Adds nine species of New World giant tortoises that spawn in different environments to your world. This mod includes the red-footed tortoise (Chelonoidis carbonarius), the yellow-footed tortoise (C. denticulatus), the Chaco tortoise (C. chilensis), the Galápagos giant tortoise (C. niger), the Bahamian tortoise (C. alburyorum)†, the Cuban giant tortoise (C. cubensis)†, the Mona tortoise (C. monensis)†, Gerson's tortoise (C. gersoni)†, and Marcano's tortoise (C. marcanoi)†.
All adult tortoises added by this mod can be hunted for their shells, which can be used for decoration and are also a taxidermy component. Some tortoises are also a source of bushmeat. If you truly desire to, you can breed them by keeping a male and female tortoise of the same species in an enclosed space with a trough full of fruit or vegetables. Tortoise eggs and baby tortoises can be picked up and transported alive using a bug net, but juvenile and adult tortoises cannot be caught in that manner.
Note: Species marked with † are extinct in the present day but existed within modern human history (the Holocene epoch), justifying their inclusion. These mods include only species that have been alive at some point within the past 12,000 years.
Note: This mod requires version 1.0.1 or later of the mod Bug Net Compatibility (https://mods.vintagestory.at/bugnetcompatibility) to function properly. Issues may occur if that mod is not also installed.
Special thanks to Tenth Architect for the Fauna of the Stone Age taxidermy system, which this mod also uses (although it does not require any FotSA mods and works with or without them).

Hi! I'm also having the issue with troughs. The names of the turtles in the block info overlay is completely unlocalized, resulting in the giant window. I believe what's actually causing the inability to put more portions in is a vanilla bug; the block info overlay takes precedence over any other interaction in its place. Since the names of the turtles make the overlay window so large it overlays the crosshairs, so you can't click on anything if you're pointing at the trough when it has valid feed for tortoises in it. Luckily, I found two workarounds: one is to temporarily disable the block overlay with Ctrl-B or in Settings > Interface, and the other is to face slightly away from the trough with it still visible on-screen, and then hold Alt to use the mouse cursor mode. When your cursor hovers over the trough, the block overlay window will still appear, but if you faced away from the trough correctly, it won't completely overlap, so you can just click on it with the mouse cursor. Either way, though, it's not ideal.
Based on what I can see of the block overlay window, I think the solution is, instead of having each tortoise entity type be assigned to the trough feed (or however it works, I've never worked with trough feed types before) individually, you assign the tortoise creature group to the trough feed. One other mod I use also has unlocalized info in the block overlay, but because it shows up as creaturegroup-casauriidae-*, only one entry exists in the block overlay. So I don't think it's actually about whether the names in the block overlay are localized or not, though I suspect that would help haha.
First of all, your mod is amazing. I love all the tortoises! They make me scream of joy <3
My only question is, am I able to catch the tortoises in cages to move them? Or another way to move them across oceans? I need them in my life

I have been quite busy recently, but I will try my best to look into the trough situation in the future.
so the animals interact with the troughs just fine but the size of thje ist of animals makes the tool tip so large i can only add 1 serving at a time is there any way to condence the list or make it a optinal tool tip
Is there still an issue with not being able to interact with the troughs?
Is this working now for the troughs? Love your mods. Anyone using this in 1.19.4?
i like that they're all seperate, but- uh- maybe you could make a full collection of all your little creature mods in one? and update it whenever you add a new creature, while uploading the seperate file aswell-
Please make a pack of all your awesome critters
dunno if it's something fixable, but all the names makes troughs unable to be interacted with once something edible to the tortoises is in it because the box covers the crosshair

I have released an update that should fix the issue. If it does not, let me know.
