Hi! This mod is my attempt to make shields more useful and balanced. I can't achieve everything I want by simply patching the configs, but I hope that these changes will help you feel the desired experience.

List of changes:

  • Added copper shield and its variations.
  • The chance of absorbing damage with active use is 100%, and with passive use as much as 25%.
  • The amount of damage that a shield can absorb in 1 hit has been greatly increased to finally serve as a reliable shield. This value depends on the materials of the shield.
  • The durability of all shields has been dramatically reduced to reflect shield behavior more realistically.

Known issues and plans:

  • Crafting wooden-copper shields from multi-colored leather is not available, but you can still upholster a wooden-copper shield with regular leather.
  • Fix leather shields not taking wood type into account when calculating durability.

I will be waiting for your comments!

This is really cool, I think chance based blocking shoulnd't be the main usage of the shield and this mode just fix that, and still having a chance to block damage while being passive is really cool. So now the melee look like a melee, shield walls pushing themself :D

I much prefer how Mount & Blade handles shield usage and shields actually blocking all damage but taking damage more themselves, compared to a chance-based blocking system like in older Bethesda titles and in Vintage Story, so this mod seems like a nice change!
