While playing the game I've found that having just deafult map icons is just not enough.

Therefore, I've spent some time and added more icons, that's pretty much it 😀

This mod adds a lot of new icons and suggested names for all of them:


I'm planning to add more icons and improve existing ones a bit, so any suggestions are welcome.

Dracomancer The mod still works fine. Only issue being the terra preta label now. And I think instead of having 3 different peat colors it should rather support the blue & fire clay deposits, maybe even the red & brown clay deposits for those who have it spawn via mods.

Kosher Now that it's marked as a client only mod, my server no longer loads it. Since my server no longer loads it, the server does not send it out to all the clients. This is a major bummer.

You say "but you can always edit modinfo on your server and change it to both" but that's not how the mod system works. If I set it to both on the server, then sure, the server will load it. Connecting clients then get told to download it from moddb. But then the server rejects it because the md5 sums no longer match so the client tries to download the mod again. And again. And again.

The only way to fix this new issue is if every. single. client. edits the mod in the /ModsByServer folder to make the mod be universal again. And they have to do it exactly the same way it was done on the server (be it setting the side line to universal or removing the line altogether)... hah! good luck with that! If the user doesnt get it exactly right (whitespace included), then the server will reject the mismatch and not allow the client to join. :(

I suggest reverting the change.

Yup, due to few complaints from the player I've changed it to client side, but you can always edit modinfo on your server and change it to both - it will force other players to download it.

If i put this on my server would i need to change anything, so it auto downloads for players? i see its currently a client side mod.

after this you'd need 13 to add, is that right?
Ladder down/up as compared to whatever original icon you choose
Redwood (maybe trees can go in the 3 icons already with some color code for them)
purpleheart (maybe a heart with a crown, since purple is usually linked to royalty, or a tree with a heart-shaped canopy)
A decent icon for meteors
There are notable modded creatures that should only spawn in certain areas and can be problematic, like Tigers/big cats, hippos, gators/crocs/big lizards, cassowary.
Do we have a cave icon? A dungeon one? A Mineshaft one? (guess that can just be the ladder downwards)

Maybe one for herbs?

I've investigated VS codebase a bit (cave art system) and on the first glance it looks not that complicated

But due to the code limitations (some genius who was writing that code decided that it would be great idea to allow only Square texture maps, like c'mon - this code should've never passed review phase). Therefore if mod adds new cave-art icons - it should add 1 more row and 1 more column, so I need to add 11 new icons at least (since current map is 6 x 6 and new map should be 7 x 7 or bigger)

Sooooooo, I'll need your help: do you have any wishlist of icons which would be nice to add?

Because only things which I could think about are - new arrows (4 icons), translocator, dungeon.... And that's where my creativity ends :D

Might you be interested in making a mod, that Add's more cave painting options?
I love using cave painting in mines to not get lost, but.... the arrows are kinda limited. i wonder how hard it might be to convert these icons into more cavepainting icons =o
If you think you might be able to make something like this, for cave painting, would love to use it for my server~ <3

Done, both changes are done - mod is changed to client side, and new icon is added for hollowed tree trunk

Aha, it was intentional decision - to make it "both" sides mod (it's listed like that in mod db).

The reason for that - I wanted to include it as "required" into servers where it is installed.

But now I see that it was pretty bad decision :D today will post new version of the mod with "side": "client"

For those of you who could not get this to work in multiplayer servers, open up the modinfo.json file and add the following 1 line after the first line ending in a comma:

"side": "client",

Fixed my problem where I had no other mod installed while logging into a server with zero mods and without the above line added, the mod did not show up in the world map area but with it enabled, it worked and appeared; however, if the line was not added and I entered singleplayer, it would work but not work in multiplayer. Odd, eh?

If you are not good with this type of stuff, just c&p the following until mod author updates their modinfo.json file:

Can we get one of a Hollowed Tree Trunk or Hollowed Log? One to use basically with primitive survival's Hollowed Tree Trunk would be nice! I don't see any other mod that has this so that is why I am asking you since I like your icon styles :D

Easy, but I don't want to make too much icons as one mod, probably I will just create new one just of letters.

But only after finishing this bad-boy update

(Yup, I've finally figured out how Way-Point-Names-Suggestion code works, so now all my waypoints will have suggested names when you select color and icon :D )

Unfortunately that's known issue with 1.17, due to specific on game's codebase, but in 1.18 it's resolved, so, looking forward for stable release

You need to start the game with the minimap turned off. Open the options before loading a game, tick off the minimap option, load your map and they work. For some reason, this mod doesn't like when it loads the minimap with the  world and just doesn't work right.
Press F6 a few times for the minimap to appear again while playing. Always turn it off before you stop playing or before you load your world.

I have this installed and can select and place the new icons but the new icons appear as all the same icon on the map. I am playing single player.

if it is not TOO much hassle, could you please, Please, add this to the drawing markers system as well? i use the charcoal/chalk (and modded colors) marking SO much in the caves, on trees, and such to naviagte sans-full-map, and this would be a godsend.  P.S. oh, and maybe an icon for each reading size on an ore check? that way we can label "copper abundant" or "tin low" as we try to pinpoint a center

Thank you for good question basically you have 3 options:

A) Send me icons which you would like to use and I can quickly add them into mod

B) Use IconRegistrationService from my Git as an example how you can do it as part of your mod

C) Wait for next major game release, since per discussion in this thread - with next game release adding new icons for the map should become Waaaaay simpler task:

For some reason, I'm unable to change a marker icon to any of the new ones by right-clicking it on the map. The default dot one is used instead.

Icons are properly shown in Cartographer mod, but not on the in-game map.

I see this issue is known. Any chance for a fix? Because this starting method breaks the Cartographer mode.

I'll admit that I am in a wierdly pedantic mood right now, so if you read all this and just shrug. That is 1,000% okay. Loving the mod so far! 😁😁😁

A note on the Periodic Symbols provided:
Rhodochrosite is not a Rhodium ore, it is a Manganese Carbonate. I'm not aware of a Rhodium ore in the game as of 1.17.9.
ore/stone in game - Element name - Element symbol
 Rhodochrosite - Manganese - Mn

That said, the fallowing are in the game by default:
 Ilmenite - Titanium - Ti
 Pentlandite - Nickel - Ni
 Chromite - Chromium - Cr
 Alum/Bauxite - Aluminum - Al

Two ores / elements I've found referenced in some of the game's files but have never found in game are 
 Stibnite - Antimony - Sb
 Wolframite - Tungsten - W

Maybe also add ones for other non-metalic elements:
 Halite - Sodium - Na
 Sylvite/Saltpeter - Potassium - K
 Borax/Kernite - Boron - B
 Fluorite - Fluoine - F
 Phosphorite - Phosphorus - P

I would also suggest a Different symbol for Meteoric Iron just to make it easier to deliniate iron ore veins from Meteor Craters. IRL Iron rich meteors are usually made up of natural Iron-Nickel alloys called Kamacite and Taenite. So maybe the map icon can be MFe [there isn't an element with just 'M" as it's symbol] or maybe Kam or Tae?

If the solution from "Important: known issue" section don't work for you - it means that some of installed mods messes up UI initialization workflow, just in case, may I ask you to make small screencapture of you joining the game, and attach your installed mods lists which you are using - maybe something will catch my eye

Treasure Hunter - stack of coins/gears
Luxuries - Jeweled ring
Commodities - Sack [flour or seed, think burlap sack]
Agroculture - Sprout [tiny stem with two leaves]
Artist - Paintbursh or Painting
Clothing - Shirt, Pants, or Spool & Sewing Needle
Building Matterials - Birck Block [Maybe a '?' block ala Super Mario]
Survival Goods - Bread Loaf
Furniture - Bed or Lantern

I've checked Auto Map Markers source code, and unfortunately that mod only uses default icons, but we can ping author of that mod to also use custom icon in the list that he generates on the ui

RogueRaiden yeah, with a codebase that I've created it's really easy to add new ones

And besides that per comment from Tyron - in 1.18 Adding new map icons is simplified to adding a .svg file to textures/icons/worldmap, so no code or config changes needed. So my codebase will be really simplified

It would also be nice to have icons with chemical symbols of most ores, for example:
Fe - iron.
Cu - copper.
Ti - titanium.
Bi - Bismuth.
Zn - Zinc.
Sn - Tin.
