A simple client side mod that let's you dynamically change your view distance with a key (Y by default).
You can add view distance values in the config file, and set what value will be the starting one when entering a world.
I made this mod because entering forests lags my game to oblivion and lowering view distance solves the problem. But going in the settings everytime I enter a forest was a pain in the @#* and I already had all macros set up. So this was my solution, I hope this can help you too.

Well, you can detect an area around the player - if there's forest soil beneath them in a 4x4 or 5x5 configuration, the player probably is in a big forest. The "forest soil" block doesn't appear anywhere else in large quantities.

AzuliBluespots To be fair I did considered making it dynamic, The problem is Vintage Story has no biomes so for example detecting a forest would probably require checking for tree log blocks in a area around the player wich could be pretty resource consuming.. I still want to make it dynamic but I will need to look more into it.

This... This is pretty interesting. I still might have to reduce view distance anyway if I want to play with the volumetric lighting mod, but reducing further when there's no way to view ahead anyway is great. Actually, this should be dynamic. I'm gonna suggest a game change.

This was a great idea. Will help a lot of people running potatoes. Of course what is lagging my poor potato is running over 90 mods already, so now what mod do I give up so I can add this one hhmmmmmm. Surely there is something I don't use a lot.
