Rust Girls - Player Model
Rust Girls: Player Model adds three playable races, each with their own strengths, weaknesses, and playstyle. At the moment, the mod adds the Bell, Bowtorn, and Drifter as selectable races during character creation, each features custom models, animations, traits, classes, and a few recipes.
Every model is designed around a distinct identity:
Drifter is melee-oriented. She's chunky, fluffy, and hungry. They get to make rope with flax twine and turn gears into scrap. (Early scrap weapons, yay!)
Bowtorn is a bit like a sniper. Glass cannon kinda deal, she takes much longer loading any arrow but hits like a... well, Bowtorn. Oh and she can craft her own bone arrows, lots of them!
Bell is a bit of a unique tank. Sucks at head-on combat, can take a beating, gathers much more rusty gears, and can do a couple neat things with them.
All recipes are in the handbook. There are no actual new items, just: QoL and flavor ✨

FAQ
What's next?
Locust player model, more hairstyles, caramelldansen bell emote.
Is it balanced?
That's the goal! Sort of... Every model has advantages and disadvantages instead of being straight-up busted. If something ends up feeling too strong or miserable, I'll happily tweak it. So any feedback is appreciated!
Will more races be added?
Locusts are in progress! As for a playable shiver, it's very unlikely.
Do you use AI?
Gave me a hand in not having to type everything in the lang file, oh the horror! This mod has no actual code, so no slop in your system, safe!

when the bowtorn sits, the bum kinda floats above a third of a block so i do some perspective trickery to camoflauge as good as i can for a screenshot. dunno about the other girls. i have not touched the model scale changer should such matter
having this and the normal rust girls mod make for some peak (toxic) yuri. thank you for your work
are you in consideration of making male versions of these models?
Looking forward to more hairs, specially for Bowtorn. Speaking of Bowtorn, would be nice for an option toggle for the back spine/bow stuff just as an option!
Having an issue with the config file. I'm trying to disable the racial traits and use the vanilla classes. So I go to remove_racial_traits and use_vanilla_classes and I change the default value to true instead of false, but nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong?
Thank you so much for this mod and for any help you can give me!
I just deleted the traits and character classes files, that works just as well. Thanks again for the wonderful mod!
Thanks for contributing this really nice mod. I do want to bring up an issue with the unlocked mouse cursor that applies to all three models. When using the unlocked mouse cursor (whether by holding ALT or opening containers), I can't interact with things like knapping, nor open/close other containers that are near the bottom of the screen. I can also punch myself with my bare hands or a wrench using the unlocked cursor (even in 3rd person). Spears and falxs seem unaffected. The affected area seems to be around the middle-bottom of the screen or when looking down. Oh, but sitting down allows me to use the unlocked cursor to knap as normal.
I found a workaround which is keeping the model size during character creation below 97% for Bowtorn, 96% for Drifter, and 95% for Bell. Anything above those sizes seems to cause this issue. HOWEVER, this only works if the "scale-collider-vertically" is set to "false" in the config. If it's "true" then the issue is still there. I can also just not use the unlocked cursor for knapping, but there still is the issue with opening multiple containers if those containers are near the bottom of the screen.
Glad you enjoy it! And thank you, I wasn't aware of this behavior. I'll definitely look into it...
Oh dang, I forgot to mention I was on 1.21.6. Again, nice work!
Is there a way to disable the stat changes for this mod? Perhaps as a config setting?
It should be on the config file!
Thanks! I found it a bit ago but forgot to delete this lol
Amazing Mod, Looking forward to future updates and additions.
Thank you!! Locusts are currently in the works :3
theres an issue with the bowtorn, past 100% scale only the model changes, not the hitbox or the camera position. is there any way you can fix this?
Originally I limited it to ~2 blocks tall so it wouldn't cause much issues with player size but in the next update I did make their hitbox scale with height, fully configurable as well for players who don't want to be as tall. Get those 3 block tall doors ready!
Excellent mod, really great design! Thank you for your work! Now we wait for a rust girl recruitable companion. Also hi :3
Thank youuu!! Glad you enjoy the mod!
I really love this mod, the drifters are adorable. And I do read the changelogs: Hi :3
The camera position change is very noticable with drifters, I went: wow, I am short.
The model of drifter seems to be constantly shivering? shaking? Its more noticable in third person.
Hi :3
And yes! I took the idle from the original shiver animations.
I also added a config file, in a future update I'll add support to allow players to customize the camera height!
Love the mod and your designs, but I do have to make one small suggestion: give the race and class trait descriptions another once over and clearly denote what they do, positive and negative (with proper +/- denotations to all percentage changes, unless they're actually an absolute).
As it sits, it's rather hard to tell what the individual traits do in-game, because most of the descriptions are actually somewhat ambiguous. For an example, the Bell's Gear Prospecter trait could read as 1.25x, 0.75x, or in the most extreme case a 0.25x multipler on ore drops; and that makes a very big difference on a class/race's viability because of how important ore is in VS; and that's setting aside if she has to eat as much as 5 Seraphs to get a health boost via nutrients (which is what '20% nutrition from food' suggests, which, I mean, fair enough, she's a slow slow roller).
While your inclusion of the class effects in the description here helped in that regard, it doesn't clarify these things for the races, and even still: I can't be the only one getting confused by the in-game descriptions, right?
you aint alone, I've also been kinda confused on those stat values and what they mean
I did some balancing and tried making everything more readable!
Sorcelaine You got Nightmare twice in your mod description 😅
Maybe add Drifter/Bowtorn in front of the respective names
AAA I overlooked that! Changed it to the correct name
suggestion : could you add a descriptionof each classes on the download page ? and a screenshot of the customisation menu for the race and appearence ?
usually, when I find a mod that adds classes, I look at :
the best would be : balanced traits, large customisation choice, no arbitrary tweaks on the other race/classes (rare, but it really happens)
hope it'll help you ;)
You're so right omg.
I added a few pictures and the details of the classes!
on the gearfoot description, there is this line that's intriguing :
is it -10% damage or -10 flat damage ?
also, the positive and negative traits aren't always very balanced
I've tried to make everything clearer! Both in-game and in the mod page.
And also tweaked values to be more in line with vanilla stats so nothing is too exaggerated as well.
Thanks. I hate it.
How does this hold up when installed with Combat overhaul? Does its stat sclaing do decently? im trying it out and it seems like it does?
Damage-wise everything is by percent so it should be alright!
hi, i love reading changelogs, ty for developing this and writing changelogs that actually explain what was changed
omg LOL
Thank you!
ABSOLUTE
P E A T
CINEMA
It's peam..
the first person perspective being very awkward makes them hard to play, but this is really cool regardless! hope it gets fixed soon
It's being fixed right now!
that's great to hear!
fantastic!
Thank you!
more of whatever this is pls
more moe kawaii waifu girls on the way for this seraph!
good we can now kill them more personally
Rust for the Rust god! Gears for the Gear Throne!
is it possible to make an equivalent/option for the basic monster models, if not already implemented ?
It is certainly possible since most of the girls have a few animations based on their vanilla counterparts. It'd need lots of work once more since vanilla mobs have the origins of their limbs all over compared to the player, but certainly possible! Sadly it's something that would take a while for me to do it, since I only have so much time to put into modding.
no worries, take your time ;)
i havent tried this mod yet or your other but i love how this idea is slowly turning into a cult phenomenon.
It's so silly, I love it here hahaha
someone tell Eren that i am still waiting for THE mod
W-wait which mod... WHICH EREN?!
They. Are. So. CUTE! <3 Thank you!!
Yay~ Glad you like this silly mod hahaha
One small bug(?) report, not sure if actually a bug or just a limitation, but the first-person camera doesn't seem to match the height of any of the playermodels. When playing a Bowtorn, it's somewhere in the chest area, and with the Drifter and Bell, they're both above the head.
I'll be pushing an update later today to fix the first person animations!
Very exciting to hear!
Alright, some of those screenshots are sick as (not allowed to say that here!)
Good stuff.
The bell with the scuffed aquarium on a superflat goes hard.
Thanks!
NOW WE'RE COOKING
Edit: I didn't expect to love these as much as I do, the customization is really fun, the more grotesque monster noises provide a really fun contrast to the design, and they're super cute to boot. How am I gonna tell my friends....
COOKING WITH GAS!!!
Glad to hear you like it so much!! I'm trying to find fitting sounds to add but for now vanilla will do..
