This mod changes the existing prospectors pick to include a "core sample" search mode. While in this mode, breaking a block with the prospectors pick will sample 64 blocks in a 1x1 line in the direction of the broken block face. Results are reported in the same format as the prospectors pick node search.
This feature is useful in preventing the need to create costly mineshafts into the ground randomly. It fills the gap between creating an ore heatmap with density mode and closing in on the ore with node mode.
This mod could be expanded in the future to change the search distance based on the material of prospectors pick. This is my first mod for VintageStory, so any suggestions are welcome.

I would also love a tiered system. 64 right of the bat seems a bit strong, but I haven't tried it yet. Will have to consult with my server friends.
Great mod, love it as a brand new player, I use it after taking normal samples to see if what I suspect is true
I'd love to see added if possible a range selection, say 16,32,64 blocks, or selectable distances but tied to each tool material, with only steel being able to do a 64 block length search
Love this Mod, it is literally the only way i can prospect cause all other mods jst expand on this cat and mouse game with the ore, with this i can atleast take directional samples
Wow, took the wind out of my sails. Was going to add this functionality to my Rock Sniffer tool for the next release.
I updated the mod to work with v1.20.6, I tested it and it works so hopefully it works for everyone else too!
does not work with one shot propick or at all
Does this still work in 1.19 if anyone knows?
A suggestion I have, is adding a radius based on the tier of metal, from 1x1x64 to 7x7x64, and a config to invert this. So one side of the scale is super precise but bad at catching small nodes, while the other is good at catching small nodes but needs more work to zero in on them. Or just use them in tandem, keep a tier 1 propick for one side and your highest tier propick for the other.
