I say continue this. "Why do y if x exists" why do anything? As long as you're learning how to code. Different mods should exist for variety/choice.
As for the mod icon, I can draw or paint you a gravestone in some grass for free to use as an icon. Just say the word. It wont be fancy, but for an hour or so for free its what I got. Just say the word.
Does Vintage Story really need redudant variants of mods that already exist, especially when the new 'take' appears to be vibe coded?
Yes.
Technically I didn't even know there was a skeleton mod before making this also.
But when thinking about it, It is kind of unnecessary extra work for me to upkeep though,
so I could probably just archive this and focus more on TheHunter and my other larger projects.
I'll think about it, thanks for the idea Horatio; even if your comment was literally just meant as a provocation.
I used skeleton mod before and switched to this because I like the idea (and the convenience of restoring the slots in the same positions) more. If you decide to archive it, please consider sharing the code with others who might want to fork and support it
From my own testing, your mod appears to be much less buggy when it comes to spawning graves and reclaiming items. PlayerCorpse and its forks have become rather messy and unreliable.
Just as UmbralSun said, it would be wise to share the code or transfer the mod to other people, 'cause it may one day become the go-to option in the "player inventory on death" category.
Regardless of what you decide to do, you've done a great job with this one.
Aw thanks, I guess i'll just keep it. It's really not a big deal to update these.
Recently restarted a new server and have been getting this exception whenever I die.
Thank you for the log, it's looking like your client doesn't have the mod installed but the server does. That or something weird is going on.
Anyways, tweaked the logic a bit more, might work now.
Hi,
looks like this mod's logic is omitted when using /kill command. is it on purpose? if not, I would appreciate if it was also supported by mod
Good find, the whole idea of /kill was something I didn't even think about. Will get that fixed in next update.
I found an issue. I died while in a trader's hut and can no longer pick up my gravestone. It considers the gravestone an object owned by the trader.
Side note for those it may concern: I also can't pick up the reed chest I had on my back from the Carry On mod.
Great find. I'll push a fix for this asap.
Edit: Try v0.1.60 and let me know if that fixes it.
I was able to pick it up by entering creative mode. If I can get around to it I'll try to recreate the scenario.
Hm... which is better, gravestones or corpses?
What happens if you use both? 🤔
I do not want to find that one out, but I'm sure it would cause one of three things to happen: One - play crashes | Two - items dupe, because two "graves" spawn | Three - BOTH!
I've decided to try GraveStones though, because of the situation with corpses having some troubles, and the fact you have this set up to try and put EVERYTHING properly back into it's rightful places.
Yeah, toolbar positions has always been important to me with these types of mods.
i might actually shift to this because of that little detail
isn'tthis just another version of Player Corpse ? sure it's less gritty but sort of the same idea ?
Haven't actually seen player corpse, but yeah probably does the same thing overall.
Does the gravestones vanish when "picked up"? because it could be fun to make them permanent untill broken..
They vanish when the inventory is empty, but what you could in theory do is die with one item in your inventory and remove the marker manually. I guess I can make them craftable with some stone and a hammer later as a decor block; although that might be better in a general decor mod instead of being a new recipe.
Could just have the gravestone be something you pick up along with your items, if enough space.
Does it stay spawned if i die again while trying to get to it ?
Yep, plus creates and removes its own waypoint too so you don't need to rely on the death marker. (Least in the latest versionj)
Thank god you caught that issue RedRockG. That'd have been horrible to keep in there longer than necessary.
Okay, I see the issue. So the grave spawning logic was a little too fragile and it gave up. Also the grave inventory grabbing was grabbing the entire inventory instead of just the toolbar. Adjusting those for the next update and going to test it further before publishing again.
It didn't work; I died, and my items just ended up scattered on the ground. My clothes also came loose and were all over the place.
Fixed in 0.1.35, thank you!
Hi, well, it still isn't working for me. I tried it in a new world—I thought that might be the problem—but my items keep disappearing. I don't see a grave or anything. Do I need something or a specific setting? Just in case, I'm using Linux.
Genuinely forgot that people play games on linux systems; but you seem perfect to test for linux support. Install v0.1.37 when it comes up in a sec and let me know if it fixes it.
Hahaha, you're not going to believe this, but I just died, and when I respawned, I could already see the grave. At the bottom, it tells me to right-click to retrieve my items. But the game still considers me permanently dead—I can't interact with any blocks, not even to open doors or pick up items. In fact, I tried using the /kill command, but it won't let me use it because I'm already dead. The text box says I died, but nothing happens, hahaha.
..What in the world. Alright, just got off work; will work on this asap. Edit: Try updating to the latest version and restarting the game.
Absolutely, have fun dying. ^^
Same with multiplayer.
If anyone can test this with a totally full inventory of things; bags, etc.
I'd appreciate it.
Before any patches were made, works with Wildcraft bags and Butchering bag items seemlessly.
