Features & Info


Wanda's Gadgets and Movement Tweaks (WGMT) adds various gadgets (so far a grappling hook) with plans to expand into player movement changes. However, for anyone seeking just the gadgets, EVERY version of WGMT that changes gadgets will have a "full" and "gadgets only" version. 

  • Grappling hook + mechanics (Swinging, wind up + throw, climb, rappell, etc)
  • Many more planned features

A real-time render of all the tools, shields, backpacks, weapons, etc in your hotbar, suitable for multiplayer

Misaki's Immersive Foliage (MIF): Released! (Bamboo rework soon) NEW CONFIG UPDATE!~
A complete remodel and retexture of Vintage Story's leaves and bushes for a more interesting composition for trees 
and canopies. Runs about 3% faster than vanilla while looking gorgeous too!

Wanda's Gizmos / Movement Tweaks (WGMT): Released! (Rope Config update soon)
A fully-functional grappling hook, with two modes: "Indiana Jones" esque swinging, or "James Bond's grapple-gun" as a mechanized pull. Balanced based on how much rope you have! Will be paired with new movement such as diving, rolling, vaulting, sliding down steep walls, hanging, and more! Each WGMT update will come with two versions, "Pure" grappling hook-only, and "Full" with both grappling hook and the movement tweaks too!

Sofia's Reach-Around (RS): Beta (Initial release Soon)
A port of the quark / MC Bedrock mechanic to place blocks from the top/side without directly looking at the face

Nia's Realistic Soil (MIF): Alpha (Initial release TBD)
A recoloring of all dirt to match the rock strata below it for better blending (don't worry, it won't add 20 new dirt varieties, or need new worldgen)

Just my opinion here, the crafting recipe should be a nail strip, rope, nail strip and possibly a nail strip on top. And the durability of the hook itself should be cut roughly in half (maybe lose 1/3 instead). That way you could remove the need for having rope in your hotbar and it'd still feel balanced and you'd feel inclined to carry a couple of hooks with you. I just personally dislike the rope in hotbar requirement, seems like "fake" balancing, instead of just balancing the actual item. Again, just my opinion

Does the hook only work on stone/rock type surfaces? Cuz that's what it seems like for me.

Swinging like Spider-Man is cool, don't get me wrong, but is there any intention of making a climable rope that stays in place and allows multiple people to use? There was an old minecraft mod that had a grappling hook that after it landed it would basically spawn a ladder (it had a texture to look like rope, of course) down to a set distance (or til it hit bottom, depending on the config) and it stayed there until you broke the hook and picked it up.

You absolute legend, thankyou for creating this! With the new update focused on navigating the world, and the Glider already being implemented, I was really hoping to see a 'Jonas hook' or something similar, that you could use to make the glider more practical for travelling around the world (without having to nerdpole up a mountain every few hundred blocks). This scratches that itch perfectly.

Would love to see an upgrade that auto-pulls you in as you swing, similar to the Titanfall grapple, so you can slingshot yourself into a glide with it - I see human slingshot in the future roadmap, so perhaps you already have that idea. Maybe even a temporal hook that has a set length but can consume temporal gears or similar to create its own anchors midair, like the Strand grapple from Destiny 2?

All of our workflow is currently set up around VS/Windows unfortunately, but I wouldn't mind getting you set up with something similar if you'd be willing to make that initial hurdle.

Alternatively there's a section on this page of the modding wiki that touches on Linux setup, but it's by no means comprehensive.

If all else fails there's some really talented modders in the modding discord that work with Linux, I'm sure they would be willing to get you started if you asked! :)

Yeah I thought about modding it myself.

But I really want to avoid using Vistual Studio and Windows.
Do you by any chance code on Linux with another IDE (Maybe even from Jetbrains)?

I am quite sure I would get there, but idk if I want to put the effort in it to get things started. But if I can lookup a good guide or something like that I may would start it.

There are other mods (of which I am not the author of) planned to have much more detailed systems for a lot of Smart Moving's features, but we're certainly planning on diving/rolling/dash-strafing, and a few others!

Also, those are some interesting ideas, and I recommend you yourself start modding (it's not too bad!) to try to add your ideas. As for Archimedes Ships, it is quite the herculaen task, but something like that will pop up eventually, I'm sure! It's even on the roadmap for Vintage Story itself!!

WIll this go in the direction of Smart movement from MC?
Would be very much appreciated. This is one of the kind of mods missing for me. I am so hyped for the movement part :D.

 

Not for this mod, but Stuff I feel is missing as well:

  • Pottery Barrel.
    • Like a way to turn the storage vessel into an earlier fluid container for tanning and drinking water if specific mods are enabled.
  • Atlatl
    • Probably the first ranged weapon in human history. You can throw spears farther away with it.
  • Archimedes Ships/Danvics Vessels
    • A way to create big boats/airships out of blocks. I only used the boat part.

Hello, I apologize for taking so long, I thought I responded! 
NightstalkerAvi it's about 1.5 blocks of length per rope, but we're working on making the ratio configurable soon! 
LastXsile you do also need a fair bit of rope to get anywhere, so I recommend a stack or two

hoisting/rappelling should be inside of your control settings for hotkeys!!

I apologize for the confusion again. I received many comments early in development on balancing so a lot of the inset systems are static and a little hidden (I tried to get the tooltip to help out but it seems to no avail). I'll be releasing some configs soon!

So from my own little testing just a second ago, it seems the rope requirement/restriction is pretty steep. Load up a slot of your hotbar with rope and see if that helps.
My best guess without looking at anything is that each rope = ~0.8-1.2 blocks of actual slack or length for the hook

So like others it fires but doesn't stick allowing you to repel or hoist. If i was to guess since many people are probably using it id say maybe toolworks is messing with it as it modifies ropes slightly. I can't attest to this being the actual cause, personally the server i play on has alot of mods and would be to hard to narrow down but thats the only thing i could think off the top of my head. Looking forward to using it though once whatever is conflicted is figured out. Thanks for this awesome mod and the other mods you've been pushing out.

I forget what the default keybinds are but you can customize them in the settings to your liking :) Just look for the "Hoist" and "Rappell" options under the movement section.

Heyya! Out of curiosity, how do you climb up the rope of the hook, if you can at all currently?
It's been throwing all right so far, it's just taking a bit to get used to the rope length.

Yes, I did have a stack of rope in my hotbar - the throwing animation would wind up, then my arms would just drop back to my sides. I did a fair bit of testing before I went to sleep last night, and I wasn't able to pinpoint a conflict. I may start a new world to test further and load up with this mod alone and see if it's a client-side issue or some sort of rare bug!

I'm having trouble throwing it as well, I have rope in my hotbar. Nothing's happening lol, though the item picture is changing to what i assume is the 'thrown' state. No other mods active, brand new world.

I'm having an issue where I am unable to throw the grabbling hook - I'm wondering if it's a conflict with another mod. I'm gonna do some testing, and if I find a conflict I'll let you know so it can be shared/remedied!

Amazing mod! With this installed I'm just like Spider Man!.. if Spider Man got hungry, went insane and got killed by drifters!
