coolinbarrel_0.5.3.zip 1-click install

Synopsis

Are you tired of running to the next lake with your tongs or try to make a full block of water somehow look nice in your smithy?

Did you expect a barrel full of water to be able to cool down a hot piece of metal somehow?

Then you have come to the right mod! 😁

Put any item into the inventory slot of a barrel filled with liquid and watch it cool and sizzle like in bodies of water.

Details and Compatibility

Should work with all items that are hot for whatever reason. Should work with vanilla barrels and woodbarrels.

v.0.5.3: Compatibility with the UsefulStuff quenching system. Actually no real dependency on the other mod exists, if you have a UsefulStuffConfig.json then quenched will be applied like configured in there.
Note: Quenching in a barrel will also apply to everything that is hot and gets cooled, so chisels and third-mod-tools will profit too. Second Note: For the quenched buff to do anything you still need UsefulStuff active.

This definitely needs to be in the vanilla game. My late husband was a blacksmith and he quenched in a plastic (!) bucket. Good thing he didn't have to run to the nearest pond to throw his stuff in. LOL

OMG Cind! You are amazing! Thank you

>rolling pins aren't actually tools

That's funny.

Just to be clear, without UsefulStuff or a UsefulStuffConfig.json my mod will add no bonuses or properties. It works just like vanilla water, but within barrels.

A Culinary Artillery seems to introduce no items with a tool property, so UsefulStuff will not apply to it, even when using it together with my mod.

If you are not talking about the bonuses, but just the cooling down, then it should behave like vanilla water and cool down literally any item that is hot for any reason, no UsefulStuff required.

So in the case of something like A Culinary Artillery would you ened to have UsefulStuff added to quench some of their tools or should the mod handle those items without UsefulStuff?

💬 Cind12Author, Nov 7th 2023 at 5:11 PM

The short answer: Nothing, except that they don't stack with unquenched stuff anymore.

The technical answer:

They (ingots, strips, moditems) will be assigned the quenched attribute (items with different attributes do not stack together). This is not shown in the UI though (but can be seen with .edi).

The useful stuff mod then does the following:

If something that has the "tool"-property set (to anything) is crafted from something with the quenched attribute, it also gets the quenched attribute.
If something with the quenched attribute is asked about its maxDurability its answer is increased by 20%.

Since ingots and nails are not asked about their maxDurability and armor, lamps or chests are not tools, there should be no unexpected consequences.

If something annoying happens to your quenched ingots or nails please tell me :)

To everything hot that gets quenched? What happens if I quench an ingot or nails and strips (and then try crafting with it)?

💬 Cind12Author, Nov 7th 2023 at 12:00 PM

Okay.

Added with version 0.5.3. If you have a UsefulStuffConfig.json in your ModConfig folder and in there it says "QuenchEnabled": true then the barrels will apply the quenched buff.
While "QuenchBonusMats" materials are respected, I decided to apply the buff to everything hot that gets quenched, not only the vanilla toolheads like the UsefulStuff mod does.
So Chisels, Scissors and items from other mods should get the quenched buff too.

What the quenched buff actually does is still up to the UsefulStuff mod to improve compatibility if they change that. So you still need that mod to feel a difference.

Now if you can make compatibility with Useful Stuff's Quenching bonus, you'd be amazing!

Oh yeah, this is the good stuff. Quality of life immersion mods make this game soo much better.
