Mod Overview

An extremely simple mod: Cranberry bushes (and only cranberry bushes) will drop their berries when the ripe bush is submerged in water. This allows for the making of cranberry bogs, like in real life. Real life cranberries needs to be agitated to drop from the bushes, though, but that is not currently a feature in the mod.

Features:

  • Cranberries drops their berries when submerged in water
  • Cranberry bushes have a chance to spawn a wolf spider when wet harvested.
    • The wolf spider will tend to its bush and increase its yield by 15% on next wet harvest.

Mod Config:

Mod has the following config options:

  • EnableSpiderSpawns: [default = true] - whether or not spider spawning should be enabled
    • Existing spiders will disappear if this is turned to false.
  • SpiderDropRateBuff: [default = 0.15] - additive droprate buff. E.g if you have the 'heavybearer' trait, the total droprate would be 1.0 (base) + 0.15 (heavybearer) + 0.15 (spider) = 1.3. Has no effect if EnableSpiderSpawns = false.
  • SpiderSpawnChance: [default = 0.05] - chance in percentage to spawn a spider. Has no effect if EnableSpiderSpawns = false.

Mod Recommendations:

Pairs VERY well with Hardcore Water: Transport Edition Forked:

  • Sluices for very easy, semi-automatable harvesting.

Future Work:

  • Update HCW to have a slightly smaller hitbox for the sluices and aqueducts. This will allow cranberries to be pushed into aqueducts from flowing water, and aqueducts with flowing water will in turn push cranberries along their own stream. Emergent automation!
  • Add a tiered approach to wet harvesting:
    • Disable cranberries dropping as soon as it gets into contact with water.
    • Tier 1: Use water-rake to harvest cranberries by hand at a faster pace than by hand.
    • Tier 2: Use a water reel to harvest cranberries in e.g a 1x3 or 2x3 area.
    • Cranberries will still float and not harvest into your inventory, so having collection channels will still be useful.

Issues and Bugs:

None that I know of, but the mod was only lightly tested.

Added Config File:

  • Config is Server-Side authorative
  • File is in ModConfig/FieldsOfCranberriesConfig.json and is generated on first world load.

Bugfix: If mod was installed into existing world, ALL berry bushes would mistakenly show that they have a wolf spider attached to them. Visual bug only, berry bush droprates would not have been impacted.

  • Bugfix prevents this from happening again.
  • Bugfix should fix existing saves with this issue.

  • Added Wolf Spider (my first time modeling, texturing and animating)
    • Cranberry Bushes have a 5% chance of spawning a wolf spider when wet-harvested
    • The wolf spider will tend to the bush and keep (invisible) evil insects away
    • If a cranberry bush has a wolf-spider active the next time it is wet-harvested (visible in tooltip), it will have a 15% higher yield.

jackaloffal There is already a spider in there :D. It has a (configureable) 5% chance of spawning on wet harvest of a cranberry bush and will buff your berry bush droprate the next time. 1 spider per bush to keep performance manageable.

I have to say this is one of the coolest mod so far, to have the immersive semi-automate cranberries farming is so rad and the synergies with Aqueduct mod is also chef kissmust have with every of my worlds from now✌

Make it compatible with wild craft: Fruits and nuts, it replaces cranberry bushes with cranberry plants and make this mod not work with it.

wonderful mod! i really love getting to work aqueducts into my farms with this :D
i am howevever noticing that non-cranberry bushes also have the wolfspider tooltip. is this intended?

Oh dang, good catch. I completely forgot to limit that to only cranberries.

 

Functionally it won't make a difference because the buff requires wet harvesting, but it's very misleading to see it in the tooltip. I'll fix it tomorrow.

cowdragons Can you maybe let me know how to reproduce this issue? I checked the code now, a spider spawn is only attempted if all of the following are true.

  1. The bush is cranberry
  2. The bush is ripe
  3. The bush becomes submerged in water.

 

I couldn't reproduce a wild non-cranberry bush having a spider in any way I tried, so I must be missing something.

Just downloaded today, super exited for my crandberry bog! That being said, also seeing the endless wolf spiders on my end, appears to mostly affect berry bushes already in a mature or ripening state before the mod is installed.

Kanyo cowdragons Okay Kanyo's tip of it affecting bushes in a world that existed before the mod was added was the giveaway. v0.0.4 fixes the bug for existing and future saves.

  1. This one - My fork, has a bit more features than the original (sluices, running water in aqueducts, rapids, support for more mods), but AI was used in the initial forking process (upgrading from 1.20 to 1.22).
  2. This one - Someone else's fork. Has the same features as the original + rapids support, no AI was used in the forking process.

    My fork has more features, but if me using AI during the original forking is an issue for you, use the Evolved version (second one)

I might take a stab at making a little wolf spider spawn occasionally when harvested like this. Seems like a fun thing to work on.

CrucialSlimm Added a spider that has a low chance to spawn on wet harvest. The spider will also increase the yield of subsequent wet harvests (of that specific bush) by 15%.
