This mod is best used on a new world. While it can be used on existing worlds (and safely removed at any time), the result will be that all previously placed glyphs will change appearance.
I enjoy playing without the map and using various tools to navigate and wayfind. One of those tools are cave art glyphs made by chalk and charcoal. Adding new glyphs is surprisingly difficult, and a couple mods tackle this in different ways. I've decided to go about it in a third way and remove the glyphs I personally use the least or couldn't interpret. In their place I've added a few, vanilla-styled glyphs I felt were lacking. Additionally, I've reorganized the glyphs in the GUI into categories that feel more sensible. I've also added a new pigment in the form of bioluminescent larvae. These can be gathered from the top-most section of glow-worm colonies when broken. Because glow-worms are finite (and also beautiful), it is possible to break a single block, replace it, and break it again to gather more larvae. This is an intentional choice to avoid the extinction of glow-worms.
Features:
- Reorganized glyphs.
- Removed uninterpretable glyphs.
- Added new vanilla-styled glyphs.
- New cave art pigments:
- Cyan, made from bioluminescent larvae harvested from glow-worms.
- Blue, created by using lapis lazuli like chalk or charcoal.
- Red, created by using cinnabar like chalk or charcoal.
- Green, created by using malachite ore like hematite ore.

How to switch glyphs?
Is this compatible with Ochre?
How to switch glyphs?
Ha! Well, guess I can uninstall my little changes mod. 😁
I really thought they could all be used, as well. It might be because of how frequently I've used them on wooden signs, though.
CKitt - Yup! It's as simple as that. You can look at how chalk or charcoal behaves as an example. Then they just need the associated colour .png! It's so funny. I thought malachite, lapus, and cinnabar used to have that functionality, but I was surprised recently when they didn't while I was playing. I wonder if I am misrembering, if it was removed in a later version since I last played, or had a mod installed at the time that did it I can't remember. XD
I find myself wanting to add the ability to use cinnabar for red and lapis lazuli for blue pigment, perhaps sulfur for yellow and malachite for green, as well. Did you only have to add the behaviors/ArtPigment to get your glow-worm larvae to behave that way, or did you have to code something further? I see that you did make a PNG for the new symbols/color, but could it be as simple as making a few more and naming them as Cinnabar1, etc., and adding the relevant behavior code to each material? If so, I'll get on that.
I like the demo of the square one, will make leaving messages a lot easier!
That looks very fun! I always forget that we can write on cave walls with chalk/charcoal.
