Latest release (for Vintage Story 1.21.1, outdated):
WarmerLighting_v1_0_2.zip  1-click install

Lighting is very important to me, and the bleak yellow of most man-made lighting disturbed me.

This mod is a very simple patch for torches, candles, firepits, oil lamps, and lanterns to saturate the reds and make the progression of light more tangible. Nothing is changed mechanically speaking.

This mod does not change the spawn conditions of rust enemies! If you want to prevent monsters from spawning in your home, mods such as brayanluc's Low Light Spawns should do just fine.

- Removed all dependencies -- Shouldn't prevent you from playing on older versions anymore!

  • Fixed torch holders not being affected by the custom values.

This may be the only update to this mod. However, I'll look into any requests.

Moltenhead Is there anywhere that this fork is uploaded? Would like to try it

Hey friends! I hope you dont mind I added your code into my patch for the server I am running. I needed to patch a few values and this way its a bit easier

Looks good! Not sure what people are on about the lighting, makes sense you've just adjusted colors.

Mod makes lights useless, and mods that reduce the spawn brightness don't work because the range of the actual "light" given off from blocks is miniscule.

literally in the 12 hours since that comment i made, somebody made a mod to do it.. im gonna link it in the description :]

jabes  sorry to hear abt that (and also the late reply) i actually didnt consider mob spawns at all while making this mod at all...

if its still a problem at all, there are mods that alter the spawn conditions of rust creatures, such as this one by MarsBlackthorn, though i've heard mixed accounts of incompatibility with newer versions?

either way, i dont believe ill be adding this functionality into the mod itself anytime soon. a bit too broad!

cool mod, it gives me an idea...

Someone should make a mod like this but instead of messing with candles and torches, it makes the plates put into lanterns change the colours

Is there a way to keep the anti spawns value while having the same effects on lights?
ATM - and after some tests - your mod is making early lights unuseable => they practically only turn non spawnable the block where they are put which realy goes against the core mechanism of the game.

EDIT: Did a self patch to obtain the same colors with default game light intensity values. It's a bit less gloomy and damages a little bit the dark fantasy ambiance, but its very much more preferable for gameplay's sake.
I'll upload a "fork" of your mod with default light levels - obviously will credit your base mod as its origin. Don't hesitate to come back to me if you are producing something similar on your side: I'll remove mine if you do so.
Have a great day!

I love it but I feel like I constantly have drifters spawning in my house due to the lower lighting level

i like it

caroline you're so goated this is why we feed you the hefty redmeat stew

Tya AgentOfChaos Newest verison has no dependencies, so the server shouldn't complain anymore. Let me know!

Tya, Sep 23rd 2025 at 1:11 AM

caroline It does need a backport. Mods for newer game versions don't load with older ones and throws a dependency error.

AgentOfChaos, Sep 23rd 2025 at 12:38 AM

If it could be done, I would appreciate it

caroline , Sep 22nd 2025 at 9:59 PM

@AgentOfChaos I'll look into backporting, even though I didn't think it'd be necessary?

Also I just fixed an oversight with torch holders. If you want infinite torchlight, I recommend updating. I'm in a rush, so let me know if something is wrong.

AgentOfChaos, Sep 16th 2025 at 12:47 AM

wish for a 1.20.12 backport. looks nice though.

Samogitia, Sep 15th 2025 at 5:06 AM

Any images with comparison between your mod and vanilla would be realy nice.

Tya, Sep 15th 2025 at 4:31 AM

Seens to on 1.20.x with a quick version change. Would love if one got uploaded so that I could include this in my server
