushes you underground.

💬 namG1998, Jan 27th at 8:00 PM

No when just walking up a dirt block but it has grass on it

💬 misterandydandy , Jan 27th at 7:45 PM

namG1998
Are you talking about leaves? on tree? because I am sure my code doesn't do anything to make you fall though dirt blocks but if you can tell me abit more I can look into it.

💬 namG1998, Jan 27th at 7:41 PM

Sorry I explained poorly, I meant when climbing up hills and stuff

💬 misterandydandy , Jan 27th at 7:17 PM

Ohh are your stairs a chiseled block? namG1998

💬 misterandydandy , Jan 27th at 7:12 PM

namG1998 if you can tell me what mod got stairs made of grass I can see if I can fix it.

💬 namG1998, Jan 27th at 6:52 PM

Hi this mod seems to make me fall though dirt blocks when jumping up stairs made of grass when it has grass on top. In all fairness i do have a large mod list so it could be that to

💬 bringitonwimps, Jan 12th at 3:23 AM

misterandydandy seams to all be working error free ATM

💬 misterandydandy , Jan 11th at 3:10 AM

updated bringitonwimps let me know if you have a other issue.

💬 misterandydandy , Jan 11th at 2:58 AM

bringitonwimps I think I have found the issue. I take it you don't have backpack or glider on your backpack slot?

💬 misterandydandy , Jan 11th at 2:42 AM

bringitonwimps how did it happened? and what version are you using for vintage story?

💬 bringitonwimps, Jan 11th at 2:34 AM

💬 misterandydandy , Jan 7th at 12:47 PM

I'm not sure why @ mention doesn't work on phone for.

💬 Cuddly_Khan, Jan 7th at 11:16 AM

@Lumvik @misterandydandy That sounds like something that would definitely incentivise the building and use of roads and path blocks I think. I love that idea! (It seems the @ mention thing doesn't work when i'm typing commenting from my phone. Whoops.)

💬 Sell, Jan 7th at 5:39 AM

Mod is a great idea and feels great to play with it while exploring. Would love to see it expand to interact with ice breaking while walking on it, would give an interesting risk/reward to crossing frozen lakes in winter.
Cheers,

💬 Dirty_Shisno, Jan 7th at 3:38 AM

Just got back from a good session of playing with this in my world... It feels so incredibly right. Good Job, Great Mod 10/10

💬 misterandydandy , Jan 6th at 3:51 AM

Damnn that's pretty cool idea Lumvik

💬 Lumvik, Jan 6th at 3:02 AM

I really like your mod! I actually wanted to make something similar myself at one point XD.

Have you thought about adding different walking speeds based on the surface material?
For example, walking on grass or dirt could be at normal speed, while on sand, the seraph might move slightly slower.

💬 misterandydandy , Jan 6th at 2:27 AM

I'll have it so you can configure value. Dirty_Shisno

💬 Dirty_Shisno, Jan 6th at 2:19 AM

A 50% > 5%  range sounds brutal. This idea is very 'solid' and I love it.

💬 misterandydandy , Jan 6th at 2:01 AM

Cuddly_Khan That's what I was thinking of doing.

💬 misterandydandy , Jan 6th at 1:59 AM

Thanks TheRealFlynn

💬 Cuddly_Khan, Jan 6th at 12:14 AM

Ice breaking when you walk on it would be cool! Maybe make it a chance thing also effected by how many other ice blocks are around it. If it's an ice block by itself make it 50% chance, and if it is fully surrounded by ice on all 8 sides make the chance 5%

💬 TheRealFlynn, Jan 5th at 11:04 PM

"where entities, including (there is a word missing here), are influenced by"

love this mod. it's great being slowed where you should be.

💬 misterandydandy , Jan 1st at 5:08 PM

Well glad you like it.

💬 Inflectus, Jan 1st at 11:05 AM

My "favorite" Project Zomboid feature now in Vintage Story. Oh yes.

💬 misterandydandy , Dec 31st 2024 at 1:11 AM

It's should work fine but it won't break your world as the way I coded it.

💬 bringitonwimps, Dec 31st 2024 at 12:28 AM

do you know how compatible this is with the flora zones mods and thew FOTSA animals?.. im thinking if using this as i love the idea but i want to make sure its consistant in the world.  i dont want certain vegitaion to just not do anything and certain entities like say a tiger from fotsa to ignore all vegitation.

💬 misterandydandy , Dec 30th 2024 at 11:42 PM

Just finished adding the snow code, all I need now is to make some snow shoes.

💬 misterandydandy , Dec 30th 2024 at 8:50 PM

Be sure to delete old mod from cache folder and the mod it self in mods folder.

💬 misterandydandy , Dec 30th 2024 at 8:44 PM

Updated TheRealFlynn rhino1998

💬 misterandydandy , Dec 30th 2024 at 12:41 PM

I will be adding config I'll probably end up using configlib

And for the wind I can try.

💬 TheRealFlynn, Dec 30th 2024 at 7:29 AM

config would be nice. great mod. tysm

also, what about being slowed when winds are really high?

💬 rhino1998, Dec 30th 2024 at 12:16 AM

Is there any config for this mod yet? I poked around a bit but didn't see anything obvious. I was looking for a way to make ridden elk not affected by tall grass (but still affected by leaves)

💬 misterandydandy , Dec 29th 2024 at 4:19 PM

I like that nice idea.

💬 washaa, Dec 29th 2024 at 3:57 PM

Nice idea! The last comment about snow got me thinking. How about having the amount of snow affecting player speed proportionally, and the player walking not directly on top of snow blocks but at a %depth? I like the idea of having to craft snow shoes to walk on top of deep snow and regain movement speed. If this could be incorporated with something like the Natural trails mod, that would really be cool.

Cross country skis or riding elks could be something to consider too.

💬 Gabitzu, Dec 29th 2024 at 3:44 PM

That is really cool! I'm also very excited to see what other features you plan to add, this mod is great!

💬 misterandydandy , Dec 29th 2024 at 12:04 PM

Gabitzu
it should work with most mods as long as the foliage doesn't have a collision box and for the other question small plant - grass, brushes, wildvine etc, anything that's got blockmaterial: "Plant", or "Leaves".

It works with Wildgrass.

💬 Michaloid , Dec 29th 2024 at 11:31 AM

Oh my effin god! You're a god for making this, thank you so much!!!!!! Now i can pass through annoying leaves in a forest, (even though it slows me down a bit)

💬 Gabitzu, Dec 29th 2024 at 9:08 AM

Awesome mod! What flora affects the player speed and is it compatible with mods like Wildgrass? Thanks!
