What?
Have you ever wanted to have nagware in your game? Do you enjoy spam and scam in your chatbox? Search no more!
While other companies look for ways to IMPROVE the gaming experience, racing, bounding, sprinting to implement the newest technologies (such as: making games play themselves; AI chatbot providing misinformation at any moment), we take a few steps backward without turning around. It's a tripping hazard.
I had a vision under the shower that what people CRAVE is a parasocial relationship with a piece of software, an element of randomness just like the widely-loved lootboxes, and what basically amounts to disembodied voices in their chat. The character in the mod icon is Malvarie. Don't be shy, say hi!
Content
The mod currently contains:
- random chatter, including ads and news articles (slowly expanding, small humanmade set of) (see the first screenshot attached)
- death messages
- chatting with malvarie (try mentioning her name in your messages! you can ask her questions, for example: Malvarie, is it safe outside? No warranty, no promises regarding accuracy. Also see the other screenshot attached)
- configuration available through commands (use /help malware for details)
- game closing itself when you press the quit button

Project state
Indefinite work in progress. I thought this may be a funny idea, so if it catches on or if the concept has any appeal, I may put more effort into it.

Make a PR on github, or a comment here, all contributions are very welcome! If you can think of any jokes, chatter, ads, news, anything else to randomly show up in the chat, please send it over in a comment or in a github issue.
AI statement
This mod was made with 0% AI. Instead, real stupidity was employed to make it silly on purpose. Enjoy gourmant shitposts.
The mod also does not contain any AI, LLM, ML techniques. Maybe something simple like ELIZA with a VS-themed script could fit the overall jokey vibe of the mod.

You can ask Malvarie questions if you need help deciding something! She also tells jokes if you ask for that. Just include the word 'malvarie' in a chat message!
I was split between doing something like a markov chain or ELIZA or maybe embedding a micro language model, but then decided on just hard-coding a bit of conversation logic. I called it 'girlfriend' capabilities for the memes. If there is any functionality you'd like to see implemented with this, please tell me! Otherwise, if I'm bored again, I might make her react to game events and whatever you're doing, like in those AAA games (oh no your health is low! be careful!). That is the direction I can see this mod take.
