Latest release (for Vintage Story 1.21.0-pre.1 - 1.22.0, potentially outdated):

Tree Fellas is a mod I made because I always wanted one. It's similar to Salty's mod but rather than using the falling block method I went full blown animated asset falling in real time!
It seems to be compatible with non-vanilla tree mods but just let me know if you find a tree that it doesn't in fact work well.

1.0.2 fallingtrees 43 Apr 19th at 12:13 AM TreeFellas.zip 1-click install

Better tree isolation, leaves currently break but i'm working on fixing that. Break branches if you want sticks from your trees first before chopping for now.

1.0.1 fallingtrees 64 Apr 13th at 4:16 PM TreeFellas.zip 1-click install

Trees should now always land on the ground as well as break any plants below it (bushes, ferns etc) so that whole logs land on the ground rather than floating/breaking.
Trees should now also only effect themselves, should no longer pull down nearby trees on accident.

some configuration options would be much appreciated, like falling direction and being able to disable felling if you're chopping a block without anything on top of it.

I like the immersiveness, but it takes up almost double the axe durability. Any way you can make it so that chopping down a tree only consumes 1 or more durability?

MiraLeaps, Apr 27th at 6:03 PM

Jalex exactly what I was thinking haha.

Jalex, Apr 27th at 3:20 PM

MiraLeaps that sounds like something the mod "In Dappled Groves" might do. certainly aligns with its vision

MiraLeaps, Apr 26th at 5:27 PM

Well the game has a rope-attachment system built in. Does the tree fall into a solid object or does it break into logs on impact?

MiraLeaps, Apr 26th at 9:52 AM

My dream would be for this mod to give a full unbroken tree that we can rope-tie and drag for proper processing later or chop into logs on the spot (if that's what it does already, I'm sorry, I'm waiting on the 1.22 update to give it a go. It seems so damn cool!)

thats something that i would like to do, but don't see it being realistically possible given that its a block game, but you can pair this with immersive chopping and chop wood right into firewood after it's been chopped down.

Tree isolation seems to be more consistent, but now sticks break entirely when a tree is chopped so if you need sticks break the branches first until i get that sorted.

Kjeldar, Apr 16th at 3:39 PM

i'm on 1.01/1.21.6

i'ts no big one for me cause one has to chop trees anyway

Kjeldar, Apr 15th at 4:19 PM

testing

tryin to chop a tree.... 3, or more, going down

even when the leafs don't connect

i've cut the leaves/branches so a tree is real single and still a few trees are falling

i'll look into it when i get back on saturday. It isn't happening on my build, but i'm not sure if i updated it properly. Just make sure you're on the latest build on here, once i get back i'll narrow down the detection radius some more.

just a quick test, if trees that don't fall on flat ground are floating at all then you're on the old version, easiest way to tell that i can think of. but i'll load up the game to try and test it over and over in my forest to double check.

2026_Honda_Civic Unlikely, but it's meant for immersion. if you do want to speed up collecting firewood you can install the immersive woodchopping mod and all of the logs that spawn are immediately choppable into firewood.

2026_Honda_Civic, Apr 14th at 2:47 PM

Will there be a config for the logs to drop as items?

CrucialSlimm, Apr 13th at 6:28 PM (modified Apr 13th at 6:30 PM)

i will let you know, messing with it now ;P

FOR SCIENCE! (i may just be too lazy to uninstall the other first lol.)

QwestnblyStewds , Apr 13th at 5:31 PM

CrucialSlimm probably
DanaCraluminum not yet, maybe not ever, haven't decided yet.

CrucialSlimm, Apr 13th at 4:45 PM

Will this mod conflict with saltys mod? Only asking cause i have his mod installed already and expect it to.

DanaCraluminum, Apr 13th at 4:29 PM

Can falling tree kill you?

QwestnblyStewds , Apr 13th at 4:17 PM

New update, mostly just bug fixes.

QwestnblyStewds , Apr 12th at 7:55 PM

Wow! @saltywater

thank you so much for checking it out. Yours was a big inspiration for sure and i appreciate the compliment <3

SaltyWater, Apr 12th at 7:06 PM (modified Apr 14th at 1:43 PM)

Oh I like this, it does have better visuals than my mods! Nice work!

QwestnblyStewds , Apr 12th at 5:23 PM (modified Apr 12th at 6:37 PM)

Noxide also lets say a tree falls on the ground, all of the logs that impact the ground (or nothing at all) turn into logs that the player can chop into firewood (with immersive woodchopping) like blocks that have been placed by the player, this is intentional so you can fell a tree and then immediately start chopping it into firewood. Any wood that clips into the ground or lands on bushes or other small plants break into blocks that you have to pick up yourself.

QwestnblyStewds , Apr 12th at 5:20 PM

Bannta i'm working on it for 1.21 right now simply because that's the version i'm playing on, once i swap to 1.22 i'll update everything for that. Right now they do no damage but that might be something i could implement for realism purposes i'll look into it.

Noxide The bigger trees pulling down other trees would feel more realistic and trees having an effect on the environment might be possible, right now i'm working on making sure that trees that fall don't float if they land on mostly air. Right now it pulling down other trees with it just animates incorrectly and like the second tree went up into the air haha.

Noxide, Apr 12th at 1:23 PM

Very nice. The idea of a bigger tree pulling down smaller trees would feel more realistic. I'm curious, does all the wood blocks that fall stay as new grounded wood blocks that you can cut piece by pieces or do some break on impact and can be collected?

This is making me wish for a massive tree overhaul where trees have longer growth cycles, have thinner wood blocks for premature trees and woods self replenish system where every year cycle a tree has an RNG of dying based on its age, (young trees are far more likely to die than adult ones), but also seeds randomly spawn/ get planted around grown trees to balance the ones randomly dying.

Sorry, this mod is giving me so much hope for trees to get some proper attention as they still feel too much like Minecraft trees.

Bannta, Apr 12th at 1:22 PM

nice. I'll need to try it when you get it to 1.22.

Question: Will this do damage to the player if the falling tree hits them? I enjoy the extra perils of tree chopping. Knocking down nearby trees was always a pretty cool bonus in Velheim.

QwestnblyStewds , Apr 12th at 8:06 AM

note, i just found out that it will sometimes pull down nearby trees with it. i'll look into it and update a fix but its 1am rn when i found it.

QwestnblyStewds , Apr 11th at 11:49 PM

Hope everyone likes it!
