VsChunkReloader is a client-side utility mod for Vintage Story that allows Players to safely reload and regenerate world chunks without resetting the entire world.

The mod is designed to help with:

  • Fixing broken or corrupted terrain

  • Regenerating areas after worldgen or mod changes

  • Cleaning up abandoned or unused regions

  • Testing world generation during mod development

  • Regenerating selected chunks after the game's world generator got updated

Chunks can be selected and reloaded on demand, making it a powerful tool for save maintenance and advanced world management.

Features

  • Reload or regenerate selected chunks

  • Two modes of chunk selection
    • Single mode
    • Box mode

Use cases

  • Repair glitched terrain

  • Regenerate areas after changing game versions

  • Reset specific parts of the world without wiping progress

  • Debug and test world generation

Notes

  • Intended primarily for client use

  • When using on a new version with world generator changed it is possible that the newly made chunks could not match the surrounding terrain (e.g. cut mountain on a flat terrain)*
  • After reloading the chunks it's recommended to remove the map from the VintagestoryData/Maps folder in order to "forget" the explored terrain (the game's API doesn't allow the mod to modify the Player's map). This way the map won't show the terrain from the old version and the new one together.
  • Make backups before chunk operations

  • Use at own risk. The creator is not responsible for any world damage

1.22.0.pre-2 note

I've created the mod primarely to move my world from 1.21.0 to 1.22.0 on release. As there will be some updates regarding world generation (like rivers), I wanted to reload the chunks around my bases.

*Due to my base being on an island I will plan to cut out the continent around it leaving the base and the ocean to hopefully bypass the issue.

Muronelkaz Yes, as you can select precisely what chunks you want to reload.

BlueSamoyed Sorry to hear it. Unfortunately I don't know how does the Terra Pretty mod work and if it's overwriting the vanilla world generation. I'm not sure I could actually make them work together.

Jadesy You can do that! Just use the box select, select the whole world and later with the "single remove" option select the chunks you don't want to reload.

I'd actually be truly interested in a mod that regenerated the entire world - except for player's claims and X chunks around the claims with some merging / graduation between the newly regenned chunks and the players' claims. This would allow us to fully upgrade a world with the new version of the game (or new worldgen mods) while allowing players to keep their bases.

Not working with terra prety installed for me, just loads empty ocean chunks. Maybe I'm doing something wrong? Not even wgen helps

So this is a more efficient/precise way to use /wgen regen?

Awesome! Thank you very much. This mod is honestly a life saver. I had an awesome location for a base but found some screwed up terrain generation. Didn't want to quit just for that.

Anon_Omis Hi, just posted the updated mod. Simply press 1-click install in the Files next to the new release ^^

Oh, and while in-game you can go into Mod Manager -> Open Mod Folder -> remove the  "vschunkloader_1.0.0.zip" -> Reload Mods (in the Mod Manager)

I found I just have to X out of the UI after closing the map

I'm pretty new to using mods. When you fix it, how do I update?

iDex_iDi , Feb 9th at 2:46 PM (modified Feb 9th at 2:48 PM)

Anon_Omis yeah, I will be trying to fix it today 😅. For now closing the minimap with F6 seems to "fix" the issue (yeah it's only a workaround for now)

Anon_Omis, Feb 9th at 2:29 PM

Will you be able to fix the UI from opening and staying open whenever the map is opened?

iDex_iDi , Feb 9th at 4:51 AM

Eguar_ka there is the un-select button but under the "remove" label

Eguar_ka, Feb 9th at 4:15 AM

Just faced with chunk generation issue and been searching for such tool, grerat mod, tnx.

You should also add "unselect" button to clear selected area (if it's possible).

Super handy mod. Thank you!

Codyman765 yes, that was the intention of the mod - to download it and make the changes locally, as it's easier to manage the backups etc. Not sure tho how the mod will behave if loaded on the server.

One tip

- After reloading the chunks remove the map from the VintagestoryData/Maps folder in order to "forget" the explored terrain (the game's API doesn't allow the mod to modify the Player's map). This way the map won't show the terrain from the old version and the new one together.

Wow this looks handy. Gonna come back to this down the road and use on my server for my friends. Will just have to copy the save and load it up in single player to use im guessing. Then paste it back for the server.
