Forsaken Journal is a client-side personal notebook mod for Vintage Story designed to help you keep track of information that is easy to forget, especially during multiplayer.

Press N to open the journal. It starts with several useful tabs:

  • Players — keep track of people you interact with and write notes about them.
  • Trades — create your own shop/trade list with items, amounts, prices, and wanted items. You can share your shop list with other Forsaken Journal users, and they can receive and save it in their own journal.
  • To-Do — jobs, projects, promises, or anything you need to finish.
  • Locations — save named locations with separate X, Y, and Z coordinates, import existing map markers, add saved locations to the in-game map, and share locations with other Forsaken Journal users.
  • Notes — anything else you want to remember.

You can also create your own tabs, rename them, and delete tabs you no longer need. Checklist tabs can be created for tasks, and notes autosave while you're writing.

The journal includes multiple background and text color options, allowing you to customize its appearance. You can also rename the journal itself to whatever you want, so it can be your personal journal, trade ledger, explorer's log, town records, quest notes, or anything else you prefer.

Shop & Trade Lists

The Trades system can be used like a personal shop board.

Create a list containing:

  • Items you are selling
  • Amounts available
  • What you want in return
  • Prices or requested items

You can then share the entire shop list with other players using Forsaken Journal.

Other Forsaken Journal users can receive the shared list and save it under their Received shops, making it easy to keep track of what other players are selling or looking for.

If the shop owner shares an updated version later, the received shop list can be updated as well.

Location & Map Marker Sharing

The Locations system allows you to save important coordinates and work with Vintage Story's map markers.

You can:

  • Save locations manually with X, Y, and Z coordinates
  • Import existing map markers into your journal
  • Add saved journal locations back onto your map
  • Share saved locations with other Forsaken Journal users
  • Receive shared locations and choose whether to add them to your own journal

This can be useful for sharing:

  • Towns
  • Player shops
  • Mines
  • Ruins
  • Farms
  • Roads
  • Resources
  • Landmarks
  • Meeting locations
  • Other important points on the map

Shared locations and shop lists are not automatically added to another player's journal. The receiving player chooses whether they want to save them.

World-Specific Journals

Journal data is stored locally on your own computer and separated by world/server.

If you move to another world or a multiplayer server is wiped, Forsaken Journal can keep the previous journal available so you can merge or import information from an older world journal.

Languages

Forsaken Journal supports automatic game-language detection as well as manual language selection.

Currently supported languages include:

  • English
  • German
  • French
  • Spanish
  • Portuguese (Brazil)
  • Polish
  • Russian
  • Ukrainian
  • Italian
  • Czech
  • Dutch
  • Simplified Chinese
  • Japanese
  • Korean

Selecting Auto (Game Language) will make the journal follow your Vintage Story language when supported. Unsupported languages fall back to English.

Privacy

Forsaken Journal is client-side only.

The server does not need the mod installed, and other players cannot see your private journal entries. Your journal information is stored locally on your own computer.

Only information you specifically choose to share, such as a shop list or location, is placed into chat for another Forsaken Journal user to receive.
