Allow cattail, tule, and papyrus roots to be used in stews, soups, porridge and other dishes.

Has it ever bothered you that you can put a cattail root on a stick and roast it over an open fire, but you aren't allowed to put it in a pot and boil it? It has certainly bothered me, which is why I made this little mod.

How it works

Place cattail, tule, or papyrus roots in the crafting grid with a knife to obtain "Peeled reedroot".

Peeled reedroot can be eaten raw for 50 sat, so if you are stuck somewhere with no other options and no time to build a fire, you can use them to stave off starvation.

Peeled reedroot can be used in stews, soups, porridges and scrambled eggs just like any other vegetable, but they cannot be put in pies.

Important!

There is an error in version 1.0.0 of this mod that will crash your game whenever a piece of rotting reedroot tries to transition to a quantity of rot.

This has been fixed in version 1.0.1, so please upgrade!

ZippyWonderdust Thanks,  No more crash :)

Ha!

I think I found it -- a small oversite in the Reedroot JSON file.  When it turns to rot it tries to reference a nonexistant item code.  Darned namespace errors are so easy to make; it was trying to instantiate "zippyscattailstew:rot" (which doesn't exist) instead of just plain-old "game:rot".

I don't suppose you have some peeled reedroot in your inventory that is more than 2 days old...?

I've gotta run a few errands right now, but I'll post a fixed version of the mod as soon as I'm back home.

Thanks for the feedback!

EDIT:

Yup.  Tested it in my dev instance and that definitely appears to be the problem.  I can make it crash by simply waiting for the first piece of reedroot to rot.

Sorry!

Updated version is now available.

ZippyWonderdust Well, what I can say is that I tried deactivating all my mods, save it back to normal and I tried to pinpoint which mod was causing problem. If I activate Cattail Stew, shit is not responsive, if I deactivate Cattail Stew, stuff runs fine.

What I don't understand is that it was running fine until I had a cave in on my ass, from there, save went to shit whenever Cstew is activated

Oh dear!

Unfortunately that log excerpt doesn't give me much to work with.  It's complaining about a bad or null object reference but it doesn't say which object so it's hard to tell if my mod is to blame, and if so, how.

If you can reliably reproduce this fault by loading/unloading my mod without changing anything else, please open an issue on the issue tracker so we can continue the conversation there and avoid spamming this comment thread.

Ok, I think this mod is crashing my game. Everything seemed fine and dandy until it wasn't and the game stops responding when this mod is active. Screenshot of the log: image
