Sauna

A Vintage Story 1.22 mod. Seal a room, light the iron stove, splash a watering can over the hot stones, and you have a working sauna — a proper kiuas. Stay and heal, earn a lasting boost to your max health, take a cold plunge for a burst of speed, or drink in the heat and let the sauna set you straight.

How a sauna works

Three things have to be true at once, or you are just standing next to a stove:

1. The stove is burning — load firewood (up to four logs) and light it with a firestarter.
2. It is steaming — pour a watering can over the hot stones for löyly. One second of pouring buys 30 seconds of steam, up to 10 minutes.
3. You and the stove share a sealed room (vanilla RoomRegistry). The whole enclosed room is the sauna zone.

Steam runs out and wood burns away — you have to come back and top both up. That is the loop.

What the sauna does

• Healing. +1 HP every 5 s while your saturation is above half. Step out and a two minute afterglow keeps mending you at +1 HP per 10 s.
• Visits & max health. Two uninterrupted minutes counts as a visit. Visits in the last 7 game days raise your max health: 1 visit → +1, 2 → +3, 4 → +5. Stop going and it fades on its own. At least 8 game hours must pass between visits.
• Cold plunge. Two minutes in the heat leaves you hot for three. Get into cold water — any water, or a Bathing Tub — while hot and you move 10% faster for 1200 s (around 10 in game hours)
• Overheating. Let that window lapse without cooling off and you burn food faster for 2 minutes and stay uncomfortably warm.
• Body temperature. Climbs to 42.5 °C and plateaus while you stay inside — hotter than any real sauna would leave you, and adjustable in the config.

Nipping out for up to 30 seconds does not interrupt anything.

Drinking in the sauna

Bathing Tub

A barrel-shaped tub holding 100 litres, filled from a bucket. Standing in one with at least 40 litres counts as a cold plunge, so a sauna can have its own without digging a pond. Crafted from 6 sticks and 3 planks, like a barrel.

The chimney

Shift+right-click a chimney segment against the stove — or against any segment already up — and it stacks another one on top, up to 8 tall. Segments take their facing from whatever they stand on, so a stack always lines up with the stove under it. The flue can leave the room the way a real one does: floor over it and the next segment goes in above the floor, crossing up to three solid blocks with no holes cut around the pipe.

Iron is deliberate: the stove is iron in the model, and putting the sauna behind a bloomery keeps it something you build once you are settled. The stones accept any rock the drystone fence accepts.

• Server side: Universal (required on both client and server)
• No external dependencies, no Harmony, no JSON patches

 

Configuration

All thresholds and durations live in VintagestoryData/ModConfig/spa.json, rewritten on every start so new keys appear in an old file. Highlights: RequireEnclosedRoom, StoveRequiresSteam, HeatRadius, and VisitTiers — set VisitTiers to a single { "Visits": 4, "Bonus": 5 } entry for an all-or-nothing bonus instead of the ladder.

Commands

Requires the chat privilege. Handy because the 7-day visit window is hard to test otherwise.

• /spa status — zone, session, heated/overheat/speed timers, intoxication, body temperature, current tier
• /spa visits — the four visit slots and which still count
• /spa addvisit / /spa clearvisits — inject or wipe visits
• /spa intox <0..1.1> — set intoxication without drinking
• /spa loeyly — top up the steam on the stove you are looking at
