Changes have been made to the config file, please remove the old one from the modconfig folder to fix any errors - Added by Window Storage Lib

For issues with Linux please update to the latest version of Window Storage Lib (1.2.3) where it has been fixed - Thanks to Toyota for helping me with testing

For those that prefer a vanilla playthrough there is Vanilla Pane Storage - no animations/wind sound just a standard pane with storage

Great News!! I have added glass back into the windows, the new update has fixed the particle rendering issue on animated transparent parts.

Changed Aged back to the original colour, Aged planks/boards us another texture so I have made one that is as close to the debarked colour as I could but as planks specifically for the windows.
Added a Very Aged Variant that matches the Aged planks/boards, this can be crafted by placing an aged window in the centre of the crafting grid, can be swapped between versions using the same recipe.

I have also visually removed the glass from the windows, the leaded still has the pattern. Let me know what you think as this was the only way, after alot of testing with code, variants and animation, that I am able to display particles like rain,clouds etc. through them while keeping the lit/unlit, the slots and the smooth animations intact.

Have added variants for Unleaded Windows (Plain Only) - does not work with Vanilla Varnished for plain windows. Wildcraft and Vanilla work fine.


Features that I couldn't implement
The room stays sealed no matter whether open or closed so won't effect cellar score
You will not see particles out of the animated window section, everything else renders fine
Unable to add particles to items like candles as I couldn't find a way to make them show in the right area due to the size changes of items
Removed the perish rate timer as couldn't get it to be accurate, items still perish at the appropriate rate and it still says what the rate multipler is

There should be a crash log that pops up when the game crashes or in the logs folder, send that so I can see. Also make sure you have the correct dependencies on the right versions.

its fine when dropped, only crashes when placed. it might be a script? but that doesn't explain why it works fine when running intergrated

Not a mod issue then, could be a driver issue?? I couldn't really say tbh, as if it works on integrated then it should definitly work on a dedicated gpu. I have tested alot and not had a crash and have placed a ton of windows. Sorry I couldn't be of more help

Calminaion I've had a very similar experiance on a private multiplayer server. When a window from this mod is placed in world or (rendered for the first time after placement), I and another player crash to desktop without any relevant logs if we are in rendering range, never happens when looking when looking at the windows in the handbook. We are the only 2 out of 4 on the server that crash, though all players are on nvidia cards with up to date drivers, me and the other player are both on the native linux client; the windows users do not crash and can use the mod fine. I suspect that toyota might also be a linux client user?

This might be helpful for troubleshooting, I'm currious if any linux player can use the mod. There's nothing relevant in any of the logs for my client or the server, I simply time out, and stdout just says the game segfaulted with no further info.

If you use the same pattern as the oak but use a different wood it will make that version. In 1.5.35 I made it so only some show in the handbook but all of the wood variants are able to be crafted.

witchcure Ok I see, it is material needs. It adds dark aged wood and light aged wood. My mod reads from the vanilla paths so it won't pick up the dark aged which is in it's own folder.

You will have to ignore it for now if you plan to wait for 1.22 full release. My latest versions for 1.22 uses ARL so won't have this issue going forward.

WindyDay I have added a patch so it fits on them, not tested that mod so not sure how it adds the pics, if it needs to interact when placed on a block then not likely to work, if it makes its own item with a pic in it that can be moved then should work fine.

AnusVietnam Sorry to hear you are having issues, these are resolved for the 1.22 version of the game. The windows all play the wind sound so that seems to cause the bug, same with the stacking audio with rain, I only ever tested with a handful of them so never ran into the issue. The 1.22 version has the wind sound removed as the windows will use the ambient sound when open instead and the rain is only played by one window but the audio is played at the players head so works much better. Having them turned off is the best workaround atm.

Hey there! I just experienced a strange audio bug with the windows. I am playing with version 1.5.35 with VS 1.21.6 and have 148 mods loaded. The bug I experienced was an audioloss in OpenAL, where the sound file "wind-window.ogg" could not load with exception: "could not get source ID". The bug caused all player and world sounds to be silenced or greatly minimized. I tried removing Forest and Cave sympohny which partially restored sounds but then my client log starting reporting the "wind-window.ogg" error. I reenabled cave+forest symphony, set both wind and rain sounds to false in the window storage config, and deleted the wind-window.ogg file. Doing these actions restored my game sounds.

 

For context, I have almost 150 windows from this mod placed around my base and have been using this mod perfectly fine for about 80 hours in my 100 hour world. The bug occured when approaching my base after caving, a rainstorm started (which I could hear), but all my player interaction sounds broke. Thanks for a great mod and hope the 1.22 version is coming along nicely!

Manthony In the 1.22 game version of the mod the audio for the rain on window sound works better now so no more stacking.

Coyot The wind sound has been removed in the 1.22 game version of the mod as now when the window open it uses the ambient weather audio instead of a custom one.

something seems off about the rain sounds on the window. having multiple windows near eachother seems to stack sounds. with more sounds its louder and degraded. im just a dummy but is there a way to group emitters so windows next or near eachother emit one sound as a group rather than 5 of the same sound at once.

Love the mod.

Wondering if we can get the recipie for the hopper style window changed to have the wooden board under the pane (or however).

At the moment you can only craft one hopper style window at a time because putting more than one glass pane in the crafting grid in that arrangement defaults to the sliding window.

Snorlaxatives The 1.5.5/6 Mod version only works on the 1.22.0.pre-1 due to changes/improvements. Now that you are using the correct version there shouldn't be any issues as technically there is no glass texture in those windows. Have you tried breaking the windows and replacing them? Also clear the cache just to be sure.

The windows seem to derender some blocks behind them.

Doesnt appear to be an issue with vanilla windows, though i havent tested it very much.

Using VS roofing fro the roof, that could affect it...  edit: the ceiling behind the windows is actually downward facing slabs

But it seemed like some of the chiseled wall was also not rendered in some cases

ChimMAG Hi, I left bloc in there just incase Vanilla Varnished adds versions of Birch, Kapok and Larch. The reason there is so many is all the variants, need them for all the vanilla woodtypes unlit/lit leaded/plain, wildcraft unlit/lit leaded/plain and vanilla varnished unlit/lit leaded/plain. The plain is added when unleaded windows is installed. So there is a lot of combinations when all 3 of the mods are installed with this one. Wildcraft makes alot of the file due to so many woodtypes.

Sometimes mod authors remove something from a mod or change something in it, and some of the strings become irrelevant but still remain in the language file. There are 2,679 strings in a mod that adds 7 windows, which is a lot.

I'm getting a ton of tesselation errors when starting a new world.

Codyman765 I have implemented the colour/recipe change, turns out it isn't overlay, at least for the debarked, for some reason debarked aged texture used in panes is different to aged planks/boards one. I have made a new plank texture that uses the colours of the debarked to compensate for this now. Hopefully it looks close enough.

Codyman765 The main issue is that the aged planks are crafted with aged boards, they all use the aged texture but without the slightly darker overlay. The vanilla panes etc. look lighter because of that overlay. It's an inconsistency with vanilla that I noticed, the other very aged stuff isn't craftable as there isn't any very aged boards so I would have to think of another way to change the colour. Tbh I would rather not have to add very aged boards etc to make this work.

Calminaion Still love your mod to bits, Read over the comments here and I can see why you made the change to match the wood texture. However now this causes a new issue in the verison you just put, about an hour ago as of writing this.
Your "aged" windows types no longer match the in game "aged" window pane, as they now use the "Very aged" texture rather then the old one you used, which matched with the existing in game windows.

May I suggest simply making two versions of this? one "aged" and one "very aged" in the same vein as how the age vs very aged wood beams are like? Bringing back the old matching wood color, and adding a "very aged" color using the more aggressive green?

Janeator Ah I see, animated parts don't seem to work with transparent textures that's why I took it out. Shame, but I would rather have particles and correct nightime colours than glass, at least for now. Maybe they will fix it eventually. Also I have figured out why the aged variant looked different, I used the slightly darker overlay, doesn't drastically change the other woods but for some reason makes the aged look very different so that will be sorted in the next update.

The above window, from Kevins Furniture, uses semitransparent glass, thus even though it's nighttime you can see incorrectly rendered clouds (which is what the game does usually). Yours correctly renders water and clouds (and particles if there were) behind it - fully dark at night - because it's not rendering something semitransparent on top of it. I prefer this, although clearly there is no glass coloring to it, but unfortunately it creates visual incoherence when next to other glass in the game, which is a bit of a bummer.

Janeator I can't see your pic as I am in the UK and the site is blocked. I tested and see what you mean about the aged planks, Vanilla does the same as I have with the colour of the wood. I am gonna change textures to planks so it all matches the image is of debarked wood and needs a code change which I would rather not do. With the glass, I have basically removed the texture that was transparent as a workaround but kept leaded pattern, so there shouldn't be any issues. If you can resend the pic with another image site then I can see what you mean.

Also, your workaround for the particles results in different rendering of semitransparent objects behind... which is to say, it renders water and clouds actually correctly because no other semitransparent texture is displayed in front of them, but when put next to other glass as in my nighttime screenshot, you can see it causes a discrepancy (because usually the game incorrectly renders stacked semitransparent materials).

Calminaion See this for example: Your aged window on top of aged wooden planks. In this specific instance I think it looks okay, but I think it's a bummer if I can't gell the sill to be as dark as aged planks ever.

Hello, first I'd like to say that I love the windows, they're great! However I'm having an issue with them causing a crash. We're using quite a few mods and I'm not sure if somehow I've missed something, but the log is being spammed with a warning about a missing audio file about 50 times per second, ultimately leading to a thread crash message. There isn't much info in the log to go off of but it culminates in the following.

Cattsy Thanks for that, with Vanilla Varnished I have to do each wood as using {wood} doesn't work I think its cos of varnished-oak instead of varnishedoak. I have thrown it at AI to write it out properly as there is a lot and seems to have worked better than me copy, pasting and editing. I will upload the fix on the weekend

Hi, I'd like to notify about a small bug with Vanilla Varnished Planks mod patch: all the storage window variants have the same crafting recipe, which results in only one type (sliding if I remember?) being craftable in survival. At first I just swapped them in creative, but after updating the issue persisted, so I checked the json. For some reason it's just this one patch, others are written fine (I assume the effects in-game are also fine, never checked in practice lol).

HaraiseTenshi I put that incase someone asks about it, couldn't implement that feature so did a workaround with perish rate change and wind sounds. Will change the wording of that part to make more sense.

Regarding the "rooms stays sealed" 'bug' thats just how rooms work.

 

Only thing it might possibly changenis thst the cellar score is going to reduced if the window is open, but a Block is either insulating, then its valid for a room, or it is not then no room will be created

Paperkarma722 I have added compat for it, I have only done it for plain windows and do not plan on adding for the colours or the styles. They work with Vanilla and Wildcraft, do not work with Vanilla Varnished as that needs to be added by Unleaded Windows author

I'm glad, I was worried that could corrupt my save for whatever reason, it happened before. Loving the mod so far, I always had to chisel a whole window in order to fill these spaces, and lost the ability to hear the rain sounds in the glass, it's such a conforting sound.

Kalmorph Sorry about that I did put a warning in 0.0.9 as thats when I made the change to the codes to allow lights to be placed and that it would break the old windows. I'll make sure to add that next time on all future updates as a standard warning, just incase someone is updating from a much older version. As for breaking the save it should be fine as the latest updates clears the ghost animations that get left behind when breaking old windows. Thanks for the feedback. I also made the warning clearer

Hey man, I updated the mod without removing the windows and caused textures to be borked. I removed the windows, restarted both game and client, then placed them again. This shouldn't break my save in any way, right?
Just a silly thing but help wonders, updates that needs special steps such as removing the windows before updating should be specified in the changelogs. ModDB notified me you updated the mod and clicking the notification takes me directly to the Files tab, not the Description, and caused me to miss the warning.

I love this mod, although it looks like players can break blocks or hit entities through the window panes. It's almost like they have no collision at all, only at their base.

not sure what exactly caused it, but after having the windows for a few ingame days (across multiple sessions) the sliding part of the window just exists as its own uninteractable thing when opening/closing and even after breaking the window.

I don't know how difficult this would be from a technical aspect but have you considered half depth windows so that the exterior would sit flush with a slab wall instead of full block for instance?

WintersRaine Thanks glad you like that aswell. That's cool he's doing that, good luck to him and hope to see what he makes. It is a fair bit easier than C# especially when you can see what vanilla does with them and use them as a base. If you're like me and don't do tall windows then I added a little craftable wooden vent that has the rain on window sound as a little workaround.

WintersRaine Thank you :) If you make tall windows then that is a way to get the rain sound working so that is a workaround or my other mod Desk Picture Frames Plus has the same style windows with built in picture frames that can be customised and they have the rain sound on them.

The_Box Thank you so much :) I need to add vanilla items to it which may take a bit of time. I had to use the Class:BlockMoldRack as that was the only viable option for me so nothing works as default. I'm gutted about the sounds aswell, that is restricted to BlockRainAmbient Class and there is no way to use both classes without me making my own, I can just about make Json files so C# is a bit beyond me.

I ADORE this and I desperately want to play with it.  I've wanted to see shelves and usable window sills for ages, and this is awesome.  I'm not sure I'm willing to let go of my rain on window sounds though.
