Latest release (for Vintage Story 1.22.0 - 1.22.5, potentially outdated):
vintagescreens_0.3.11.zip 1-click install
Now you can add working TV (video players) into your nice house :D.
Installation:
First close Vintage Story if it's running right now.
Easy way
1. Download FFmpeg (BAT) installer from here: mega.nz
2. Extract it anywhere and run "INSTALL_FFMPEG_FOR_VINTAGE_SCREENS.bat"
(accept if any antivirus will say something [it's just not trusted cause it's not registered in their database... but this is the only easy way])
Thats all, now install Vintage Screens and run Vintage Story ;)
Bit harder way but no BAT file
1. Download Vintage Screens and place the mod ZIP file in:
%APPDATA%\VintagestoryData\Mods (regular mod installation)
2. Install FFmpeg. Vintage Screens requires FFmpeg to decode video and audio.
Recommended Windows installation:
winget install --id Gyan.FFmpeg -e
Official download page:
https://ffmpeg.org/download.html
Thats all, now run Vintage Story ;)
Multiplayer/server
The mod must be installed on the server and on every connecting client.
FFmpeg is required only on the computers of players watching the videos.
The game server doesnt download, store or transmit the video files.
For synchronized multiplayer playback:
1. Upload your video to Mux:
https://www.mux.com/
2. Make sure the video has a PUBLIC Playback ID.
3. Copy the Playback ID, not the Asset ID.
4. Select Mux on the TV and paste the Playback ID.
## Controls
RMB: turn the TV on or off
Ctrl+RMB: choose or change the video source
Local files are intended for offline/singleplayer use.
Mux playback is synchronized between players in multiplayer.
You cannot craft TV's, the only way to get it is to find proper trader that sells it :).
If you got more ideas for different screens, you can support me on Ko-fi, this way you can push the mod to the next level and you really help me make more TV variants and to develop more/existing mods!

This would be absolutely awesome... if I could figure out how to use the Mux website...
Having this issue on 1.22.6, when playing using MUX on a mp server, i get a black screen. Audio comes through but no video, the audio is synced serverwide but the video is black for everyone. Did not have this issue on first use when it was just the server owner using it as i didnt have the ffmpeg installed
(Edit!)
Found out that it works 60% of the time if it is on an angle, as in if im looking at the corner and then place it, causing the screen to be diagonal
i have no idea what causes video to work and not work at times
My only current gripe is using mux sometimes the video gets desynched with the audio. Is there a way you can make it so the mod checks a folder, and if both players have the same file in said folder it plays for both?
oh, also maybe something like a remote that can store the video ID's so you don't have to go fishing for the Mux ID/video file every time
Hmm, strange that you got desync audio and video :(. I'll try to add folder based (client side) option for servers, so all players will need to download same videos with same name/ID, to choose it on server, but it may take some time to make it and test it
Does it work with youtube?
Nope, Mux (multiplayer) or local (singleplayer) only
I'm not sure if I've done something wrong, but FFMpeg isn't installing. The .bat just says it's checking whether it's already installed, and nothing else.
Thank you for reporting this 😅. You did nothing wrong. The previous installer could get stuck during a hidden WinGet check on some Windows systems.
I have replaced it with a fixed version that skips that check and displays the full installation progress. Please download the new FFmpeg installer, extract it, run the BAT file, and restart Vintage Story afterward.
Alternatively, you can open Command Prompt and run:
winget install --id Gyan.FFmpeg -eIf Windows says that
wingetis not available, install or update App Installer from the Microsoft Store and restart Windows. I hope this will help ;)Peak example video's mate :)
It looks very interesting but all the things we have to do during installation do scares me
I just simplified that a bit by adding BAT file, but I don't know how many people will use BAT file, cause usually when people see BAT file, they say "oh oh a virus"... especially when their antivirus will say "OH OH ITS A VIRUS", and it probably will say, cause its simple script that no antivirus has registered yet so its automatically untrusted = virus for them... but this is the only way to do everything automatic in such mod...
