Latest file for v1.18.6:
BetterMoisture.zip
1-click install
- Feature: Farmland touching water does not dry out;
- Instead of 75%, 50%, 25% for 1, 2 and 3 blocks away from water, the new lowest percentages are 100%, 80%, 60%.
- Feature: Farmland dries out proportional to how far it is from water.
- So 2 blocks away 100% > 80% takes the same time as 3 blocks away 100% to 60%
- Feature: Farmland dries out in a set, predictable time (48 hours from 100% to the lowest percentage possible)
- Feature: Farmland hydrates from rain
These features are possible in part due to following bug fixes
- Bug fix for farmland moisture being completely broken due to incorrect rain calculations pre 1.18.7
- Bug fix for farmland moisture percentage not updating in the UI at the top
- Bug fix for farmland moisture drying out in bursts when leaving and rejoining area or sleeping (made worse in 1.18.8)
Works with the NET7 version of the game. (1.18.6 unstable and 1.18.8+)

Amzd Could you include compatability for CAN crops farmland?
I am using the "Jul 24th 2023" verison of Better Moisture with Vintage Story 1.19.4 and everything seems to be working properly. My crops are at 100% with no manual watering, just using rows of water next to rows of farmland.
Will this mod be updated? Living in a super rainy area is great for the farm but really dreary to live in rain all the time.
JD2 yea farmland doesn't take into account how many water blocks are nearby, just the distance to the closest one.
Just wanted to mention that I tested the current version (1.0.0) of this mod on the new release of 1.19.0, and everything seems to be working. The only anomaly I noticed is that when disabling the mod without restarting the game causes this mods effects to "stick" until a restart. I honestly thought that 1.19.0 included this mod in vanilla at first.
Amzd If you've seen the code for moisture, is it a bug that the moisture doesn't stack from multiple close water sources? Like if farmland was set out XOXXXOX, with the O as the water source, the middle X of the three wouldn't have the stacked moisture from the nearest water sources. If this alone was fixed then irrigation would be much easier and consistent (aside from the instant dry out bug).

Thank you, I'm so tired of my farmland right next to an entire pond of water magically drying out lol.
The crops could be underwater and the game would still say the farmland was dry lol.
Why is this not being addressed in the main game?! Thanks so much for these fixes ^_^
Yeah there was a bug added that is also fixed by my fix for "drying out in bursts" haha Thauma
I have to say that I find it amusing that this mod, despite being made for an older iteration of the net7 framework, works in 1.18.8 and fixes a critical bug that was introduced in that version. In 1.18.8 moisture doesn't work at all and crops just dry incredibly fast no matter how much you water them. It is also incredibly inconsistent with some soil going from 100% to 10% in less than a day, while others keeping their moisture. Not to mention that the soil did not update when someone else watered it on a server. With this mod, it is clear that watering soil works properly, and the soil displays correct numbers and moisture is lost at the correct speed (100 to 0% in 48 hours). Thank you for this mod.
I think the problem is how it's compiled with net7 but this is my first mod so not sure. I can only say for sure that it works on the net7 version of the game (the stable version does not run on my Linux so can't test) if any modders want to try compiling it for the stable version they are welcome to.

Doesn't seem to work for 1.18.7. The soil in my greenhouses are still 75-50 instead of 100-80.
