PASTEURISE! - lite
Adds simple content mod that adds simplified liquid pasteurisation mechanics!
Germs hate this one simple trick...

Lite version: only liquids, no meals but no dependencies.

The juicesTakeaway
and more

PROCESS:

Get juice/milk/honey-> heat it up -> cool it down rapidly using a lot of slush, or easier by 1block of ice.

Check gallery for very detailed instructions.

Should I dowload?:

This mod aims to deliver simple yet rewarding mechanic only.  Good for :

Players with large orchard(/s).

-Players with field(/s) of berry bushes.

-Players looking for mod that only adds one gameplay mechanic (pasteourisation) rather than 15 other diffrent cooking mechanics. (Main gennesis).

-Travelers, hermits and those who would like to have all year balanced diet (or to not be drunk from vine all the winter).

-Players, gennerally looking for pasteurisation  (As before I made this, I also looked for pasteurisation mod)

If you get me, then this mod is for you.

Features:

-All vanilla juices pasteurized!
-Interesting gameplay loop
-Pasteurised honey lasts forever
-Immersion
-handbook tutorial
-Adding usefullness to melt byproduct (ie slush, rather than bloating your inventory, usefull with some mods that add slush by products)

W I P:

Features to implement further:

-Polishing handbook for nicer look
-Cold juice mechanic, a punish for exploit ( Depends on "will it require script?")
-mod config  (potency of presevation, prices etc. Depends on "will it require script?")
-Plausibly adding alcocholic pasteurisation (under consideration if its bit too much- but that on the other side is easily doable, dw).

Planed features for final version:
-Change from variants to atributes
-Meal pasteurisation
-Spoilage matters
-Automatic 'translation' and 'recepie' making (for all extra fruits out there)
-Definetly adding spirits pasteurization
-other

Confilicts:
1. If its not culinary-> propably none.
2. Light with any mod that takes 1L of juice and boils it too.
3. If you run into one don't hesitate to report

Post scriptum:
Possibile exploit:

Spoiler!
You could heat juice just before spoiling to reset its freshshness (over and over and over and over and over again).
Punish? - 50% orginal juice-> 50% rot after perish time. (if doable without external script).

Special thanks/ main inspiration:
Simple tea- Reverhaus. This mod gave me idea how I will handle crafting process.
^and mods that helped simple tea to exist too.

Mod synthesis:

food shelves -> With their tuns it makes pasteurised juice last for almost a year (something you would see irl with tightly contained product)

Also using slush was my idea how to deal with freezer byproduct.

Metalpots -> bigger pots to pasterize in batches

AI use:
kept to minimum, I used it to quickly add each fruit variant.
Please corect me, fork this mod (if you will achive that) yet from my tries it was imposibile to implement array.

[{ "code": "pheatup-juice-FRUIT", "isFood": true, "perishableProps": { "type": "Perish", "freshHours": { "avg": 0.5 }, "transitionHours": { "avg": 0.01 }, "transitionedStack": { "type": "item", "code": "game:juiceportion-FRUIT" }, "transitionRatio": 1 }, "shape": { "base": "game:block/food/meal/liquid" }, "ingredients": [ { "code": "fruit-juice-FRUIT", "validStacks": [ { "type": "item", "code": "game:juiceportion-apple", "shapeElement": "bowl/liquid" } ], "minQuantity": 1, "maxQuantity": 1, "portionSizeLitres": 1 } ], "cooksInto": { "type": "Item", "code": "pasteurize:pasteurizedproduct-FRUIT-hot", "quantity": 100 } }]

So to not write reapeatily each fruit in 'FRUIT' I had made chat to do exsactly that.

Fell free to build up on this, if you do so- tag me in comments I will gladly use it if its better. ;)

Yes, I'm aware of that, but, well first I find the whole pasteurization process fitting more into some industrialized setting, so I find this addon to be more of a useful gameplay gimmick than a realistic immersion mod. And to that I personally think it would be beneficial to drink unpasteurized milk or beer as it saves also the "good" bacteria in it (which don't leave the living space for the "bad" bacteria instantly), and also for the taste. Plus I've heard that unpasteurized milk actually has a longer shelflife, that is if the cows are grassfed (due to PH levels of cow's blood...), but that's an offtopic. What I wanted to say...regarding the gameplay side, I think there could be a little teeny tiny downside, for example the slightly lowered nutrition.

Doggymoney
As I stated above I just found it logical that it would lose some of it's "taste" and what I call the "good" bacteria after pasteurizing so the nutrition value in game would be a little lower, but not as low as in wines for example...
But I understand what you're going for...having some way to preserve fruit prodcts for people who make bunch of it in game. So I don't wanna be nit picking :D.
Anyway thank you for taking my comment this seriously, I honestly appreciate it. I think the config with 1% is a good choice for sure.

Very nice! I'm glad there's a way to store juice long-term now!

Any clue if this works with the dev versions of Expanded Foods and A Culinary Artillery?

Good news, you can run game with both mods, bad news?
there won't be any recepies for wilderness mod avainable. Its easly patchable by creating 4 files (1 for new types of juice [to create item ID], one for descriptions, 2 crafting [one pot one barrel])

FNXR
I will touch on more crafting options, I already spotted few holes in crafting [orange 'no ice type'] so i will make alternative recepies for it too.

Feruen
No, yes.
I didn't know that things can loose nutritional value due to pasteurisation, while it is true.
I did not find a single statement that said exsactly how much is lost. Moreover the general statement is that those are negligible loses.

I will include config, but I due to lack of clear "something pasteurised loses 'x'% of nutrition" data, it will by default shove just off 1%. 1980 sat per 10L. (ofc if I will get here I will add some slider in config or something that will alow for any data to be there even 100% loss [according to one's taste or sources])

@Doggymoney i see many mods adding liquid recipes like that, like 1 1 1 1 then transform then in the same slot they are (Like pitch glue that doesn't return a cooking pot item with the content but make it in the slots).

Feruen pasteurization its usually warming (Not evaporating) liquids and food to kill bacteria and control spoilage, there's very little to no loss when doing so, so its already immersive imo.

@BentNose its might be possible to add Wildcraft support with json patch operations, its just pita because of the many different variants lol, AI might be helpful for that.

Feruen, Mar 6th at 3:36 PM

Hi! Would you consider lowering the nutrition for pasteurized liquids to add more immersion?

BentNose, Mar 6th at 3:23 PM

This looks quite interesting, sadly I'm using Wildcraft which greatly expands the selection of berries. The Wildcraft guys themselves might like this mod though, it's thematically consistent with the stuff they do.

1. Thats a great way to handle it, I will look into recpies if this will work.
2. Its doable, when I was testing I had recpie like that. I am unusre how would you workaround 'too much liquid for this pot' issue to be worth it.
Still if it won' add too much data I will add options for that.

TheDarkPlague
I was considering if player should add grain (yeast) as must to re-ferment juice. But I decided for it to be back to the same recepie to not be too tedious.
Also I will put it in config (-'longer fermentation', -'yeast recultivation') once I will learn enough to make working config.

FNXR, Mar 6th at 1:34 PM

Too bad we can't do a maria bath with water, in theory it should be cold enough to shock somewhat. (Or maybe using a bucket with juice inside a barrel with water? lol)

Alternative recipes for the cooking pot would be welcomed, to use all slots for making the heated version.

TheDarkPlague, Mar 6th at 1:31 PM

Interesting mod idea. However, given that the liquid is pasteurised, it would make more sense for the alcohol fermentation time to be longer.

Ron Paul hates this mod 😋
