The bears in this game are too timid. They should be loud and proud of their mighty ursine heritage as they wander about looking for unsuspecting seraphs to brutalize.
This mod makes the bears more vocal about their ursidae pride: They have a much higher chance to growl during their idle wandering, and they will always emit a growl when standing on two legs that can be heard from a further distance (a bit shorter than a wolf howl). The growls are not that loud (very considerate neighbors, them bears) but they should be audible beyond aggro range if the environment isn't too noisy, so attentive seraphs should have some warning that a chonky flurry of claws and teeth lies ahead (plz note that bears do not growl while sleeping and they sleep a lot).
BEWARB: Due to the bears' extreme excitement about being bears, they will occasionally queue up multiple growls in a short span of time, which can sound a little jarring and sometimes create the illusion of more than one bear. Also, I use this in singleplayer, I have no idea how it works for people who aren't hermits (probably only needed server-side).

The Accessibility Tweaks mod could potentially meet your needs, though currently it's not more up-to-date than Noisy Bears:
"Change the volume (0% - 200%), and pitch of every sound in the game, individually."

The server had this and didn't let you join or did you have the mod client-side only? If it's the former, I am probably not smrt enough to figure out why that might be (I use this in singleplayer), but if it's the latter it's likely because this is a server-side mod and the server you're joining is not happy with you having a client-side patch to game assets (the mod could have been blacklisted by the server too I guess?).
unable to join a server with this mod on 1.18.5, no errors related to this mod in the log.
Could you add a number version to your releases so that I can keep track of the latest in my filing system? It'd be much appreciated!

From my experience, I can only say that the mod worked both on 1.18.1 and 1.18.3 after updating the game. I did not experience any problems. Everything was ok in solo and multiplayer. Well, if the author releases an update, that's good! So there is a process of improvement. I will continue to use your mod.
It was working before I updated from 1.18.1 and I guess I haven't encountered a bear since patching, but it is indeed not working in 1.18.3 (I'll have a look to see what broke in the patch but if you're not on 1.18.3 then I'm not sure what could be wrong without any error logs).
EDIT: There was a typo that for some reason 1.18.1 was chill with, but 1.18.3 did not care for. 1.18.3 clearly means business. Updated, new version seems to work fine. Keep in mind that I'm using existing assets, and the growls are not super loud (but they are distinctive once you hear them and should be audible over ambient noise unless it's like a storm or something).
This does not seem to work. If the bears are making any noise at all, it isn't audible even within aggro range. I would really really like it to work, because my world is infested by bears and they love to sneak up on me through the bushes, but I just tested it with a live bear and there was nothing. Even when standing up they are silent. This and ProspectorInfo are the only mods installed, and I don't think there should be a conflict between them.
mcnostril hi, interesting mod idea. Decided to test on a test multiplayer server while your mod works for both player and server. I tweaked modinfo.json a bit by inserting the line - "Side": "Server", works only on the server, the player in turn does not download the mod. The roar of the bear is not loud, I like it. I will put it on the server.
