English

Player-made contracts, nailed to Notice Board boards, with real rewards held in escrow. A client writes a contract and pledges the reward. A worker takes the paper, does the job and gets paid at the board or in person. Made for immersive roleplay servers, for Vintage Story 1.22.7. First public release: feedback is welcome.

Highlights

  • A town crier on Discord. Every contract gets its own forum thread with a live notice (status, request, reward, places, deadline in game and real time), and news as it happens: places taken, tally marks, receipts with the client's appreciation, the crier's last-day reminder. A daily Counter Gazette sums up the finest rewards, contracts about to expire and the journeymen of the day. Optional staff and treasury channels. Webhooks only: no bot to host.
  • A physical Crown treasury. A Treasury chest holds the public money (its access follows land claims: guard it well), players slide taxes and donations into an offering box they cannot open, and an account book records every coin in and out. Crown contracts are paid from the chest, and unearned pay goes back to it.
  • Orders of several items. Up to 6 different items in one order (a saw, a shovel, 20 planks…), each with its quantity. Delivery is all or nothing, and the contract tells you what is missing.
  • A real coin purse. With Salary Coin 2, pledges, rewards and refunds go through the purse, appear in its statement, and reach players even while they are offline. Without it, pay is made with coins or any items you choose, with change given back.

The spirit

  • No money out of thin air. The reward leaves the client's bags or purse when the contract is sealed, and goes to the worker on settlement. Unearned rewards go back to the client (or to the treasury) at the deadline.
  • Everything happens in the world. No global quest menu and no chat spam: contracts are found on boards, carried as papers and honoured face to face.
  • Every paper has a role. Contract form, contract, stub, receipt, journeyman's booklet and account book.
  • Server and client: install it on the server; players download it automatically when they join.

How it works

  1. Write. Craft a contract form (parchment and beeswax). Hold ink and quill in your left hand and use the form on, or next to, a notice board. The writing desk shows a live preview of the notice and lists what is still missing. Search items with several words ("oak plank", "antler moose") and page through every result.
  2. Post. Seal and post: the reward goes into escrow and the sheet is nailed to the board, with a header for the kind of contract and your trade, the requested items with their icons, the reward, the free places and the deadline. You keep the stub.
  3. Take. Open the board, click Read contract, then Take this contract. The sheet leaves the board and the contract lands in your bags.
  4. Honour. At the board, open your contract and click Deliver or Claim the reward. In person, the client opens the stub next to you and proposes the settlement; you accept with Shake on it! and the exchange is simultaneous.
  5. Afterwards. The worker gets a signed receipt, collected in a journeyman's booklet that anyone can read: a reputation without levels or XP.

Four kinds of contract

  • Order: up to 6 different items, each with its quantity, exact variant or any variant.
  • Hunting bounty: N creatures of a species, counted as tally marks on the paper once the contract is taken.
  • Expedition: reach a place; the map waypoint is attached to the notice.
  • Work: a free task described in the notice, judged by the client and settled in person.

A contract can have several places ("5 lots of 20 charcoal"): each worker takes one paper, and escrowed items are split evenly between places.

For server staff

  • Crown contracts: in the name of an institution ("By order of the Council of…"), signed with the name of the Treasury chest that pays them.
  • Disputes: either party can call a GM. The place is frozen until the staff settles or refunds it.
  • Registry: /contrat registre lists every contract by tab, with a journal for each one.
  • Commands, also from the console: /contrat liste, voir, regler, rembourser, annuler, prolonger, tresor. Privilege: contratsmj (admins always have it).
  • Configuration in ModConfig/contratsgages.json: limits, durations, reach, ink and quill, notifications, currency, treasury, Discord (webhooks, gazette hour, worker names, real-time deadlines, reminders).

Requirements

  • Notice Board 3.0.3 or later (required; tested with 3.0.4)
  • Attribute Rendering Library 3.2.0 (required by Notice Board)
  • Optional: Salary Coin 2.0 for the purse, AnyCoin for coins. Without them, rusty gears are the default currency.

Known limitations

  • The mod uses Notice Board's public classes (tested with 3.0.3 and 3.0.4): a future Notice Board update may require an update of this mod.
  • Hunting bounties count the player who lands the killing blow.
  • With a cartography mod such as Mapper, an expedition place can only be marked on a charted area. This is intended.
  • Discord: a webhook cannot rename a thread or change its tags, so a contract's state is read in its notice. Set the forum's "Hide after inactivity" to one week.

English and French, with a guide in the handbook. Notice Board by propaneko, Attribute Rendering Library by DanaCraluminum, AnyCoin by Vyp3rG0d; no files from these mods are included. Contrats & Gages is under the MIT license.

v1.0.17
- Deadlines now run in real days: the writing desk offers 1 to 30 days (real time), keeps counting while the server is empty, and the notice shows the time left ("5 days left", then "3 hours left") and updates itself.
- Grace period: when a contract expires, its notice leaves the board and no new places can be taken, but workers who already took one have 24 hours (by default) to deliver. Refunds come after.
- Discord: deadlines shown with Discord timestamps (each reader's time zone).
- New config options: DeadlineClock ("real" by default, "game" for the old behaviour) and GraceHours. Existing contracts keep their current deadline.
- Writing desk: shorter placeholder texts, so they no longer overlap.

Hi! I’ve prepared the Russian translation file for the additional mod. Can I send you ru-lang.json? Could you add it to the main mod?

Thanks for your interest! The current release asks for game 1.22.7, so it won't load on 1.22.6 as is. I've just published 1.0.12, which accepts any 1.22.x. It should work on 1.22.6, but I've only tested it on 1.22.7, so please try it on a copy of your world first, and tell me how it goes!

Oooh cool ! Thanks for testing, i'm sorry for the nultiples correctives push, i'll do testing on my own server for testing

Hello, Maz!
I think this is an excellent modification for the game. I am testing it locally right now to decide if it will go onto my server.
I do have a few questions:

1. When creating a contract for more than one worker (shown as 'places') the UI tells me the items offered in pay must be equally divisible. Does this mean that an equal pay of fulfilling the order is the only option for multiple-worker orders? Or is there a way to set it so that workers that submit the work earlier will recieve a higher percentage of pay?
2. When creating a 'crown' order, it says that the pay is taken from the treasury. I could not find a way to create this treasury. Is this treasury tied to some coin mod, or is it possible to create a treasury that revolves around another item, like an ingot or rusty gears?

Thank you!

Hi Grandfather

Thanks a lot for testing!

Right now, a multi-place contract pays every place the same share. Paying earlier workers more isn't possible yet. A tiered reward for coins (e.g. 30/20/10) is on my list.

The "treasury" wording is misleading, sorry: there is nothing to set up. Coins on Crown contracts are created by the server and logged. Items still come from the escrow slots, so you can pledge real ingots or gears there. Coin rewards currently need a coin-purse mod or AnyCoin; I'm adding a configurable currency (rusty gears, ingots…) in the next version.
