flowerbeds-v1.22.0-1.0.2.zip  1-click install

Do you feel a single flower on a block is a waste of space?

Would you like to make proper flowerbeds with spots for more flowers and decorative edges to liven up the place around your base?

Then this is the mod for you!

Make flowerbeds with the brand new trowel, decorate them with sticks and stones, fences, slabs, planks or maybe some rope.
Finally you can make the dream base you've always wanted!

The possibilities are endless.

What this mod currently adds:

  • 3 types of flowerbeds - on the ground, low and raised - connect to their neighbour to create seamless designs
  • Trowel to create ground flowerbeds out of any type of soil - just point on top of a block and right click
  • Smith the trowel head in the smithy, then assemble it as any other tool in the game
  • Craft raised flowerbeds easily with planks and a block of dirt in the grid
  • 3 classical garden decorative items, for that ultimate garden feel - Gnomes, frogs and snails
  • Gnomes can be dressed in various colours for their hat, shirt and pants, to create unique combinations
  • Craft snails and frogs from freshly harvested corals
  • Decorate your flowerbeds with stones, bricks, boards, slabs, fences, ropes, metal scraps, rusty gears, lanterns, flowers, mushrooms, cattails, papyrus, tule and brown sedge
  • Bees and butterflies will happily feed on all 4 slots in the flowerbeds, when populated with flowers.

Halloween additions:

  • Scarecrow lanterns for a nice centerpiece in any flowerbed. They can be carried in both hands as a regular lantern, if that is desired.
  • Skeletons emerging from the ground in various degree.
  • Bats flying overhead. Can be placed anywhere. Want them mid-air? Place a block up to where you want them, place the bat, break the blocks. The bat now "flies" in that position.
  • Ravens. Same functionality as the bats.
  • Skulls as corner decorations. Human and cowskulls.
  • Pumpkins. Carved in 3 variants.

Halloween Edition

  • Added:  Several Halloween themed decorations - Scarecrows, skeletons, headstones, pumpkins, bats and ravens, human skulls and more..
    • Use a wrench to switch trough all the possible variations of each Halloween themed decorative piece. (except the scarecrows)
  • Added:  New edge decorations. Try using bricks, metal scraps, or maybe even some rusty gears

Bugfixes:

  • Fixed:  Some z-fighting issues on some edge combinations.
  • Fixed:  Shelf placements for some of the corner decorations.
  • Fixed:  Gnomes will no longer take over your handbook. They agreed on a deal including regular feeding of cookies and tea at noon.
  • Fixed:  Recipes for raised flowebeds will no longer complain about lacking ingredient variants in the logs.
  • Fixed:  Bees were not happy with my flowerbeds and sent an emissary to negotiate a deal. All 4 flowers should now be available for polination. The bees were very pleased!

Could you please make fences not connecting with flowerbeds? Right now placing low flowerbeds and so on right next to those seems wrong

Darmin404, 6 hours ago
@xXx_Ape_xXx: Not quite sure what you mean 🤔Picture?

Sorry I have really no idea on how to post an Image here, but its really easy to check: If you build a low flowerbed (the one half a block high) right next to a fence you'll note the fence builds a connection like to a full block

Are you using an older version of the mod? These have since been fixed and should no longer be spammed in the logs.

Also, they are not causing any issues for usage of the mod, they're only logged because the recipe can't find those materials as options on the raised flowerbeds.
These can be ignored and will not be anything else than logged.

Given this one hasn't been supported for a while I'd leave it to you if and how you'd want to approach it, I just love when the world is full of life which is why I was excited to see your description that bees and butterflies will visit.

I absolutely ADORE This mod, it's absolutely incredible! And adding in seasonal decor as well was an extra lovely touch on the cake! Would compatibility with Wildcraft, and floral zones be something in the future? There's lots of really pretty flowers in those ones, that would make for some really diverse gardens alongside the vanilla ones! Also thank you for fixing the bees! My golden combs hives are now THRIVING! No more confused bees!

Hello,

Thank you so much for this mod—it’s truly amazing !

I do have one small request, though. It’s not that I don’t like your garden gnomes... But would it be possible to group all the crafts a bit closer together in the recipe guide so they take up less space on the item pages (like with many vanilla items, where only the wood or stone changes—instead of having a separate item for each variant, there’s one item that switches every few seconds to show a different variant) ? I’m not sure if I’m making myself clear—I’ll post a screenshot if needed.

I’d really appreciate it, because it takes up a lot of space on the pages, and when you have a lot of mods, it can sometimes be hard to find your way around.

Thank you so much, and congratulations again on this mod—my friends and I are discovering it and we love it !

Thank you for your kind words, I'm glad you're having fun with the mod.

On behalf of the Gnome population, I will gladly report that their somewhat overwhelming presence in the handbook have been delt with in the next update, and they should no longer be sprayed on every page.

When you turn a regular block of non-grassy soil into a flowerbed with the trowel it turns into a grassy block of soil, would appreciate a fix if possible 🙏

Hm not sure what you mean by that?
The entire block does not turn grass free when converted to a flowerbed, is that what you're referring to?

Any pictures?

The block part of the flowerbed, the part that used to be the soil block shows with grass even if it didn't have initially, It's a texture thing I belive.

suddenly grass

These look absolutely lovely, have you considered adding some more functionality to this mod? I would quite like to use your decorations for my regular fields as well, this just puts vanilla farmland to shame and I would love a qaint little vegetable garden behind my shack.

Also some plant farming/propagation mechanic would be sweet, especially considering the fact you already have cattails etc. placeable in the pots!

It's on my drawing board, to look into adding crops to this, or maybe a simplified version just for crops.

Allowing crops on 4 squares would significantly shift the game balance and be way too powerful, so some kind of compromize need to happen.

Good point, since it is hard to just do "quarter seeds -> quarter yields" easiest solution would be to either just keep it purely visual or just add a "farmland" version of the flowerbeds. They are just way too pretty not to use them though, would love a little vegetable garden in raised flowerbeds.

A raised version of the regular fields should be very doable, and I think my system is dynamic enough for it to be hooked into the normal crop growth, to allow for decorations and such.
I'll def. investigate this option.

Thanks for the raised beds fix :)

I have another suggestion! Various vine structures.

For the past many years i've been yearning for pergolas and trellis with wysteria or grapevines or similar hanging off of them and under. Ideally this would be a whole complex system, with growth stages, etc... as well as Ivy that climbs walls. If I believe in someone capable of doing it that would be you ;)

But since that's a big ask, for now and more in line with the scope and theme of this mod, I think for now you could incorporate something similar to these 2 block tall supports for plants to climb:

Yes, the mod works with bees!

What I meant was, use the trowel to create a flowerbed in the soil directly below the window, then place a window box on the wall directly above the flowerbed. Now you have both!

I cannot figure out the flowerbed crafting recipe. According to the handbook, there isn't one.

It'd be great if you could see Ctrl+N in-world tooltips for actions to teach you how to place things in the flowerbeds.

I think plants are unaffected by climate tinting?

Other than that, very very neat mod that I will be using lots. I wonder if you have any more ideas for the edging? Something a bit more fancy and ornate perhaps, like this:

Of course not with this level of detail but something that's more of a fancy pattern than just stones.

The basic flowerbed is created with the new tool, the trowel, that has to be made with smithing.

Then you assemble it as any other tool, with a stick and the tool head.

Right click on any top surface of soil blocks to make them into flowerbeds.

For more ornamentals and decorations, yes, I have some stuff on the drawing board.
I appreciate the ideas, I like those.

I did notice those, and it's just a missing limitation (or I might add the wood type) on what type of wood is valid for the recipe.
No other consequenses.

Will fix in the next update.
