Latest release (for Vintage Story 1.21.0-pre.1 - 1.21.6, potentially outdated):
BigCatsTaming-0.9.1.zip  1-click install

This mod is a WIP / Early Release. It'll likely be buggy. - Wait til 1.0.0 for a stable release.

I simply uploaded it so I could test it on my server and it could be downloaded in game for those I play with.

It's a quick and dirty compat between FotSA Patherinae and Pet AI. I'm working on cleaning it up.

You are free to download and test, please report any funny behavior in the comments, or ping me on Discord.

Requires both Pet AI and FotSA: Patherinae

Implemented:

  • Taming works.
  • AI Behaviors are unified across the species as of 0.9.0 - so all that's left is adding more specialty behavior and tweaking current values until I am happy with them.
  • Pets can be mortally wounded giving you a chance to heal them.
  • Pets can be revived with a temporal gear. (Yes, this is configurable, please read the Pet AI mod page for all Pet AI related configs).
  • Butchering compatbility
  • Primitive Survival compatbility.

Want more tameable cats?  Felinae Taming and Cats - (Not my mods)

Known Issues:

  • Attack behavior can be a little funky. Pets will attack but also do weird things during their cooldown, I'll work on fixing it.
  • Black texture on tamed pantherinae accepted foods (from prim survival missing but being listed as accepted food), I'll fix this soon, but it's not a major priority since its entirely visual.

Roadmap:

  • Tweak AI until I am happy with it.
  • Add new fun behaviors to the AI, like the play fighting from their wild counterparts.
  • Add Saber Cats (FotSA: Machairodontinae) - for 1.21
  • Update for 1.22 once all dependencies are ready.

Wishlist (Possible but not necessarily likely):

  • Add attachment points for gear/armor.
  • Add gear/armor
  • Genelib??

Misc Info:
This mod only touches the wild Patherinae babies - to make them tameable.

Changelog

Ver 0.9.1:

- Tweak: "add" patch to "addmerge" for better mod compat.
- Fix: wild cub pantherinae not accepting food after set cooldown on foods.

Ver 0.9.0:

- Tweak: Finally unified the ai task behaviors for sanity. (Yay for decisions). They still wont be perfect for a bit, but we're a step closer to sane behaviors across pantherinae.

- Tweak: Follow lead holder as generation 0 (with rope).

Thank you for checking at least, appreciate the continuous support as this is a wonderful mod, might just be my luck to be honest since all the other pantherinae eat fine aside from the black panthers taking their time

DeadlyEssence01 , Mar 16th at 1:20 PM

SparrowOfRealms I double checked, and I only patch the baby patherinae to be able to be tamed. However I loaded up a test world and they do still eat out of troughs with Big Cats Taming enabled on my end, so not quite sure why yours have gotten so finicky! Thanks for being so thorough!

DeadlyEssence01 , Mar 15th at 4:54 PM

SparrowOfRealms I think I tested them eating out of troughs while making the mod, but I'll take a look into it again, it might be a few days though until I can get it patched if it is an issue.

SparrowOfRealms, Mar 15th at 5:00 AM (modified Mar 15th at 9:23 AM)

Does this mod affect the behaviors of wild pantherinae by chance? A full winter now and I've noticed our black panthers haven't once touched the meat in the trough from the diverse diets mod Tenth made since adding this

DeadlyEssence01 , Mar 11th at 5:17 PM

TheGrahamMan I am able to butcher wild panthers currently, however there was a bug in a previous version where (pre)tamed creatures were spawning as if they were wild. They are not going to despawn like normal either, because tamed creatures do not despawn when in the dark for 24 hours. If one of those were killed they would not have been butcherable. If you get ver 0.9.0 you will be able to butcher any of those pretamed wild pantherinae, and if the butchering bug persists on the new version, I can look into it more. Sorry for the inconvenience.

TheGrahamMan, Mar 11th at 4:40 PM

DeadlyEssence01 yeah it was for sure a wild cause I hadnt tamed any yet. so i think it mightve overwritten the wild ones somehow and conflicted with butchering.

Aaah I understand now, definitely an error on my end not to account for this since I normally have a breeding pair of tamed adults before this issue could prop up and underestimated how quickly lions could grow, thank you, the parents were in fact both untamed generation threes we'd had so makes sense

DeadlyEssence01 , Mar 11th at 3:46 PM

Ver 0.9.0 is now out, it unifies the Behavior across the pantherinae, and adds butchering compatability, fixes some bugs (and a crash, sorry) and tweaks quite a few things that were weird.

SparrowOfRealms Sorry for the ping so soon again, I did some research into this to see what was going on by breeding wolves from the wolf taming mod. For Wolves / Pantherinae if you have 2 wild parents and they sire a pup/cub that isn't tamed fully when it grows up, it will be a wild adult. If you have 2 tamed adults they sire a tamed cub that grows into a tamed/able adult (even if not fully tamed as a cub). Which I believe is the same for the wolves. If you still got a wild child from tames though, that'd be a problem. I can do some more testing later.
However, I have noticed that the feeding cooldown is not working correctly, as you should be able to feed your cubs / tameables every 3 hours (max) and that doesn't seem to be the case. This will hopefully be fixed in 0.9.1. In the meantime, I would suggest spawning in a magic bone, if you can't quite get it tamed before it grows due to the cooldown issue.

DeadlyEssence01 , Mar 11th at 11:57 AM

SparrowOfRealms Sorry about your cub Sparrow, I'll take a look into this too!

SparrowOfRealms, Mar 11th at 3:22 AM (modified Mar 11th at 3:23 AM)

Ran into a slight issue albeit maybe I should've anticipated this? There's no tamed middle point when a cub grows up, so unfortunately one of the mountain lion cubs we didn't tame in time grew up into a whole untamed adult that our other pets somehow killed, we'd fed it a few times before and most petai critters usually have an adult midpoint while you're taming them but I realize this mod doesn't

Not the most pressing thing, but thought it was worth bringing it up

DeadlyEssence01 , Mar 11th at 1:12 AM

SparrowOfRealms Sounds like you're prepared! It also seems like Sabers wont be getting any new updates for 1.21 so I'll go ahead and re-add it to the to do list.

TheGrahamMan I hope you mean for tamed / possibly even fed creatures, if it's overwriting the base patherinae I'll have some investigating to do. But, for the tames that would makes sense, since I didn't technically re-add butchering compatability. I'll see if that's something I can take care of with the release I planned for this week. Thanks for letting me know.

TheGrahamMan, Mar 10th at 11:53 PM

just wanted to let you know that it using this with butchering makes it to where you cant pick up the body to put it on a butchering hook for more pelt and meat. not sure if you knew but thought id let you know

SparrowOfRealms, Mar 6th at 5:27 PM

We already had some generation 4 sabertooths for the future machairodontinae we've been breeding and a family of panthers and mountain lions so it works out perfectly for us since so many of our animals are PetAI empowered, hope Tenth gives the all clear for the wondrous sabertooths soon enough for ya

DeadlyEssence01 , Mar 6th at 3:34 PM

SparrowOfRealms Thanks! I'm a sucker for big cats too, so I'm glad others will enjoy the mod.

SparrowOfRealms, Mar 5th at 8:36 PM

THIS IS SO AWESOME, I've been so earnestly hoping for the chance to tame the big cats and it'll be amazing when the machairodontinae come out too
