Dry Fuels

Green wood doesn't burn well, so season it first. Freshly split firewood and freshly cut peat are damp. Stack them, let them dry, and your fuel burns far longer and bakes down into more charcoal.

How it works

Lay firewood or peat on the ground as a pile and it slowly seasons in place, then converts into longer-burning seasoned fuel. Glance at a drying pile to check its progress.

Seasoning follows the local climate: fastest in warm, dry, sheltered spots, slowest out in the cold, wet, and open. Build a woodshed (an enclosed room) and your fuel cures noticeably faster.

It's deliberately diegetic: only fuel stacked in the world seasons. Wood sealed in a chest or crate won't dry, so you have to lay it out like a real woodpile.

What you get

  • Seasoned firewood and dried peat burn about 5x longer than fresh.
  • More charcoal: a charcoal pit built from seasoned firewood yields seasoned charcoal piles worth double the charcoal of green wood.
  • Climate- and shelter-aware drying, with a bonus for enclosed, indoor storage.
  • At-a-glance seasoning percentage on every pile.
  • Plays nice with vanilla: fresh fuel, firepits, and ordinary charcoal pits are unchanged.

Tips

  • A roofed, enclosed room is the best drying spot. Warm and dry beats cold and rainy by a wide margin.
  • Stockpile early: seasoning takes months in fair weather, longer in harsh climates.
  • Save seasoned wood for charcoal if you're forging; the yield bonus is well worth it.

New: config fileModConfig/dryfuels.json (created on first launch) lets you tune the mod to taste:

  • Burn duration & temperature of seasoned firewood and peat bricks
  • Seasoning time — how long fuel takes to fully cure
  • Woodshed bonus — extra drying speed for fuel stored in a fully enclosed room

In multiplayer the config is synced from the server to every client, so burn-time tooltips and seasoning progress always match the server's settings (the server's dryfuels.json is authoritative).

Minor: trimmed some stray build files from the mod archive (no gameplay change).

Something weird happening with the oven: the oven temperature does rise but the tooltip says 0 degrees for the wood itself.

i recommend listing the burn time and rying times so people get more of a idea what defaut settings are

Really lovely idea!
Is it possible to get a config to change the burn duration etc for individual needs too? ^^

Love this Idea. Didn't even know peat was useful to burn? So is it best to store it in a storage room basically?

Peat. I will give this a try.

Neat. I will give this a try.
